Just bought a copy of  EAs Value Games version Mass Effect after reciveing the sequal from owning Dragon Age 2. There is one thing that keeps bugging out though, and that is the overheating of weapons. Each time sofar a weapon has overheated it gets stuck and doesnt cooldown until I enter a new level. Looked around the forums for a solution for the problem and only thing I found was something a fan had tried but from what I understood it disabled some achivements and that wouldnt be worth it for my first play through.

Is there any official patch or solution to this problem?

If you're referring to deleting the MassEffectProfile file, that does seem to have worked for some people, but it will indeed wipe your achievements.

It won't disable any of them; the game creates a fresh file and you can gain them all back eventually if you fulfill them again. But you do lose any you've gained thus far. That said, I think you may be able to add achievements at will via the in-game console; you might want to check out the PC Cheats page on the Mass Effect Wikia.

There is no official fix; and indeed no other unofficial fix that I know of.

BTW, have you been playing with patch 1.02 the entire time, or did you start out on a lower patch version?

Hey there! I was looking for solution too, didn't find anything constructive...

The problem as i read is caused by getting gun related achievement...
maby poking achievements with this:

might help... ended up recreating my profile(by deleting that is...)
