I get the feeling we're going to see talking darkspawn in the future. I know my Warden killed the Architect back in DAA, but during Act III when you encounter Nathaniel he mentions the Architect being sparred, even if you had elected to kill him! Is this a bug or intended?

Also, what does this possibly mean for Dragon Age III? Nathaniel has also hinted at "new allies" for the Wardens and "strange times." I have the feeling we might see a talking darkspawn companion in the future, maybe heavily cloaked and disguised so he can move about the lands of humanity. What is everyone else's take on this...?

Also, what do you think lies in store for Thedas? There is more happening behind the scenes than just the templars and the mages. The activity of the Wardens hints at this and their interest in Hawke's expedition. I get the feeling that something nasty was unleashed whenever that idol was brought out of the Deep Roads. I think that thaig wasn't of dwarven design at all...and maybe darkspawn design?

That idol's shape reminded me eeriely of the Architect.

Oh, additionally: I got to thinking about the thaig again. It definitely isn't of dwarven design, BUT possibly Tevinter. The Chantry does claim that the Tevinter Imperieum is responsible for bringing about the creation of the darkspawn by dirtying the Golden City with their sin...perhaps that isn't as literal as the Chantry would have us believe?

I can see a bunch of crazy blood mages doing some nasty research that went horribly wrong. It wouldn't be the first time that magic had influenced living creatures. They created the mabari. However, what if they tried to actually CREATE life and the darkspawn were the result?

Your encounter with Nathaniel is actually a bug... They're working on fixing that.

However, regardless of if you kill him or not... Shianni carries on his legacy. So, yes, we will be seeing talking darkspawn in the future... Now what really matters is what will they do without their savior?

That's a good question...

The darkspawn are still what they are, and I think that was displayed in Awakening pretty clearly. Even the so-called "benign" darkspawn who chose to follow the Architect did some pretty horrible things, like breaking a Warden's legs who tried to escape from them.

I think having one in the party would be an interesting companion to have, although it would have to take a remarkable circumstance indeed to make anyone willingly work with one of these creatures. I mean, afterall, they reproduce by capturing the women of other species and turning them into Brood Mothers. That's just horrific.

Hmmmm, maybe a Hurlock that believes whole heartedly in what the Architect was preaching? That the darkspawn have to break free from their shackes and learn their new place in the world and how to exist in it. It'd make for some interesting conversations, especially since the companion would basically be trying to understand the concepts of "good" and "evil" that until then it was ignorant to.

"Your kind say murder is wrong, yet I have seen you kill your own with glee. You tell me I am a...horror...a...monster. Why is that?"

I think it'd be interesting to see how such a companion could be influenced by Hawke. What sort of enlignment could he offer a morally confused creature like this? Its only decisions concerning "choice" being very recent. It's been cut off from the "song" and its instinct to seek out the Old Gods. What would such a being, so used to ruthless violence, massacre, and destruction chose to do with its life and freedom? What place could it find for itself in a world that fears and despises it?

A darkspawn companion would be great in interrogations. "If you don't tell me what you know, I'm sure my friend here will tear it out of you" "Thanks for the info & I'm sorry I lied....Hurlock feast upon his flesh will you?"

Exactly. That would get people talking faster than Fenris' "fisting" ever did.

I think it's been set up nicely as a real possibility for the future. I'd love to see it. I think the Architect is a fascinating character. I spared him in my Awakenings save, mainly because I found him so interesting in the novels. His voice actor is pretty awesome too!

My Warden wound up killing him. He was fascinating, but he was still one of the darkspawn - a creature of horror and sin. There was no getting around that, despite his noble aspirations. That, and me going into his lair to find one of my wardens with broken legs and claiming to have been tortured by an ogre kind of killed his whole story of being "peaceful."

Well, that was just some of them. The Wardens attacked before, and being cruel to your enemies isn't something so rare. Humans do it as well. Or elves. Most people is terrified of finding a Dalish Clan, for exemple, and in Dust Town, in Orzammar, you find that dwarven woman whose kneecaps were broken without a real reason. And I won't start with slaves or mages.
And we can find exemples of good darkspawn as well. If you don't kill The Messenger, people in Amaranthine start to talk about a "cloaked but lisping figure who helps travelers in danger".

I don't think that free darkspawn are more evil than other races. They're just confused, and as people said before, don't know exactly what "good" or "evil" means. I spared The Architect, because I'd rather have a "pacifist" as their leader than anyone else. Imagine if they decided that we are the unreasonable ones and end up having another Mother giving orders... At least you can talk with The Architect knowing that he'll listen and consider what you say.

And I'd love to have a darkspawn companion in DA3. He would easily become my favorite. The only problem I see is that darkspawn taint everything they touch... Imagine if your other companions start to die because of him or something
