If you just want to have the quest finished, you can just kill the guy asking for the garnets. (Another quest you get from the boards.) After he is dead the quest shows up as finished, with the remark that a dead guy doesn´t need garnets anymore!^^

Didn't think the Dwarves were interested in Garnets though? Thought it was Malachite, Amethyst, Sapphire, and Topaz (someone mentioned Quartz, but not sure on that one).Sloth Of Doom wrote...

This bugs me a bit. I'm certain one of the devs claimed that jewels were only good for vendor trash in this game so I sold all mine. Joke's on me I guess.
Gems are not ONLY vendor trash.
Without going into spoiler details, once you do the dwarven treaty quests there is another use for them as well.

Seems garnets to drops mostly in early game. In Lothering I had 6 garnets. I my first game I sold them there, and they are not possible to buy back later because that village is destroyed by the darkspawn. After that I didn't see as many as 10 so that quest remained unfinished.
In my 2nd game I know I gotta save those gems.

I got my last from pickpocketing, try that if you're missing it.
Now if there was a way to get the last love letter added to the game...

I seem to be in the same boat. I have 9 garnet pieces and have bought all I can find in the stores. I have also pickpocketed all of the people I can in Denerim, Frostback Mountains, Orzammar, Mages Tower (and the docks), and Redcliffe. What I am doing now is continually loading from a save and pickpocketing the people in the Dalish camp.
My only problem is that I can never get items from my pickpocketing. I only seem to get money (usually in the 10 sliver range) from doing this. Every single person that I actually get something from just gives me money. No garnet pieces. I have made about 30 gold doing the pickpocketing so far, but no garnet. I have only found 2 items other than money and they were gifts (a tiara and a hair band I think).
Any suggestions?

Yeah, that's a very annoying thing... sell them in Lothering or to the armorer guy in Denerim (if you do the dragon scale quests anyway) and they are gone forever :/Mystranna Kelteel wrote...
There are a ton of garnets in game. I just happened to remember I sold most of mine in camp and Bodahn had exactly ten. I just bought them back and voila. If you remember what merchant you sold them to, they should still be there (unless the merchants are "gone").

I think you can buy back the garnets you sold to merchants unless you destroyed them. Generally I sell everything in camp only.

try this, go to denerim and then go to the brothel, then ask for the prostitutes to come out and pick pocket all of them, i got a garnet from the one on the very far right, tell me if it works, i would like to know if it was a lucky random pickpocket for me or that girl always carries a garnet

When I started as a Human Noble, I got 3 Garnets from Cousland, Howe, and Duncan, respectively. Heh.

I never had the bartender give me the quest. I did all that he offered me. What did I miss?

Did you escalate up one of the paths too quick and kill off the others prior to this?
