If (let's not get our hopes up) Dragon Age returned to the Origins story method; what type of Origin story would you like to see?Image IPB

Personally for me I'd like Origin stories that roamed across Thedas, not just limited to the games primary location (i.e. Orlais). Some Ideas that come to mind for me are:

Tevinter: Mage,Non-mage
It would be interesting to see a place in Thedas were choosing the mage origin would actually benefit your character, and to see life from someone not blessed by magic.

Anderfels: Grey-Warden, Barbarian( or local)
The Anderfels mountain area is home to the Grey Warden Headquaters, so it'd be rather fun to start the game off as a warden, or to start the game as a local (some refered to as barbarians) of the Anderfels

Circle Tower: Mage, Templar
This story is kind of like the flip side to the Tevinter Origin Idea, however you could see the mage crisis thru the eyes of a Templar, as well as a mage for further insight/justification the Kirkwall Annulment or Chantry Bombing.

Par Vollen: Sarebas, Non-Sarebas
Out of all the origin ideas this seems less likely.Image IPB To see the Qunari homeland would provide deeper insight to the qun as well as Qunari justification for the attempted conquest of Thedas. As well to see their treatment of Sarebas(Magic using Qunari). And to see Qunari response to the death of the Arishok, and retrieval of the Tome of Koslun .However it would be difficult to see this happening as most Qunari are devoid of personality, so diologue options would have been quite restricted.

Dwarf: Orzammar,Kal Sharok ,Surface Dwarf
Seeing Orzammar from the perspective of a citizen, based after your choices done in DA:O would be very fun, or to see how life is as a Surface Dwarf, or Dwarvern life in the other city.

I apoligize for the lack of Dwarvern Origin stories, but I just can't really think of any. I'd love to hear your ideas on any Origin story however. Image IPB

EDIT:
Other Origin story(s) that came to me was/were

Darkspawn: Deep Roads
To see the struggle for Darkspawn that have gained intellegence (or insanity) from their own eyes. To start the game off as a darkspawn who has been "freed" by the Architects science. Also to see how intellegent darkspawn are treated by the other inhabitants of Thedas, and perhaps their struggle to gain Rights as people of Thedas. And for some unknown reason I imagine the only people would willingly trade with them are the Qunari, consideing their views on race and the Qun. However I can see this working as a companion.

Haha, no problem! :)

And personally, I would love to see a Qunari origin for DA3.

 For Elves:
A Dalish and a City Elf Origin, but with a twist: they both start out in the same area. The Dalish elf has been tasked to deliver or procure something to/from the Alienage leader. All hell breaks loose, and the Dalish Elf, who came with several other clan members, is the last one standing. The City Elf would be someone wandering around when all hell breaks loose and has to join up with (first recruitable companion here). Dalish Elf is rescued by (recruitable companion) and you're off on your quest.

Mage: One generic human/elf mage, from the Circle Tower in Ferelden, who is now living under the protection of the king/queen of Ferelden. They're considering joining up with the royal army when, predictably, all hell breaks loose. The king/queen entrusts them with a vital message that must be sent to (where ever) as soon as possible, and leads the mage out of danger.

For other: A Chasind/Avvar/Alamrari mage who sets off after being told by a shaman that they must go off on Epic Quest To Save Our People And Preserve Our Way Of Life.

Templar: A survivor of a fallen circle, troubled over the side they took (so the opportunity to play a templar who values mage lives can exist), looking for succor and perhaps a chance at redemption/to continue whatever role they played, meets a Mysterious Stranger who instructs that salvation can be found at Conveniently Placed Location.

Dwarf:
Surface dwarf: A young man/woman who accompanied House Tethras to the surface (or from one of the families who did) but has lost connection to them, looking for purpose in life and living as a respected sellsword in the meantime. Surface dwarf saves a damsel in distress, who asks them to accompany her to the same Convenient Location that the templar would be heading to.

Dwarf commoner: Forever in the shadow of their much more successful older brother (lol Carver complex), the dwarf, who acts as a guard/whipping boy for said sibling decided to wander over to the tavern for some booze and sees an advertisement for a surface expedition to retrieve dwarven crap, fine dwarven crap. Intrigued, they take up the offer and head off for an adventure.

Bann's child: Cousland 2.0, now with less chance of marrying the King/Queen but more epic skills. Unlikely to inherit any real power or money, they decide to carve their own place into history, and head towards Denerim to offer their services to the king/queen. They are attacked on the way, and chase their attackers back to A Convienent Location.

I would love playing a non-mage in Tevinter. That sounds intriguing.

Tevinter character sounds good. Anderfel citizen would be interesting, likely not a grey warden though. I don't think that we'll be playing one for a long time. I'm down for Qunari character, but since that might divulge more info on the qunari than the devs want to give up, maybe a Rivani character?

Nevara is also supposed to be a trippy place, so I'll be down with being a dragon-hunter.

