You know, if someone told me that a nuclear bomb was going to wipe out my hometown, -sure-, I'm going to feel sympathy for the enormous loss of life, resources, and homes, but my first thought is going to be about my FAMILY. I don't see how that's being "an inconsiderate (filtersubversion)hole".

Wrong. The Reapers destroy all organic life in the Galaxy. Will humans be assimilated by the Reapers? Thats likely part of their plan, but they will kill everything that gets in their way, that isn't indoctrinated into a husk.

Harbinger says their core philosophy:

"Take what's useful, destroy the rest."

Soverign clearly stated that the Reapers goal is mass extinction of all advanced organic life. They temporarily indoctrinate some races, but they are all despensible.

Yeah vigil said so too he said after the indoctrinated fullfilled their usefulness they were left to starve to death as mindless shells sense they were so far gone even figuring out they were hungry must've been a challenge and then if they did discover that they couldn't figure out how to get food.

Vigil gave a few examples too of how the indoctrinated were used for instance indoctrinated people took in refugees fleeing from where ever and from there either gave them to the reapers or killed them I suppose the reapers told them who was priority and who wasn't.

So using vigils example as a starting point I came up with this theory on the Asari being one of those "helpful" indoctrinated individuals: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/6880106

Face the facts: The Reapers attack earth because they see Human's as being their biggest threat. Commander Sheperd and crew are probably the only "sapient" organic species to ever KILL a Reaper, so Human's will be the Reapers first target. Writings on the walls.

We weren't the only or the first to kill a Reaper. The IFF retreival mission, someone had to have killed that one. And if we are the first target, the Reapers are idiots.

I don't think the cycle has ever been this bad for the Reapers, their usual tricks are gone, and if they were so intelligent they wouldn't have made any mistakes or taken any losses, with that said maybe its about revenge?

No, they don't.  If they did that, there'd be no cycle.  They kill all technologically advanced organic life, and mostly those species which are relay-aware.  The exact criteria they use aren't clear, but basically if you and your conspecifics are just a bunch of hunter-gatherers, you're gonna be just fine.  Just ask humanity.

There is nothing wrong with Shepard thinking of humanity first .... It makes me think of Mordin who right before the SM reached out to his nephew. He had to place a "face" to his motivation because the term "galaxy" really means nothing if there is not a personal connection.

If I was going into battle I would need to "humanize" my cause where Mordin had to "Salarianize" his. When Mordin told me of his action I did not think he hated other species, I understood his need to make it important on a very personal level.

Harbinger: "Shepard... So we meet again...."
Shepard: "I'll defeat you somehow, I'll break the cycle and protect humanity from your evil touch!"
Harbing: "Shepard... You poor naive thing. Your mind is seemingly to unwilling to see the truth. The cycle will continue as it always has, and humans will help us when we have finished what we started with them at the end of the last cycle."
Shepard: "LAST cycle??? What the hell are you talking about?"
Harbinger: "Shepard, Who do you think pulled the strings of the Protheans conducting experiments on humans from Mars? We created your race to suit our needs for re-utilization in this cycle."
Harbing: "Shepard... In a sense... I am your father...."
Shepard: "NNnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooo.........."

Don't forget - and I don't know if anyone else brought this up - but on the Collector Cruiser, when Shepard and squad are looking at the giant main hold full of pods someone comments that "you could hold every human colonist in here with room to spare" and the second squad-member says "They're [Collectors] going to target Earth". That's even if your squad consists of one human and two aliens - Earth is a very plausible next target, be it from Collectors or Reapers.

HE IS HUMAN, don't you think he'd want to save his planet of origin?
I wonder who is the most inconsiderate ***hole the one who puts his own race and planet first or the one who is more keen on saving some other race and their homeworld.
And ofc he is conserned about the entire galaxy but Earth is the first thing that springs to his mind.
Again "nitpicking".
