After choosing my team for Tali's loyalty mission (Tali is mandatory, of course, made Garrus my second), and upgrading their abilities, the cutscene plays of the Normandy docking with the Migrant Fleet. What I then expect to be a loading screen (probably the biohazard-scan looking one, not that it's important) is instead just a black screen with music.

I can still quit out of the game through the PS3 menu. Choosing Resume after loading ME2 again has the same result.

Fortunately, I was able to Load the previous autosave instead of Resuming/restarting the same mission, so I am able to continue with other assignments. However, I have read other people say simply restarting the PS3 fixed the issue with similar lockups, but that has not helped me in this case.

Was this possibly caused by the latest patch? Any other workarounds?:(

Well, it is working for me today. It went from the cinematic to a talk between Shepard, Tali, and the Quarians. Everything seems to be working. Very odd that it did not work yesterday, even after shutting the PS3 down for an hour and starting again.

Still, it would be nice to know if there is a good answer to what causes this, and how to get around it, just in case it happens again.

I hope we both still get a response from Bioware, Skyfox. Good luck on your end!

As I've thought about it, I have a theory regarding a workaround.

The game actually has 3 different save files: Restart Mission, Auto Save, and the player's manual save file. When choosing Resume from the Main Menu, it checks for these save files in that order.

Restart Mission appears to be a separate type of autosave, and I believe that file was somehow corrupted, keeping the mission from loading properly. Since I was able to manually load the regular Auto Save (by choosing Load from the start screen instead of Resume, which was apparently trying to load the Restart Mission file, then selecting the Auto Save instead of Restart Mission), this put me back on the bridge of the ship, allowed me to start a different mission, which in turn overwrote the bad Tali: Treason "mission autosave" file.

I could have chosen my previous "player save" file, but that would have put me too far back in the game from where I wanted to be. Good thing the Auto Save worked!

If anyone else experiences this, try loading a previous save, or at least the Auto Save instead of the Restart Mission save, do some other mission of some kind (probably anything that forces you to choose squad members), then go back and try the bugged mission again.

I've tried your suggestions yesterday. Unfortunatly, they are a no go. If the save file was corrupt, I suppose it wouldn't load at all instead of crashing after a minute or two.

Anyway, I have it working now through a time consuming workaround. I first tried deleting and reinstalling the update and content packs. No go. Then I deleted all of the game (kept save files) and reinstalled. Now it works.

I thought going for ps3 would eliminate all the hassle of pc-games. Guess I was partially wrong... :(

Did anyone ever figure out what's causing this? I mean anyone beside the developers of course.

Im still wondering why I get a disc read error when going through the omega relay. The rest of the game works perfect......I cannot finish the game. It goes to the point of where they are traveling through then nothing. Black screen with the music playing. Then a disc read error. Is it the disc or a save file or what. Can someone help?

I just had this problem and managed to fix it, this is what I did:

1) Quit the game via PS button.

2) Select the game once the PS3 screen has come back up.

3) Load the game from an Auto Save.

4) Save the game.

5) Load the game you just saved.

6) Start the mission and I had no blackout.
