It's a game about a character from a book. The character is set in stone, and has been around quite a bit (In more than one way, too). The game would not make anywhere near as much sense if it was not Geralt we were playing as. The books, TV show and movie all centered around Geralt - So why wouldn't the bloody game?!

How does one "witch"?
I assume "witch" is a verb in order for one to be a witchER.
It's a translational thing. I believe the actual term Sapkowski used is 'Hexer', but in English a 'Hexer' would be more akin to a witch or wizard. CDProjekt went with The Witcher, and I guess it's partially to avoid any confusion in the English speaking world - The first Witcher title (The Last Wish) came out in English in 2007 (2008 in the US; It also refers to Geralt as a Witcher), so it likely would have been chosen as the profession name in the English translations for the reason I just mentioned - It's simply to avoid any confusion or misinterpretation.

Good luck with that, I'm no fan, never been a fan of any franchise, I find it too limiting, but I believe the Witcher 2 will knock the socks off anything presently out, what am I saying!, it's not like it's got a lot of competition.KenKenpachi wrote...

Only two similar titles that come to mind are Obsidian's Dungeon Siege 3 and inXile's Hunted: The Demon's Forge - So two titles from two studios that formed from Black Isle (Oh, how the mighty have fallen), but there's not much else.DJBare wrote...

After playing for several hours, it grew on me and I really enjoyed the game.
My favorite part is when you have to get completely plastered drinking with Dandelion and Zoltan and then choose whether you want them to drop you off at Shani's house or Triss's.
IIRC in either case you arrive home still drunk and get your ass handed to you in a terrible scolding by whichever girl it is, barely able to make out what is happening because your vision is still so blurry from drinking.

One can only hope Obsidian has polished their game after Fallout:NV, as for the other, co-ops rarely make the mark when it comes to RPG, don't get me wrong, I still play Fallout:NV, but it's got to be the buggiest game I've ever played.OnlyShallow89 wrote...

It's, realistically, no buggier than FO3 was. FO3 was technically unstable but had fewer visual bugs, and the opposite goes for FO:NV - More stable technically, greater visual bugs (In both scale and frequency). And neither of them are, as far as games go, that far from the mark in how buggy games are. DA:O and ME2 have their fair share of bugs (Many of which should have been fixed), and so did earlier BioWare titles - BG1 and BG2 as prime examples, along with NWN1. Obsidian aren't technical wizards, nor are Bethesda, so FO:NV was never destined to be a masterpiece (Especially when we consider what Bethesda did to an otherwise good engine).DJBare wrote...

I'm not getting DS3, or at least I currently have no plans to, but I'm going to wager that - like many recent games - it will be buggy and someone, somewhere, will not be able to finish it for reason X, Y and/or Z. Hell, I'm unable to complete Bulletstorm and have had to restart various sections a number of times due to bad programming/object placement.

It's not trolling just because it's an opinion you disagree with. For RPG fans, that is a legitimate criticism of the game. There's nothing that says CD Projekt Red couldn't have made a game set in Sapkowski's world, loosely based on Geralt of Rivia, but have the hero be "The Witcher" who is either male or female and with flexible backstory.OnlyShallow89 wrote...

I happen to like The Witcher and am looking forward to TW2, but the spouse who's an old-time RPG gamer won't play it because of the lack of customizable character.
