I started using FB but it is buggy sometimes and doesn't always work...but Barrier allows you to deal with multiple goons and can be instantly activated. I feel like it is heretical to use it but it is so damn useful. Should I feel guilty about it?

What a strange question. Of course you should feel guilty.

But you shouldn't let that stop you...

I recently created a Vanguard with Sniper-Rifle ability in Mass Effect 1 for import, just so I could create an Infiltrator with a biotic bonus power in Mass Effect 2, without breaking the almighty rules of roleplay-gaming ... I'm probably just weird that way :-D

So I understand your concerns ;-)

Use Energy Drain. It's tech, boosts your shields while stripping others (plenty of targets on hardcore or insanity mode to keep your shields boosted). Or Geth shield boost, also tech.

Flashbangs are a little slow for a shotgun infiltrator - that is, you throw it, decloaking/exposing yourself, then you have to close-in, AND THEN you get to start shooting. I started my SG Infiltrator that way, but had to switch out to Neural Shock.

I'm not a stickler for tech/biotic/combat purity, so I don't mind you using Barrier that way. I would recommend you try NS, Slam, or even Stasis, as they're 1 pt. wonders: instacast, quick-cooldown, powerhouse abilities. They are very helpful in the fast pace of CQC. I guess Barrier is good in many of the same ways.

I personally favor insta-cast powers when using shotguns and SRs, like Energy Drain, Neural Shock, etc. Those powers can be cast through the sniper scope and in close range they pretty much make you CC them so much faster.

And yes, FB is BUGGY as hell, especially in the Arrival DLC. I have to update my guide and keep track of FB derps.

Also, it's worth looking into Reave if you don't mind biotics, I had a lot of fun with this:

I'm really into the whole Biotic Assassin thing, similar to a vampire.

Personally on my Shottie Infil I took AP ammo(would have taken Warp, but didn't want to mix biotics in for role playing reasons), because I didn't want anything to interfere with Cloaking. Barrier is ok, but it takes away from cloak time, once you get upgraded medi-gel it does the same. The slight bonus to damage from AP allowed me to one shot many armored mooks, and didn't slow down my other powers any. I really didn't need any boost to shields later in the game, because I could one shot up to two enemies coming off Assassination cloak if they were close using the Evis Shottie.

Warp Ammo is considered an Ammo Power and not a Biotic Power. I like to think of it this way:
Incendiary Ammo: Incinerate in a bullet
Disruptor Ammo: Overload in a bullet
Cryo Ammo: Cryo Blast in a bullet
Warp Ammo: Warp in a bullet

Technically Warp Ammo is of course an Ammo-power, but from a roleplaying perspective it is definitely a biotic-power (a very potent one). The description of Squad Warp Ammo sheds light on this matter: "In an impressive feat of sustained biotic concentration, you can grant the effects of warp ammo to the entire squad.

Same can be said about Disruptor Ammo - it's effect are just as tech related as WA is related to biotics; Incendiaty effects are also considered a tech ability, Cryo idem.
