No matter what you are still Hawke,

No I'm not. I am Cassandra and my task is to find out about Hawke.

If I'm Hawke then how come I don't know about my own past? How come I don't even know if I'm dead or alive. You are not making sense of yourself if you role-played Hawke.

never thought like that before but now that you mentioned it - that rly make sense

Hey yeah. OR, you're Varric telling/reading the story of Hawke who tries to find himself in the city of Kirkwall, to Cassandra who's trying to fidn out about Hawhe? Posted Image

Yes. That could also be possible.

Provided that Varric is lying about Hawke race.

My Wardens knew from the beginning on what the ultimate goal was. How she (they) got there was full of choices and consequences

Hawke, on the other hand, is utterly clueless (while I, the player was not, sadly) has little to no impact on the developing 'story', and is not the central figure. Thank goodness she's not MY Hawke. I'd be upset

You all do realize that Varric is actually Hawke right?

The truth is:
Bianca is not a crossbow but Varric/Hawke's (Var-awke) lover (That is why Var-awke is NOT carrying it while being interrogated) and Meredith is his lover too.

Meredith hated mages and wanted to kill them all because Var-awke tried to run away with Bianca. Meredit is MAD not mad and there is no lyrium idol - tis actually a gift from Var-awke.

The Chantry is actually where all the phylactery are being stored and Var-awke blew the Chantry up to cover his tracks - and he blame Anders for it. We all know Anders is not gay from Awakening - so he is lying!

Kirkwall is totally destroyed in the end and Var-awke is spreading tall tales about this "Champion" to Thades so that nobody will ever find out about the truth.

If that was the actual ending cinematic it would sure as hell beat the original craptastic DA 2 ending.

Yes.
Or something completely different.
And this fact, that ANYTHING might be the truth, was on my worry-scale very early. Yet another reason why the frame-narrative approach totally sucks. Aside from the broken immersion and fragmention.
This is just a MOVIE, folks. You get the notion that you did the combat scenes, that's all. But of course, you didn't do them either, because it was all already done, or not, since this is just a tale which is guaranteed to not be completely true (no tale is), and could well be a complete lie all the way.

Just a movie. Which brings us back to the OP's topic. Whether DA2 and FF are RPGs or not, just depend on how you define RPG. Wether there are "choices" or not in DA2 depends on how you define "choices", and to what degree you can contrieve perceptions and contort semantics, as ishmaeltheforsaken has shown us in a number of pointless posts.
The reality of things remain the same: You don't make any real choices in DA2. You really don't. I've gone back and examined game events. There are no forks. And if you don't do a quest, the things you're supposed to do gets done anyway, automatically. That's the lowdown of DA2. Just a movie and combat. And while Bioware have always courted dangerously close to that "ideal", ever since abandoning BG, DA2 still stands out in stark contrast against older games (except maybe ME2).

And this is NOT a type of game we, (many of us) want. I don't buy and play this type of games. I only did DA2 because I got fooled. I assumed Dragon Age meant something about what kind of game it was. They promised us Baldur's Gate's spiritual successor. And while they never really quite delivered on that, DA:O was at least close enough for me to keep my mouth shut and buy the games and dlc.

FFXIII does have one thing in common with DA2. It's combat system is too fast, it takes a good deal of speed to be able to match your skills and still get 5 stars. However, FFXIII also has a "normal" mode that is a good deal slower, but you probably won't get much beyond a 3 star average using that. Another issue is the AI is so good at selecting skills, you don't need to do much beyond press X a lot of time.

Basic design though. FFXIII is not that different to any number of FF's that have come before.

Like/Dislike of FFXIII is also a matter of taste, there are no real issues with the game like DA2 has. I'm on the dislike side, but still looking forward to FFXIII-2.

Having ripped off FFXII for Origins combat system , the hypocrisy of Bioware is staggering.

Both games were incredibly mediocre and were incredibly boring to play, with no real pay-off at the end.

Hmm, this could be quite helpful, if you all think about it, this thread in a way will encourage other game designers to expand on all of this.
If I ever am able to make my game, it will have hundreds of thousands of choices, both for the beginning an the end - i do agree that the way players are quite literally forced to play out a predestined role all the way to the end is something that needs to be changed dramatically.

But yes, it does primarily depend on what YOU (the player) percieve an RPG to actually be, and yes there are limits - but please, if you are going to complain about how crappy a game is based solely on what you think it SHOULD be, then why don't you make a better game?
C'mon! Games are meant be enjoyed, and what you pay for is what you get - do research before buying a game so that you won't whine about how you wasted your precious time on a game you thought was rotten.
Are the companies forcing you to buy their games? Are they putting a gun to your head? No. Quit complaining about it an look in the mirror, cause who you see in the reflection is the REAL blame.

If you honestly believe you can do better, then please prove it!
All games have limits to what you can & cannot do, WELCOME TO THE REALITY OF GAMES!
If you're that sick of games with limits, then why don't you go play D&D? Choices in D&D are endless, you'll love it. Its either that or go make your own game.

such excuses are ridiculous
Are you rly trying to tell me it was my dault when i buyed game not developer fault providing crap in the first place
Is this new concept of world we are living now - full of traps - and u blame those who got themself catch into one ?

For the love of God, Daniel Erickson is not the guy responsible for DA:2, Mike Laidlaw is. Stop viewing Bioware as a single entity anymore. It is a bunch of separate studios making different games each.

Daniel Erickson who works at Bioware Austin (a completely different studio from the one making Dragon Age and Mass Effect) is making SWTOR.

I am also disappointed in DA2, but the blame should be laid squarely at Mike and friends, not a guy from a different studio making a different game.

And Daniel is a pretty cool guy who has a good idea of making games. I have great hopes with SWTOR.
