It was designed to be a game, as such it is as close to being a boat as it is a book.

Oh, yes. I can talk all Qunari like.

Oh. I think it's closer to boat. I mean, boat does have an 'a' in there.

It is neither.

Why do your games wish to be boats? It can never be a boat. It will always be a game turned boat. This will only lead to frustration.

Probably yes. Unlike in DAO, in DA2 core story is always same. Which is, well, suitable for a book.

Yes, because in DAO, the core story can either be: become a Warden, stop the Blight and slay the Archdemon or...become a Warden, stop the Blight, and slay the Archdemon?

Wouldn't it need to be a "choose your own adventure" book? XD

You found different endings? :P
Yes, it would not have alienated so much of the orginal fanbase if it was a book, or a short film/animated series...

Just because the rebellion occurs either way doesn't mean the endings aren't different in relation to your character. The blight ended either way at the end of Origins. I think people need to accept that the endings have to lead in the same general direction because they're going to have to make a sequel out of this. It's not reasonable to expect them to make two (or more) completely different games depending on who you supported during the war.

Yes, the blight is always ended. However, HOW it was ended is entirely up to you. DA2 offers no involvement with you aside from a few SIDE quests. Hawke doesn't affect the outcome, because no matter what: Anders goes terrorist, Meredith goes fully off the deep end, Orsino goes "WTF You need a boss battle", and the end result is ALWAYS the Templars AND the Circles severing ties with the Chantry. The thing people, myself included, found lackluster is the fact that no matter what you do, IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE SAME. Even in ending the blight you had multiple options! Do you die? Do you send Alistair to die? Do you send Logain to die? Do you have that magical one-night-stand with Morrigan to save your life but unleash a DemonGodBaby upon the world? Do you force Alistair to do that? Do you force Logain to do that?
There are so many choices even in the ending of Origins that to say "you always have to face the blight, quit ****ing that the ending to DA2 is immutable" is a fallacy because there is absolutely NO change to the ending of DA2 no matter what you do. The people who romanced Anders probably feel it worse, for having a relationship for SIX years at the earliest... Why is it that their Hawke is too stupid to notice that Anders is doing something very suspicious, and why can't ANYONE prevent it? (Or at least attempt to...) The most a player can do is metagame and not do the Justice quest... but, and THIS is why DA2 would have been better in book or film form, nothing changes and all the events play out the same.
This lack of freedom to shape TheDAS (which is bitterly ironic since Hawke is supposed to be THE most influencial character in TheDAS, yet s/he influences nothing except who s/he sleeps with...) is what is bemoaned about in DA2. In Origins, there was an abundance of world shaping choices... Which had repercussions. In DA2 ther is a severe disconnect between a player's actions and the events of the world... It's basically like watching an interactive movie.
