Was the Qun retconed regarding women?

But Ketojin mentions that "your role would change little if you embraced the Qun" to a male or female Hawke. And The Arishok doesn't mention that female warriors are unsual to you that I recall. Even though he wouldn't have expected it to be the case in Kirkwall, I would have imagined he'd be a little surprised to find the most capable enemy in Kirkwall was someone who likley didn't match up to what he'd might expect to be the case based on his experiecne back in Par Vollen.

In Origins Sten was perplexed how a female Warden or any of the female NPCd could fight. Now I've also learned this seems to be less from a beleif that women can't fight, but rather that being a professional fighter is not a role that they have in the Qun. Sten is actually aghast at the idea of women not fighting in a desperate situation if you take him to Redcliffe.

Sten is confused at first because he believes that Females are better at things other than being a Warrior/Fighter. He is proven wrong over time which he to a point admitts later. Should also point out that even the Arishok recognizes that Hawke was able to kill Tal'vashoth which proves that she is a warrior/fighter. While the Qun generally thinks of Women as being to a point smarter of mind than their Male counterparts. Why they think women should be Shop Keepers over males in many cases as an example. While it may be hard to decide if a child is more capable a fighter or not. A grown adult human who is able to handle Tal'vashoth and an Averaad? Who would ignore their ability just because they are a female?

God I hate Eamon.
Now that my customary Eamon hate whenever someone mentions Redcliffe out of the way, it's always seemed to me a question of the kind of soldiers the Qun uses.
They seem to favour berserker style fighting. Strength overcoming all. Thus, men who are physically stronger are ideal for this role, while women who are considered smarter take on logistics and administration.
I imagine their style of fighting is as rigid as their beliefs, so there's little room for variation in the Antaam.
Female fighters from other cultures are probably not expected to use these same berserker tactics and have already proven themselves anyway.

He said that to my Hawke mage not 5 seconds after I had to kill his buddies for attacking me, because I told them 'Hey, I'm a mage too!"
So I really doubt my role would change little as a mage under Qunari rule...

Your "role" would be exactly the same. You'd still run around making people explode.
You'd just do it with a collar, a handler and your lips sewn shut.

If the Qun have any concept of stealth or commandos, then maybe. But they probably think it's "dishonorable" or something.

Bioware could go that way with Female Qunari in their forces. For example the Asari Commandos as an example for them to base it on. Plus out of any of the races. The only ones who could have Commandos that would meet such a term would be the Qunari.

True, Qunari appear to never lie or conceal actions but then again either the Viscount assumed the Qunari were waiting for another ship or the Qunari actually die lie to him

Omission and denial are what the Qun are all about.
But then I if you wrote in female Qunari commandos you can use that same denial to make it fit, too.
"Women don't fight."
*female Qunari catches a victim unaware, stabs their neck then blows up their building*
"Yes, women don't fight. That wasn't fighting, that was slaughter. Get your facts straight, human."

Bingo! One of the many reasons I don't buy into the whole "qunari just have different values" notion. They're just scum.

I think Qunari warriors are probably more varied than what we see in the game. There seems to be a heavy emphasis on specialisation, apart from the occupations and gender roles sten talks of, the fact that they actually 'become' their function...

Speaking of this, I've been wondering if the devs pulled this from the French "en bas" which, among other things, means "below." As in, the bas are beneath the Qunari.

He's only insulted if he doesn't respect you (and there's seemingly nothing I can do to get that guy to not respect me. I've insulted him. I've lied to his face. I've sided with Petrice and he still respects me. At this point I think he just fancies me).
If he does, you being a woman has no significance.

Why's this? I think Leliana is pretty commando-ish in DA2.

The Arishok wasn't insulted to duel my Female Hawke. He suggested said duel. He just didn't want to Duel a thief that is Isabela. A thief is not worthy. Maybe you just didn't get him to respect you.

The Qunari are the most advanced at making things like stronger ships and bombs and so on. The main reason they've held Seheron and also using things like this let them in the past fight about all of Thedas to a stand still.

He respects honesty. He sees humans bullsh*tting each other in every level of society, and he assumes you will try to bullsh*t him, too. So when you don't, he respects that.
