Major credit to BTCentral who put what me and others said into a very easy step by step fashion. I'm making this it's own topic so BTs steps don't get "lost" in another thread. Make sure to BACKUP the save file before you edit it! :)

Below is word for word copy from BT's post in another thread:

As it looks like you are using the PC version, you can fix it yourself.

- Download pyGFF (the one that says gff4editor-versionnumber.7z) and extract using 7-zip or similar.
- Run daosavegame.exe.
- Go to the menu and click Open File.
- The save file will be in either:
C:\\Users\\[your username]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Characters\\[character first name]\\Saves\\ or
C:\\Documents and Settings\\[your username]\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Characters\\[character first name]\\Saves\\
You'll need to find whatever slot your last save is in (the easiest way is to sort the folders by Date Modified).
- Open the save, go down to Party and click the plus sign next to it.
- Select the name of your Hawke from the list.
- There are two possible values (for the friendship bugs) to be reset Damage_Resistance (ID 32) and Animation_Speed_Modifier (ID 42).
- If those are negative, reset them to zero.
- File -> Save.
- Quit the application, fire up DA2, load save and enjoy!

Hope this helps.

Here are some of my, personal suggestions/additions:

Make sure to follow BTs above steps!!! The patch will fix the bug, but it will NOT fix your save games!

Lastly, some people have reported issues running daosavegame.exe. If this is the case or it's trashing your save file then you can just run EDITOR.EXE

If you run editor here is how you find the data:
  • Open the save file in editor.exe
  • Expand 0
  • Expand 16002
  • Expand 16208
  • Expand 16209
  • Expand 16350
  • Under 16350 there will be 45 lines (numbered on the left)
You want 32 and 42 as stated above, but you DONT look for them on the left! Look to the RIGHT
The proper lines will end with 3 numbers with commas ending in 32 or 42
Example: 0.0,11.0,32 or 0.0,15.0,42

Expand 32 or 42

Click on the line with "SAVEGAME_STATPROPERTY_BASE"

That number in either case SHOULD be 0, if it's negative, change it to 0 (or a positive # of your chosing)

Then you MUST click the save button. This does NOT save your file, it just saves your changes for when your ready to save the file

Now repeat for the 2nd stat

When done click file save as and overwrite the file

You are done! :)

EDITED NOW THAT 1.02 IS OUT

Today I realized I had -18 speed...and my 2-handed warrior was really sluggish...thank god for this editor (and this post BTW).

I have a bunch of items that modify attack speed, and with Isabella's friendship "bonus" . I set it to 12 (that was the total of speed bonus of my items+ isabella's bonus) and here I go...back to a decent animated hawke.

Thanks so much for the post. I had to use the editor.exe to get things to work correctly but with your guide it was a breeze.
I had -75 speed mod. Put it back to 0. The game is fun again.
Thanks!!!!!!

Guys, thank you very much for this explanation and fix! Saved me going back days of gameplay! Had an unbelievable -95% to attack speed (Hawke was doing an impression of Neo from the Matrix =D ) and -35% damage resistance.

Have also installed the latest patch (now 1.03), which seems to have stopped it from happening again, though the respective passive icons still appear when they shouldn't, without any of the undesired effects however. At least now I can edit the save game again, should I need to. Interestingly, the patch also seems to have fixed all my previous "broken" saves; though they all still have the +5% on both stats, even when they shouldn't.

Thank you everyone who contributed to figuring out how/why this happens and for working out the fix and sharing it with everyone!
