About halfway into the game I got the quest to collect 10 garnets. I had 9. I have now finished the game and not a single garnet dropped ever!

I've been to every single merchant, killed every foe, explored every nook and cranny, but guess what...

NO GARNET!

Aaaaaaaaaargh...
Is there anything I can do?? I'm a completist so simply not doing the quest is not an option! :crying:

That is one thing that has bugged me is that the shop vendors apparently don't get new stock very often if at all. I could suggest go to Aeducan Thaig and dig around and revisit the Deep Road areas. Maybe you'll find something you overlooked

This bugs me a bit. I'm certain one of the devs claimed that jewels were only good for vendor trash in this game so I sold all mine. Joke's on me I guess.

I totally forgot about pickpocketing! Are there any targets which are more likely to have a garnet?

There is a quest to collect garnets? I missed that somewhere.

Like Lethal said, pickpocket is a good way, garnets are common pickpocket 'trash'. also, the gem merchant in Orz has a few onhand Garnets are common loot drops and appear in locked chests frequently as well.

See a shrink? I really don't get why a lousy board quest would be worth it.

But seriously, if you finished the game it's actually impossible to continue, so i'm guessing you haven't. In which case there is bound to be another Garnet somewhere, you just havn't looked hard enough. Ever sold a garnet? if so visit that merchant again, he should still have it.

Otherwise, get over it :)

Gems are not ONLY vendor trash.

Without going into spoiler details, once you do the dwarven treaty quests there is another use for them as well.

keep playing, you will get lots more of the gems you need, then you can go finish that request for garnets..

Have a look in the traders trash bins, everything you sell to them ends up in there. You can buy back any items from traders that you sold them by just searching their trash. What you sell them stays in their trash forever.

The wikia has some info on which gems to keep, and which ones you can sell.

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Gems

Though to be honest you should always try to sell your loot at the same place. Merchants don't "lose" items you sell them, so if you suddenly discover "OMG I need garnets!" you can (worst case) just go back and buy them.

A good merchant to sell stuff to is Bodahn, the dwarf in your party camp. He gives you a good price too. Or even better, the Dryden brothers in Warden's Keep (though that is not always practical).

Buy them back then, the traders never 'sell' anything including what you sell them.

Before more of you say "Buy them back from the merchants", READ MY POST. I said I've travelled to every merchant in the game and bought garnets, which includes the ones I sold and the ones they had initially. I did however sell quite a few to the Lothering merchant as well as the merchant in the Village of Haven, both of which no longer exists.

Still stuck at 9... I have to hope pickpocketing brings me luck, or it will be impossible to complete this quest...

Not that you can return there, but pickpocketing knights in Ostagar gave me like 3 garnets. maybe look for a place with similar NPCs like Denerim? Not sure.

Hahaha, yeah as someone mentioned, pickpocketing is your friend!

I literally pickpocket EVERYBODY!!! I try to get everyone in combat too, but sometimes I wipe them out too fast. I hope cunning affects pickpocketing or something, because even though mine is maxed out, on Leliana, she STILL can't always pick everyone's pocket. Orange and red's often fail<_<

Cunning does have an effct on pickpocket, I hav read that 30 is you magical number for all skills using cunning, (ie you can pass every test with 30 cunning and the maxed skill) but I can't confirm that.

Picked everyone in Denerim and halfway through Orzammar, still no garnet... :(

Is it possible that there's only supposed to be 9 of them in my game state?

THERE IS NO MORE GARNETS, AAAAAAAAAAH

I just got one looting  a 'Torturer's' corpse in the Arl of Denerim's dungeon during the Rescue the Queen quest near the end, if your still looking for a piece of Garnet.

Make an Add-in that grants you some Garnets.

http://dragonagemodd...player-an-item/

IMHO, if there is a quest to find 10 garnets, it should also lead you to where they are, or at least a few are. You fight a dragon and get garnets.

There are a ton of garnets in game. I just happened to remember I sold most of mine in camp and Bodahn had exactly ten. I just bought them back and voila. If you remember what merchant you sold them to, they should still be there (unless the merchants are "gone").

I had the same problem as you. I think I only had 8 garnets though, but picked one up on the way to the final battle.>_< It is annoying.
