While I can't agree with the language used by the OP, I do agree with the Opinion.

*shakes head* I always get tired of people saying "I paid good money" blah blah blah. All that swearing and raging just makes you look like an idiot and puts anyone off helping you. There seems to be this notion with some people that when you buy something the people who made it are your servants and shall follow your demands and take your abusive language. It's not the case.

Carry on typing angry messeges it might help one day XD

When you pay for a product you expect to be able to use it.

Venting may not get the game fixed, but it might make you feel better, in which case things actually *have* improved. If EA don't fix the issue then they certainly can't complain about being vented at, so vent on, I say. class action suits have been started for less. Right now it is perfectly possible to buy the game on EA's download service but totally impossible to play the game you bought. A god lawyer could make that seem like fraud. Personally, I'd rather they fixed it because the game rocks when it works.

It is frustrating that we have been deprived access to what is essentially a single-player product due to a failure in an online component. Bear the following in mind:

1. Accidents happen. This wasn't intentional and I am sure that someone is working on fixing the issue.

2. There was an attempt to address this issue about a year ago. Clearly they did not/were not able to implement a change.

3. This is not some sort of draconian DRM but rather a consequence of poor planning when they designed the DLC implementation for Dragon Age: Origins, This method of providing DLC was not implemented in Dragon Age 2 so clearly they are learning from that mistake.

4. This particular server outage is affecting more people than it normally would due to the recent release of the Ultimate Edition.

5. Now that Dragon Age 2 is out the life cycle for Origins is over. It is not reasonable to expect them to put any further resources into fixing this problem.

6. Getting those servers working correctly should be a priority for EA, but really the entire active user base is just a drop in the bucket. I am sure it's a priority for someone in EA's IT group, but EA as a whole isn't even going to notice this.

7. Failure to acknowledge the problem, or inform their first response support staff that there even is a problem is extremely bad customer service on EA's part. They have failed miserably in keeping their customers informed. Sadly that's par for the course with EA.

8. Other than expressing our unhappiness and frustration at the situation there is very little we can do about it.

9. Once this is resolved and all of your DLC is again authorized, follow the excellent advice on these forums to make a backup of the Profile.dap file for use offline the next time this happens.

I agree with every point except for number 5. I think that is IS reasonable to expect Bioware or EA to take steps to fix this problem. If Dragon Age: Origins and it's expansions and DLC are EOLed, then steps should be taken to assure that the game can still be played in it's entirety, even if they actively choose to shutdown the authorization servers.

For that to happen, patches will have to be released to remove the online authorization component of DA:O's DLC; this is what SHOULD happen now that DAII is out and focus has shifted.

Just my opinion, naturally.

Oh they're quick to link you to that. Unfortunately it doesn't resolve the problem, it merely disables those DLC items so you can play and load savegames without them. It's a workaround for some folks who don't care about the DLC and just want to play.

If you load a savegame that is using some of that DLC content, DLC items will be missing and DLC zones will not be accessible.

I found a workaround for this. It's an issue with the DAO AND Da2 server as all my DLC on both games wont work. Here is what I did:

run the game
LOG OUT (not exit the game), but log out of the DA servers in either game
EXIT the game
re run the game
DO NOT LOG IN

This will run the game in OFFLINE mode. Since your DLC was originally authorized when you installed it, it "should" work

This trick let me run DAOA and DA2 despite their server issues

I suppose u could just shut off your router, dsl, or cable modem before you start the game to do the same as the above ;)

Remember they must allow for people to run in offline mode! So if their servers are BORKED.. then kill your internet connection before u launch the game.. or log out and reboot the game for offline mode... this work perfectly for me just now for DAOA and DA2

I've tried every fix too, none worked, so now I'll try the offline mode. Honestly, if BioWare/EA are going to keep putting DAO Ultimate Ed on store shelves, they need to fix this problem not just ignore it in favour of DA2

And please BioWare, don't make SWTOR run an authorisation system as hopeless as this one. It ruins the whole experience.

Da2 seems to have had far less DLC issues vs DAO.. and I don't see how any MMOs would have "dlc"

I haven't seen an mmo yet run DLC in a fashion that DA/ME does.

Read the agreements you sign, they have to do squat. It would be good for them keeping customers, but they have to do nothing. :P

You are aware that if you authorized in past, you might get lucky with the log-off, restart and play without logging in, right? Basicly if the game authorized them at some point it might 'revert' to that, thinking you havent got internet connection. Its a worth a shot, but if that fails... Well, you gotta give 'em engineers weekend's rest. If it aint up tuesday evening Im'a gonna start thinking how to get refund.

I totally agree with you.

We deserve this when we decide to buy a legal copy.

If we just BT the game and do some crack, we will be playiing the game happily, not staring at this forum waiting EA fix their server.
