Thing is, even if nothing of this happened ... does anyone really think the other Circles wouldn't have risen up? I mean they just waited for an excuse. Or how is it to explain that Kirkwall is the trigger for a world wide rebellion? I don't even see how Kirkwall represents most of the Circles in Thedas.

You pretty much answered your own question... the Circles were merely "waiting for an excuse," and they got one. Kirkwall probably isnt even that important in the grand scheme of things, but it was the spark that lead the world to fall to pieces, and Cassandra was simply there to find out the truth about what started it all.

It really shows how inportent Anders is <as I see it>:

The outside mage group sister Nightingale talked about planned to use a successful mage rebellion in Kirkwall to trigger a world wide rebellion. The Chantry however was prepared to crush it  and send their own message - Meredith had more power at her disposal than any normal Knight-Commander <like the Viscount position for all practical purposes>

Anders messed up the Divines plans when he blew up the Chantry and Meredith used the Right of Annulment on the circle even though they had nothing to do with it. That's the word that got out - that the Templars will kill all in a Circle on the slightest excuse - a better message than the outside mage group could have dreamed of.

Anders couldn't even find his shoes without Hawke's help.

Finding of the Idol was really the more important Catalyst for events. Before Meredith got her hands on it, she was actually against things like the 'Tranquil Solution' proposed by Ser Alrik. What happened to Karl was all because of him, not her. (If you managed to loot the note before getting kicked out of the chantry)

This of course means the most important character is...Bertrand. Who would never even had made it there if it weren't for Hawke. Who never would have been involved if not for Varric. So lets go with Varric being the most important. Yeah thats it.

Anders still would have blown up the Chantry if Hawke never arrived. Kirkwall still would have been crawling with blood mages and abominations. Meredith would still be paranoid, strict, and drive the Circle mages to use forbidden magics and attempt to escape.

I agree. Varric is smart enough to have gotten the money to fund the expedition from somewhere else, Anders in Justice mode was enough to take on a templar spy and a small group of Wardens in the short story so I doubt it would have been any different against the people responsible for giving a lobotomy to his first love, and in the end the Chantry would have been destroyed.

that the whole uprising of the mages was caused by Hawke's seemingly insignificant arrival in Kirkwall?

Its Amazing!!

You mean Awesome.  Image IPB

That said, even if the maps Anders had were needed, Varric's the one who knew about Anders having them.  He could have gotten them himself, without Hawke.  Hire a few more people, or take a different partner, expedition still happens.  Side passage still gets cleared, idol still gets found.

Anders gets Varric to help him with Karl, or someone else, or goes alone.  Can easily survive.  So, he's still around to blow up the Chantry.

Only difference I can see is, if Hawke didn't show up, Hawke wouldn't have gotten to see all the awesome things which happened in DA2.

It is likely that they would have been stumped when you search for a side entrance and forced to go back before finding the Thaig.

Why?  There was no special knowledge on Hawkes part used there . . . it was a side entrance, it was found, all they needed was someone to explore it.  Anyone could have done that.

Anyone that is good enough at fighting to go through half a horde of darkspawn, yes.

Why did Ferelden need the Warden? Any warden could have done the same thing, no special knowledge on the warden's side used there.

You're absolutely right.  Any warden could have done the same, although A warden was needed.

Here, any body could have done the same, no special skills required.

Anders would be more likely caught and tranquilized/killed long before he even manage to make an attempt to blow the chantry. And Meridith wouldn't go so bat*** crazy without the idol that Varric and Hawke so kindly handed over to Barthrand who later sold it to her.

inb4 anyone claims Bartrand would have found the Idol regardless. Without Hawke, they'd likely have never secured Anders' maps and may not have entered the Deep Roads through the entrance they did...Hawke also cleared the particular path that led to the Idol. It's a confluence of events that may never have happened without Hawke's participation.

They didn't need Hawke to get the maps. Seriously it didn't take a lot of convincing. It was "Can I have those maps?"

"Sure."
