So from the GameInformer issue featuring Mass Effect 3, we know that:

"Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon's combat performance and its appearance.
All classes can wield all weapons unhindered now, but will have limited slots to carry them. Only the Soldier can carry all weapons at once. Probably means Adept, Engineer, and Sentinal will be limited to two, and Vanguard and Infiltrator will have three.[/list]I googled "Mass Effect 3"

and I found more more pictures of the GI issue, a picture in particular that showed 5 different assault rifles, that all look distinctly different and like nothing I've seen so far.

I'm very excited about the possibility of modding, and the fact that it affects the physical appearance, especially after seeing them. What sorts of weapon mods do you think we'll get to play with?

I hope we can customize our weapons with silencers, sick looking grenade launcher attachments, maybe some awesome decals...and hopefully we'd be able to change the color!

I'm going in with my infiltrator though...so you better bet I'm customizing my weaponry accordingly! Stealh shall defeat the Reapers...fear my silenced Sniper Rifle Harbinger! Har Har!

Balanced mods would be nice imo. Say increasing barrel increases caliber meaning more firepower but also increases recoil meaning less accuracy.

Or scopes giving you more "zoom" or accuracy if non-sniper but reducing firing rate.

Ok, first, if modding works the way we think it does right now, it'll be awesome.
I have read a lot that people don't like the idea of weapon slots with all weapons available for all classes because they are of the opinion that the classes are defined by their weapons skills. I don't agree with that. In fact I think that BW got the perfect solution here.
E.g. my adept in ME1 always got the assault rifle bonus talent, so did my sentinel because I just love that weapon (esp in ME1). Gives you the feeling to really play a soldier. So in fact, in ME1 it was also possible to give any class any weapon you wanted as soon as you unlocked the bonus talent which wasn't that hard.
Also if people really want to roleplay their engineer/adept/whatever, just give them pistols and smgs and it will just be like ME2. Provided the balancing of ME3 is not significantly worse than the previous games, it shouldn't be a problem.

So IMO, BW made very good choices concerning the changes in the loadout/weapon system. ... as far as we can tell from the info we have right now of course.

EDIT: A quick word on heavy weapons, if they make a return, I really want an unobtrusive HW. I hated the big lumps on my infiltrators back so I actually ended up modding them out via coalescent.ini. It would have been nice to give a e.g. a small laser pointer to paint targets for Normandy orbital bombardment or something cool like that. The fact that you can rather easily beat the game on insanity without ever using one shows however that they are just a bonus and as long as I can mod them out again in ME3, I am fine as well.

I'm hoping barrels, different scopes maybe,and... lazers!

It would be really cool to have different stocks or customizable textures, too. Maybe things like grenade launchers?

sadly, gameinformer doesn't come out in the UK. On the other hand, I've read you signature stuff, so I'm pretty much informed.

The idea about the weapons is GENIUS. That means you don't have to take a pistol? Or do you still have to?

I'm assuming bonus powers will stick then, if there will be no bonus weapon training.
What would be cool, is that for mid-game training, you would be able to unlock either a second power, or a weapon slot. MORE FREEDOM!

It's the freedom in every class that makes the game so diverse, and it would probably take over 100 playthroughs to use every class uniquely, and then about 600 more for the story endings as well. Not that it's a big deal, I'll probably do about 10. Nah, 50, at least.

I feel like Bioware has perfected/combined the best assets of both 1 and 2 to create the best hybrid that we could imagine. I HUGELY support this new method of choosing weaponry. It's super smart, and also really a fun way of doing things!

That's because BioWare actually listen to us. They know what they had better in ME1, and what they had better in ME2. So, they pick the best bits, and mix it together. AWESOME SOUP.

Indeed...I always knew that Bioware would  make 3 the best experience ever. They literally prove themselves on ever account and truly make vast strides in their whole development processes over each game.

Ok, a further inspection of the new pics I have seen the following weapons:
  • Mattock (from DLC)
  • Revenant
  • Viper Sniper rifle
  • Phalanx Pistol  (from DLC)
  • Tempest SMG
  • Avenger Assault Rifle
This leads me to a very tasty conclusion:

BioWare is going to for Mass Effect 3 let us use most if not all our weapons from ME2, in addition to atleast 6 new weapon bases, as seen in the pictures

This game alone just got epic based upon the weapons. I cant wait to see how much more epic it will become based on everything else!Image IPB

Part of me hopes we can chose whether we bring heavy weapons or not. I play as an infiltrator, and I prefer to play the stealthier sniper routine. Having heavy armor, and a canon on my back doesn't seem like something a sniper would do.

My thoughts on the subject are that I want a sniper rifle, shotgun, and heavy pistol. I am really excited for Mass Effect 3.

One of those weapons looks like it has a freakin' bayonet on it.

THAT... Would be an awesome addition.

What I assume are Cerberus Commandos appear to be carrying Eviserators, and while doesn't confirm its return it does seem likely.

It may just be my eyes messing with me, but does it look like Shep has a melee weapon in one of the pics? It's the fourth picture from the new batch of pics.

sweet. I also like the idea of mixing it up with the different weapons. I also have no problem with this. I could very easily see an infiltrator going with a shotgun to sneak up and masacre people point blank, or a vanguard using charge to cross the battlefield to a superior position, knock out a few bad guys when landing, then snipe people.

From the pose, it looks like he's just butt-stroking the merc with his rifle. Same as he's done in ME2.

On the orange pistol-lookin' thing?

First silencer I've ever seen that was pointy.

It's not a melee weapon, Shep's actually rifle butting the guy!!

There are two things awesome with that:

1) RIFLE-BUTTING ANIMATIONS! No more shotgun-punching the enemy after a vanguagrd charge. Maybe we'll get reload cancel whilst doing this? I can imagine Shep is skilled enough to reload his gun and beat a guy down at the same time.

2) No melee weapons - Would have made it too similar to Halo/Star Wars. And you know something hit the fan when you're mixing your Halo's and your Mass Effect's :P
