The route for the best narrative I reckon is to go to Redcliffe first, once you get into the castle seek out the third way that causes you to go to the Mages' Tower, which will bag you the Mages' bit and then lead you back to Redcliffe to start the urn bit. Once you have finished the urn I find that narratively speaking Orzammer and Dalish can be done in either order so far. That's what makes the most sense to me anyway, it's not the most 'powerful' route but you seem to be asking what makes the most sense storywise and that's the one that did for me.

You're right; that's exactly what I'm asking.  Thanks.  : )

I don't think there is any intended order for story reasons.

But Alistair knows Eamon and says he is a good man. He also has an army which may have been intended to fight the Darkspawn. So I think it is useful to quickly get his support against both Loghain and the Darkspawn. Because he can be a powerful ally and may trust what Alistair has got to say.

I think it also depends on your Origin. It may make sense for a Mage to go back to the tower early because heis familiar with the place and the people there. Whilst some Origins may have left on bad terms and leave it till later.

It also makes sense to briefly visit Denerim to learn what is going on in the capital and how people are reacting to events.

I think it does make some sense to which origin you take. A Mage who, er, took certain choices might speed back to the Tower... while another might shudder and do a 'No way in hell I'm going that way again'. A curious City Elf might immediately be all 'Ooo, Dalish!' and want to run over there. A dwarf of either origin might stoically wish to never return to Orz, and do it reluctantly last.while another might wish to make it their sole duty to run back over there just to do a 'na na na na, you can't keep me outtt~' dance.

(It also depends on origin: although my character felt great guilt and didn't want to return to Orz, the minute she heard the 'Dwarven king is dead!' rumor she went off like a rocket.)
