Well they could probably say that she had sex with Riordan. I mean, who's to say she didn't try and get Riordan to do it?

Then, they could say your Warden suffered massive trauma to the head as he was knocked back by the blast and that's what killed him.

And maybe Morrigan indirectly helped with the battle, or was just near Denerim enough for the Archdemon's soul to go to the baby.

And I wouldn't call Awakening's story a retcon. I'd call it a "Here you can import your Warden as if you did the Dark Ritual and lived so you don't have to go through the trouble of the final battle at Denerim all over again."

More for convenience rather than a retcon.

The Riordan thing won't work because if you ask Morrigan about it, she clearly states that even if she thought he could be convinced, it wouldn't work because he's had the taint too long and that the ritual required a warden like the player, Alistair, or Loghain or it would be impossible.

Ah. Ok she knocked Alistair/Loghain unconscious during the night and then had sex.

I suppose they could still make a game with it but it would have to be non-canon and would basically just be a filler game for the overarching plot(s) of the Dragon Age series that doesn't really effect much.
They either take away the realism by making some weird plot twist that makes it happen anyway and disregards the players choice or they just leave it out of the entire story, or they find some way to make it an important part of the story but not so important that it causes problems for people who chose otherwise.

I meant I thought in DA2 they ignore if you Warden dies. I doubt they would ever make a filler game. While it would make a few players mad, I wonder how many. I would bet it would be a minority, thus they wouldn't have a problem retconing it.

If they brought the OGB in and you did the US and they kept your Warden dead in that scenario, that wouldn't be negating any choice.

You said no.

You fought the Archdemon.

You died.

That was pretty much the extent of your choice.

No need for a definitive retcon people. Check the earlier posts, but there's always the potential for an origins based choice at the start of the game, whereby you choose your character's background - popular in Bioware games. Morrigan's child with the soul of the archdemon could be one of them. You could then choose that as a standard predetermined option or import your file which made that choice. Perfectly plausible and would sate all choices and opinions.

I still think that death is a bit much to be due to placebo.

Would be nice to have the kid grow up and then be used as a central party member, like Anders are central in DA2. Being nostalgic about the Baldurs Gate game, there we we have a godblooded protagonist, this could be similar.

Honestly as it stands right now the DR and Baby are not canon.

But, Bioware could easily make it so if they chose to. The fix is simple really. All they have to say is that she ran into another Warden or someone else of incredible power nearby as she was leaving Redcliffe. For those who will ask why the child was never mentioned if they did not perform the DR with their PC they could easily say that Morrigan wanted to keep it a secret so that no one would try to harm the child or something like that. See how simple that was. That is just one possibility and it isn't even a Retcon. Just because it doesn't happen on your screen for you to see doesn't mean it never possibly happened at all.(The whole "If a tree falls in the forest......etc" thing.)

OAN, Does anyone else realize how much the DR had story gaps BW overlooked?

The ritual was supposed to take place on the "eve of battle" in order to work. Yet they were in Redcliffe when you perform the Dark Ritual. If anyone else remembers they mention at a point in the game that it takes 2 weeks or so to get from Redcliffe to Denerim. So if that is the case the DR was not performed on the eve of battle at all. This means one of two things. 1.) That the ritual does not have to be done the night before and that there is actually a big buffer zone in order for it to still work(which means she could have easily found someone else within that timeframe if you did not do the DR yourself) or 2.) That Bioware just overlooked this huge storyline piece.

You guys all know that in Witch Hunt Morrigan is preggers with the baby no matter what you did in Origins? I'm just sayin it's pretty clear it's already canon.

If it helps any of you, if your Warden lives she is present at the celebration afterwards - she's the pointy eared dog standing next to your mabari and Sten. It's the same animal from she takes if you reject the DR and she runs off.

So she was in Denerim after the battle, and likely during.

She isn't. She only is if your warden, Alistair or Loghain had sex with her.

I would reply this to very few people on the message boards: I'll take your word for it.  You would know better than I.

She's actually already given birth to the kid if you did the DR in Origins.

I doubt any woman could be pregnant for two and a half years.

Well, Bonnie from Family Guy, but that doesn't count.

Child would be too young to make a story sound anything reasonable. Would rather have Wynne's Child who would be much older being a more prominent character than some optional ending in the end of a game with so many options to make the writers' head spin.

Did nobody pay attention to what the ritual she did accomplished? A kid with an old gods soul, a warden father and a powerful maleficar bloodline? If Biowear dosent jump on that in 3 they are dumb deaf and stupid

I would only hope that Morrigan's child isn't the player's character only because it would be human, and I would like to be able to choose the race of my character in DA3.

There's no doubt that Morrigan and Flemeth will show up in the next game, with the child as an antagonist if it's the OGB, or at the very least an anti-villain.

I thought that after Origins. The series seems to be going in a different direction now. Nice necro btw.

Also, it'd be nice to see some data as to the percentage of playthroughs that did the Dark Ritual, just so we know the scale of the audience we are talking about here.

Still want to see this.
