I am currently working on a build centered around the biggest Mighty Blow crits. I am only level 15 as of right now.

My current strategy is this:

Hawke- Stack cleave+asail (running might)
Merril- Hex of Torment
Anders - Petrify (running improved heroic aura)

then assuming the target is brittle, delivering the mighty blow

I throw in Sacrificial Frenzy if I have taken some damage

I haven't been playing super long so I am probably missing a lot of subtle ways to really increase my numbers. I know that hex subtracts 25% dmg resist, but is there any way for Varric or Isabela to add some kind of debuff to increase my numbers? Can a target be disorientated AND brittle? Would that even help?

Gear wise, I am trying to stack +% physical dmg on hawke and going for max strength.

Build:
Two handed:
Mighty Blow > Killer Blow > Shattering Blow
Sunder
Giants Reach

Vanguard:
Control
Might > Muscle
Cleave
Destroyer
Massacre
Assail

Reaver:
Blood Frenzy
Sacrificial Frenzy
Devour

Battlemaster:
Bolster
Second Wind

Berserker:
Berserk
Adrenaline

Edit: added berserk and adrenaline, will be upgrading adrenaline asap

any hints to how to improve my build would be great, remember I am not trying to make a super effective bleeding edge min/max build for overall play. I am just trying to make a build where you can get super high crits. I'll post some screen shots of my larger crits as I go

If you really really REALLY are interested in pumping out crits, I would suggest fully upgraded Adrenaline from the Berserker tree.

Adrenaline stacked + Sacrificial Frenzy at low health + Cleave (Claymore) + Second Wind + Savage Berserk + BRITTLE + Might (Muscle) + Valiant Aura + Hex of Torment (Death Hex) = a smoldering pile of remains.

Throw in elemental weakness where applicable, and I'm pretty sure this is the formula for the highest possible spike damage with a 2H Warrior.

:wizard:

Also: Assail is bad. If you're just using it to stack damage, I guess that's OK, but it's not great for normal use. I think those points could be better spent getting you Adrenaline faster.

I actually am just using assail for stacking damage. I figure its just another 10% for one point in my build. I will look into Adrenaline though

Don't use petrify. That will in fact reduce your damage because it applies a damage resistance buff, even with dessicate to your target. Best bet is to go for Winter's Grasp with the Winter's Blast upgrade and either spec all the way to the end of the tree for guaranteed freezes or get lucky with a freeze for brittle.

Also, you cannot stack status effects. If a target is brittle, any new effects like disorient or stagger will overwrite it. Disorient and stagger wouldn't help increase your damage anyways since they only lower attack and/or defense. If you want an additional damage resistance (DR) debuff, bring along Sebastian with a 10 pt Wounding Arrow for -45% DR.

ok, I maker's sighed into Adrenaline and i see where the strength is.

Stand there and stack Adrenaline while getting beat on thus lowering your life.
Then cast hex of torment (improved) and Brittle with Winter's Blast
Then pop cleave, assail, sac frenzy, second wind
Mighty Blow

big crits, more screenshots on the way. thanks to Arelex for the adrenaline tip

You can also give Sebastian a try if you are not too keen in collecting gears. IN1 has some pretty intense elemental builds that can get big numbers but only with the right equipment.

Sebastian's full Righteous Chain and Wounding Arrow can lead to significant damage decreases. Using Elemental brittle instead of Primal brittle can also increase damage.
