The best example of this I can think of immediately is Old Man's War, by John Scalzi. Here we're doing genemods to improve combat viablility, rather than to make "alien babies," but the science fiction is the same. (Note: also one of the universes most similar in feel to the Mass Effect universe, with relation to humanity's default interactions with other species. Main character is somethig of a Paragade, too.)
So some of the ideas about genetic modification isn't completely out there, but it would most likely be more similar to "figure out why sharks don't get cancer, and try to replicate that effect in humans" kind of thing than out and out true hybrids.

Unless its ever shown that the genetic code as we know it is actually a chemical inevitability (and the bit of flexibility of the code even here on Earth is evidence against that), then either 1.) it is EXTREMELY improbable that any two independently originated organisms would share the same code, and 2.) if organisms on different planets were found to share the same code, it would be a strong indicator of common origin (for example, evidence for the "panspermia hypothesis").
Of course, it all comes down to how realistic the writers want to be with their biology.

Would it be possible for Shep to have an interspecies child? I know it's possible with the Asari, but I want to know if it is possible with a Turian or Drell.

IF it could possibly happen, why have over the course of 2 games, several comic books, and a few novels why has there not once been any mention of any sort what so ever of it happening?

for prety much the same reason that only 1 guy have been brought back from the dead, bioengenering cost soooooo much...

And then the creator wants to kill it in the next game.

No amount of bioengineering will ever make human and quarian DNA compatible. I'm sorry, but that's just how science flies.BarrelDrago wrote...
