I am a big fan of escapist magazine, particularly the Zero Punctuation. This dude says things like they are, and his review of DA2 hit the nail on the head for me! Stupidly funny, and I found myself shamelessly agreeing with 90% of the things he said.  DA2 is NOT a bad game, just didn't turn out how we hoped :(

This video is a MUST SEE for anyone at BIOWARE to get the FULL PICTURE on what players REALLY think of DA2.

I, for one, am a proud Yahtzee fan.

Though I did find it quite odd that he chose to gripe, not once, but *twice* about load times. Say what? In my game, the load screens are lightning fast. Too fast. I can never finish reading the tips in them.

Really? They're fast for me and I play on the 360. Of all the issues that I could find to complain about in Dragon Age 2, the loading times wouldn't even be on the list.

Also, someone posted this here a week or so ago already..

The problem is not wholly the loading time of an area by itself, it's more about the construction and flow of the quest and story line, sometimes requiring you to go to one area only to have a quick chat that will lead you to another. I think he said something about that too.

There was already a thread about this when it just got released in the general discussion forum which is much louder and inherently filling up faster.

I'm playing on a laptop with SSD, and usually there is almost zero load time.

However, I've noticed that when switching to a controlled party member that is very far away during combat, there is a bit of a delay as well as a "Loading..." message.

This happens to me, but it existed in Origins also.

Ahhh... was pretty good. He also had a pretty good Bioshock and Fallout:New Vegas review as well. He did an "Extra Punctuation" piece on DA 2 as well- same website.

"There's only three dragons in the whole game anyway, they should have called it Racism Age"

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Honestly, the race/culture/class issues brought up in the game are among my favorite things about it, but that still made me laugh my ass off. Honestly, it was pretty much spot on, I've got to say - though I haven't had many loading issues myself. Freezing issues, though. >.<

I see the loading times as the punishment for dying in DA2 haha (I play on ps3). I have not read the review yet, but I've played enough RPG's to know what he's going to say. As someone mentioned before, going to the docks to talk to someone, then going to lowtown to talk to someone, then going to wounded coast to go into a cave that has THE SAME EXACT model as the last quest, is just bad quest design. Every quest is a hit-job mission, which isn't entirely all that bad seeing as I LOVE the combat in this game. I got ME2 for free for buying this game, and the quests are so much more in-depth and whatnot.

The game is long, but the story is short. If you want to tell your friend the story it takes about 5 seconds. Most of the game is just doing side-quests. But looking back on it, I think Bioware just wanted to stress the situation between Templars and Mages as much as they could. 90% of quests have to do with the tension between the two, and we all know how the game ends.

It just seems that not a lot happened, but what DID happen is a big plot point for the WHOLE LORE of Dragon Age. This part needed to be told, one way or another..even if some parts are more dull than others. The ending gets you pumped for some serious issues that are about to go down, which is good.

The story IMO just wasn't good enough for a 60 dollar retail game. Probably could have been shorten, but made DLC. I have not played DA:O, but I've heard the world was massive, compared to a section of the Free Marches. I don't regret my purchase at all, I love this game with all my heart, but it definitely wasn't flawless, and I can see how most DA:O fans were disappointed.

I agree, story was lacking.  However pc loading times, even with my 2gb of 800mHz ram are less than 5/10 seconds :)

Yahtzee is hilarious. What people forget is that he's a comedic critic. His opinions shouldnt be taken as a review. Or you'd prolly never buy a game he looked at.

as compared to the da2 review on the same site which is the DEAD opposite of what yahtzee is saying.  The review doesn't even mention the negative parts if i recall.    I trust his views more because he doesn't sugar coat anything :)

He makes me want to buy Painkiller. His Bulletstorm/Killzone reviews were spot on as well.

I always find that the best way to see whether I like a game or not is to go out buy it, then play it :P

I actually think that the story in DA2 is better crafted than the one in DA:O. Yahtzee is playing it up for laughs, but if you think about it, he's castigating the game for not being a simple fairy tale with a simple hero and big baddie painted with a target on its back.

Don't get me wrong, there is a time and a place for simple fairy tales, but I don't think it speaks well of the gamer community to collectively fail to appreciate the kind of narrative improvements that are present in DA2. It's a significantly more sophisticated story.

Yahtzee is wickedly funny and I don't say this to detract from what he does in any way, but if you've ever spent any time watching his vids you'd know he consistently bashes *any* RPG that comes out. He's a great comedy writer and a good game critic... just not an RPG kind of guy. I've found myself agreeing with him on his reviews of any other genre...except for RPGs.

Small wonder that a hardcore RPG for hardcore RPG fans produced by the company that arguably holds one of the oldest and best hardcore RPG pedigrees (along with Bethseda) gets the full Yahtzee bashing.

Well that's not totally true he was pretty positive about ME2 and for all his poking of DAO he did admit it was absorbing. RPGs aren't his favorite genre but he'll give them a fair shake if their good...unless it comes from Japan.

The point is that Yahtzee rarely gives any RPG a fair shake, because he's not an RPG kind of guy. His positive comments about ME2 and DAO are anomalies.
