Your attitude towards posters is really detracting from the epicness of your accomplishment. You don't need to jump down everyone's throats. =/

I thought it was a great video, by the way. I'm playing a rogue now and I'm glad to see it can be as awesome as I felt my mage and warriors were!

1. My attitude, such as it is, is my personal flaw, totally unrelated to the "epicness" of this "accomplishment".

2. I'm usually a well-mannered person, but being called a cheater does not exactly warm my heart. Let me assure you, you would not appreciate being criticized in such a destructive fashion, too.

3. People misinterpret my motives (judging by "epicness" and "accomplishment", so do you). I don't show off, I show mechanics-related gimmicks. That's it. In other words: there is nothing epic about shields using armor value for base damage, as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for expertly proving my point.

In all honesty, my reply to you was calm, correct and non-offensive. You are ridiculously over-reacting now.

In your opinion, of course. By all means, carry on streamrolling anyone who dare posts in your thread with all the "calm", "correct" and "non-offensiveness" of a toddler having a tantrum.

Your reaction to my, essentially neutral, reply is totally out-of-proportion. I cannot even apologize, since there is nothing there to apologize for. My reply consisted of three simple factual statements/clarifications that you managed to take offense at, in some bizzare manner.

One can only hope you are not that hyper-sensitive usually.

I think it's only people who cheat that get hypersensitive. This also reminds me of the first episode of scrubs where you meet the doctor who is always sucking up to Dr Kelso

I don't recall asking you for an apology? I don't even feel like I need one. If you recall, I initally complimented you. I even "liked" your video and left a comment. My point was that to almost everyone in this thread who has asked you a question or been even remotely skeptical of your methods, you have blasted with venom. Why?

You post a show-off video, cool. We are impressed. Then people say, "hey wait - how did you do that? Is that cheating?" Several posts later, you are backpedaling, claiming you're just trying to show us a gimmicky mechanic. Anybody who doubts or questions you is scolded. I don't think you understand how forums work. You don't just post something and sit and wait to be showered in praise.

I'm not new to these forums, and I've posted a whole bunch of videos here. Whoever is following my threads is aware of the simple fact I'm much more interested in mechanics research/theoretical possibilities, than in showing off (is that even possible in DA2?). In fact, 100% of my threads are combat mechanics-related. So no, I'm not "backpedaling", it's just that you persist in your misinterpretation of my motives.

I don't really feel the urge to convert some random forumite to my faith, so, naturally, I find this whole discussion disgusting, time-consuming. and, ultimately, counter-productive.

Your hysterical reaction to a civil reply was the only thing about you that really drew my attention. Now that we are done with it, stop harassing me, please.

Who is hysterical? The person jumping down everyone's throats for using the wrong smiley faces, or the person asking why?

I see you've really got no concept of how to treat people, and when I began "harassing" you, I was running under the assumption that you did. My mistake.

Oh and just for reference...

Look,
I fully understand the issue is simple: this duel probably took half an
hour on Casual during your playthrough, so you find the video extremely
irritating to watch and really feel the urge to expose me as a
cheater. Still, it's no excuse for posting pretentious trollish BS in
this thread.

Who is hysterical again?

It's not about the gear per se it's about the timing and the manner with which you choose to disclose what pieces of information. I hope you can see the difference. I know that there are a lot of posters attacking you in this thread and I'd like to ask that you just ignore them when reading mine and not color my comments with theirs. I'm not trying to attack you or judge your methods. I think they're hugely benificial exercises. I'm just asking for full disclosure to start with instead of waiting to be asked for it and only then providing the details.

How can anyone honestly get angry at IN1, moreover call him a cheater? He's like the nicest guy on the forums (aside from him being a dirty math wizard).

Just because you can't wrap your head around it, the blame is shifted to HIM? That doesn't make any sense. This is what he DOES; stretches the game to its limits, and shares his findings. Templar with a staff? DW Rogue with an SnS setup? 200k+ crits on Orsino? I consider myself a pretty enigmatic player, and the things he does, I never would think of in a million years.

Really, I feel bad for him. He's one of the most helpful people on the forums, always has good insight into the way the game works beneath the surface, and always shares his findings with the community. He doesn't deserve this ****.

I show my gear, as well as attribute and talent points distribution, in the video. The details I provided later bear no relevance to the mechanic demonstrated.

Thanks for a spirited defense, hehe :)

The thing is, when you post an impressive video, some people, instead of trying to study it creatively and, possibly, improve on it, begin to look for some mythic cheats. You can see it in your own threads: once in a while, someone begins to accuse you of cheating, just because that particular encounter took 4 hours to beat on his Normal playthrough. That's a disgusting approach, but I'm getting used to it.

"Nah. As IN1 mentioned to me, the armor of the shield gets interpreted as damage when in the hand of a rogue. You won't be finding any daggers nearly that high in damage."

I see you've misinterpreted me. What I'm trying to say is why not use Finesse in the main hand + shield in the offhand and stack + X%physical dmg gear instead of elemental dagger in the main hand + shield and the offhand and stack +X% elemental dmg gear?

