I know alot of people disliked the deeproads/fade in DA:O, and I respect that. I do feel, though, that in DA2, Bioware dumbed down the deep roads/fade too much, just because of all the criticism, when alot of people actually liked it in DA:O.

The people who disliked were just much more "louder" when DA:O came out, and thought their opinion was fact. Now, in DA2, everything has been dumbed down. In the deep roads of DA2, there is no sense of "Am I going to make it out alive? I'm going deeper and deeper into the unknown...". Just when it was getting interesting in the deep roads of DA2, it ended! And we had to go back to bland, desolate Kirkwall.

The same with the Fade of DA2, just when I thought it was just getting great, and immersive, it ended. So much potential for more exploration of the dream world, and the lore underneath Kirkwall wasted. I also found out later that the map for the Fade is just another re-used one for the templar homebase. :pinched: I guess I was the only one who liked the grinds in DA:O, and all the rest of you forumites like short grinds.

orzammar was my least favorite place, but the deep roads came close to my most. i actually liked it because after some time it really felt like i was deep down, deep in enemy territory. when i encountered the boodmother i could really see why noone knew of those before, because no one had been as deep into blight territory as me before.
and you can't get that feeling after 4minutes in "area no. 3" (wich is also "area no. 7,6,9,10,16,21,29..."

p.s. a braceleft without it's counterpart wil make you feel like something is missing for the rest of the day

For grinding I recommend MMORPGs - especially the Korean ones. Ah yes, 50,000 more mobs TNL (to next level)!

Actually I didn't think the fade (if it refers to the sloth demon) was such a grind, I really liked it.

But I certainly don't miss the grind part of the DR! Unfortunately DA2 in itself is quite a grindfest. Although I alleviated that a bit be removing level scaling from areadata. At least now there you will be killed when entering the Bone Pit at lvl 5 and the thugs in the streets won't be a match for someone who won a certain duel.

As for the DR in DA2... yeah, they could have been a bit longer, but I think they got it about right. If anything I would have liked an option to sacrifice Varric and use his blood to contol his brother to let me out. Dont't know whether that'd be in line with DA lore.

Maybe I read about moria too young but that is what I kept thinking of while I crept through the deep roads, and the payoff at the end was as good or better than the balrog in my mind but that being said I do think it could have been improved by making it a real slog.

Have a camp set amidst the ruins not the normal outside one, have limited rations and few places to resupply them and force the party to run from some foes such as the archdemon marshalling its troops at bownammar etc.

There's that term "dumbed down" again that has no relevance to DA2 whatsoever!

"Loud" like those who say that DA II is a **** and similar?
I had enough "grind" with those waves and those bloated HP pools for the bosses. That said, some parts would have been nicer with some more "lenght" because I certainly had no problems with the grinding in DAO.

No. 'Grind' has never been a word I associate with fun.

Um and you do know why the Fade segment looked like the Gallows right? Hint: its the same reason Orsinio shows up in it.

Ok, I liked the pacing and length of DA2 more than DAO, I did not like grind fests. But it is still possible to create atmosphere and the feeling of dread/wonder etc. with concise levels. You have to design each area individually, do not reuse areas. DA2 did not do that properly. Also, DA2 devs obviously worried about losing too much of the grind, which is why they added all those annoying waves to pad the length of each dungeon. They should not have done that. They should have stuck to their better pacing, but made each combat encounter fun and made areas unique.

I enjoyed those sections of DA:O, especially the Deep Roads although I don't think there even was an enviroment large enough in DA2 to support that kind of gameplay, not that it matters since the constant waves of enemies in DA2 makes the entire game feel like a grind at points.

I loved the deep roads of DAO. Wish DA2 had more quests in the deep roads

You don't know the meaning of the word till you have played Grandia X. Only allowed to save in towns. Compared to the likes of Phantasy Star and Grandia. The Deep Roads is kiddie stuff.

No, I hated the long grinds in DA:O, though I love the game.
The entire game of DA2 was like a really long grind for me.

You are not the only one. When I played DA:O for the first time it was summer and I went into the Deep Roads on a particular hot day. I was sweating like a pig and when i finally went back to Orzammar I really was exhausted. I have never had such a physical experience while playing a video game. Truly unique and I still love doing that part of the game in one big sitting.
But i don't like your excessive use of "dumped down" - it is just different.

It's just another word for Laidlaws streamlining.

Yes. Totally.

My favorite part of the game was making my way through the Deep Roads, a thaig full of darkspawn, and then the giant spider fight that took forever to beat. And after all that, Oghren says, "I'm sorry, your Branka is in another castle thaig!"

They didn't even give me a cool reward for beating the spider queen. I loved it.

Hell NO!!!

One of the reasons why 80% of my DAO characters go into limbo before/after Ostagar are those ridiculously long and tedious padding dungeons. The Deep Roads being the main offender ("Skip the Fade" eliminated another major contender). I also loathed Andraste's bloody temple.

This right here. This is some masterful sarcasm.

And I agree with the whole thing.

Try Disgaea 3 then, max lvl 9999.