I like it, especially the idea of getting a permanent companion from your origin story, I think it'd make the story a more emotional journey to have a companion who was with you since the beginning. I.E. how I was with Alistair because we had both been thru Ostagar together, and were both Wardens

Since the story seems to be set in Orlais, I was thinking that all these origins might be from outside Orlais, and you would hook up with (recruitable companion) sometime during their specific origin. The Dalish or City Elf might get them earlier than anyone else, though.

(I might be biased by the fact that I will raise holy hell if I have to have an Orlesian accent T_T)

I am going to set up my ideas per class to keep them simple, also since most likely DA3 will involve some world changing events, it might fit for the origins to feature geographically varied places so we get a glimpse of the world before the big sandcastle kicking!

Mage: Tevinter apprentice to a powerfull Magister/Archon, lots of opportunity to betray/support your master, dabble in blood magic or whathave you

Warrior: Weisshaupt Fortress/Anderfels Grey Warden, I want to see the First Warden! I was always intrigued by Duncan words that the First Warden is more interested in power plays than in fighting Darkspawn, lots of opportunity to exploit.

Rogue: Either an Antivan who runs afoul with the crows or an Orlesian bard being involved in some imperial court intrigue

Note that all of those origins would work with any race except Qunari (Tevinter will take elfs as aprentices so long as they are promising as it seems from the final Fenris quest)

I was thinking the same thing when Duncan mentioned him, and for some reason I imagined the First Warden having a really epic beardImage IPB

While I like the OP's idea, I think a more likely (unlikely as it is regardless for Qunari at all) origin story would be "Qunari" Origin, and "Tal Vashoth" Origin.

I'd like to play a Dalish mage. Before the only mage option was to be a circle mage. A fog warrior would be interesting if we're picking from the northern places we haven't been. Their description from Fenris sounded interesting.

Ah The Tal Vashoth I forgot about them, that would be a more likely Origin considering the aren't dictated by the Qun. But do you think it's possible for the Tal Vashoth Origin to inlcude Sarebas(Mage) character.

Fog Warriors sound interesting. I'd expect an Orlesian noble storyline, I guess. I'd really like another Alienage Elf, wherever its from, and I'd hate to lose the Dalish. For Dwarves, isn't there another city? Kal Sharok? Something like that? I do hope they fix the apey-arms issue with dwarves, though, and I'd like to be a slightly meatier elf!

Assuming setting is Tevinter, for some obvious reasons.

NOTE: All origins eventually lead to you starting out as a Tevinter slave

Human: Start as a servant in Tevinter already. A magister offers to hire you for an experiment, and sends you on some missions and things. At the end, he attempts to do a blood mage sacrifice with you. You kill him, and instead of getting executed, you get sold to another Magister, who likes your spunk.

Elf: Works as an Antivan assassin, sent on a mission from your superior. You mess that mission up, and your boss sends you on another mission, one that is a ruse to sell you into slave trade. Off to Tevinter, where you are bought by a magister who likes your spunk.

Dwarf: Merchant traveling along the world with his brother, selling goods and such. You end up making a deal without your brother present, which ends up falling through and pissing off a magister and messing up his schedule. As a repayment, your brother betrays you and sells you to the magister, who likes your spunk.

Qunari: You are a lowly Sten who fights alongside your regiment, when someone frames you for doing something you didn't do. The Qun demands you die, but there is an ambush from Xenophobic Fex. You are the lone survivor, and you wander until you collapse. You awake to an elderly couple thinking of what to do with you. They decide to sell you to a magister who heard your story, and who likes your spunk.

Mage (Elf/Human): You are a powerful magister in Tevinter, who heard about an expedition to find some rare goods. It ends up to be a revolution from your slaves, who leave you for dead. A magister comes and takes you and uses you as a slave because the magister  likes your spunk.

Mage (Qunari): You are a Saarebas who has lived as a puppet your entire life. Your control rod starts to misfunction due to overexposure to Lyrium. It is deemed you cannot be fixed. You are scheduled for an execution, when a convert to the Qun (elf) helps you escape, with or without your help. He promises to help you find another clan (if that is what you wish) but ends up selling you to a magister, who likes your spunk.

The Child of Morrigan and Warden/Alistair: only available if you import a save where the event occurred. Begins game with extra talent point and a specialization that allows for special speech responses and give magical abilities to warriors and rogues.

He killed the group he was with, but I got the impression that there was a much larger number overall. You can ask him why he didn't just find more fog warriors when he ran away and he'll reply that he didn't feel worthy, not that they were all dead. So, I assume he thought there were more.

Something involving the Chasind would be nice. I'm actually disappointed that so little was done with them. I realize they probably suffered heavy losses by sending troops to Ostagar, but when I replay both Ostagar and Lothering, where there are several Chasind hanging around, it feels like they're supposed to play a part and then... vanish, and, of course, are far far away from Kirkwall. So I'd like to get the chance to start with them.

Magister really likes spunk. xD. I like these Origins a lot, especially the Saarebas one. I'd also like a Tal'Vashoth origin.  The non-mage Qunari one would not work for a female, seeing as they don't fight.

I Think I'd have saved the Tal Vashoth Origin for my Third, maybe second playthrough, because that would have seemed to be the most dynamic