"No, the stats are totally okay. However, having both Black Fox and Etched is not too realistic, should have done it with Fallen Star and Resilience instead, but then you would have found something else, correct? ;) And anyway Lacerate is worthless as of 1.02, so no matter. "

What happened to lacerate after patch 1.02?

IN1 shares all his findings with the community, he puts his time and effort into videos and tutorials. He doesn't deserve being called "cheater" and "show off". By the way what did you expect to hear after insulting him?
Have a nice day getting killed by Arishok on casual, Mr. Stinkface - what an adequate name.

Basically. This 'I COULDN'T DO THAT, MEANING NO ONE CAN DO IT, AND ANYONE WHO CAN IS CHEATING!' attitude needs to get toned down a few notches. Most people are happy to help or provide insight if you just ask (I know I always am, IN1 has been as well), but accusing them of cheating is a pretty good way to ensure that you stay ignorant.

I don't say this to be arrogant, I say this because I'm speaking from experience; learning from others has been a large contributing factor to how well I do, the things I come up with, and my knowledge of the game.

Wish I'd stumbled across that shield use before I faced the Arishok...

..most ridiculous fight of my life. Spent ten minutes running a figure 8 and got him to within an inch of his life before he killed me...then did it all again.

..this though..this made me happy. Suck it Arishok!

I guess you can't read very well. I never once called this guy a cheater, nor did I imply it. I never tried to minimize his skill or achievement or.. anything. I said his attitude towards other posters was detracting from his accomplishment, which is still my opinion.

I don't knock anybody who does, but I don't have any reason or need to record my playing. I play on Nightmare, and I've never kept Izzy in my party so I've never had a 1v1 fight with the Arishok. I guess..me defeneding people in this thread makes me a bad player? ;)

I think I understand what you mean by the build been cheesy. Makes nightmare feel like casual (not that I've ever played on casual before....).

Anyhow, not completely relavent to this thread (though as most of the conversation as degenerated into random name-calling I don't feel so bad haha) have you considered the 'mechanics/theoretical possibilities' of injuries on blood frenzy? I posted the idea on the berserker vanguard thread but realised that you're probably the best person to ask. I can't test it at all because that character is bugged/injury-proof and it's starting to bug me because I keep imagining really large numbers.
Don't think it'll match your shield rogue though.

People on these forums are crazy, whats with the worship? The biggest thing I see wrong with all of IN1's (and those of his "faith's") replies are that they assume everyone plays on casual if they don't 100% say what they expects them to say.

Who cares if you share findings?  Who cares if its on nightmare if its a vacuum simulation that has gear outside the normal scope of play? Yay cool video of what's theoretically possible. I would wager that given sufficient time and motivation anyone could do it, but you did it and thats applaudable from a theory standpoint. The main thing that people are having an issue with is your quick "I'm a tool! I'm a jerk! Deal with it on your casual mode" responses to people who, for all you know, have a lot more technical skill than you and your "faith" put together. (At this point I'm going to stop calling it that even with sarcasm and contempt because you just might be deluded enough to let it feed your god complex). Its like not giving someone on the freeway the finger - you never know if hes a meek individual or a insane gunman. Why assume where there can be no assumption? Doesn't seem very like your dogma of theory and mechanics without assumption.

In the case of IN1 vs Backpedaling, I present:

"People misinterpret my motives (judging by "epicness" and "accomplishment", so do you). I don't show off, I show mechanics-related gimmicks"

"The thing is, when you post an impressive video"

Both quotes from IN1.

Need I go on? You and your cronies are the craziest crazy I have seen on these forums and that includes all the people who want to romance Bethany and people who uploaded the Dog Romance Mod from DA:O.

If it is then why is it sounding like a nerf from what IN said? From waht I understand before the patch the maim upgrade reduced the dmg. If it works as intended wouldn't the dmg be increased and be a good thing? Or did the patch change how lacerate triggers/takes effect making it worthless now?

Wow this was painful to read. Someone makes a post about cheesiness of shield rogue which gets (fairly) misinterpreted as a cheating accusation. OP attacks him back and calls him an idiot, then after an explanation that it was just a joke about the silly build and that the video was impressive, OP attacks him again even more harshly?? Later IN1 even goes on to agree that it's cheesy and obviously not intended? Chill out a bit, most of the people asking about gold and dual wielding shields and whatnot are just curious how you did this. I don't think anyone is actually accusing you of cheating except stranglebat up there.

On a more positive note, nice vid! I ended up taking like 10 minutes to chip away his health only to say "F this" and quit when he started busting out health potions. Where did you find the shield in this vid? Also how did lacerate change? patch notes just say it's fixed, was it dealing extra damage before or something?

So defending a person who called him "a cheater" is completely irrelevant to the fact YOU think he's a cheater. Right.

It's understandable for both sides to have misunderstood the intent of the posts. Both sides certainly could have had more tact as well. This is an instance where people just need to remind themselves of the difficulty of communicating subtext online. And don't lay blame solely on the other party, that just exacerbates things. The truth tends to lie between "you misunderstood me", and "I could have communicated more clearly". Once both sides accept that, we can move on.
