Trying to finish Awakenings. I am playing through Vigil's Keep, having let the city burn. So far I have defended the gates and killed all the "childern" but when I return to the gates to help Varel nothing happens. There is a barrier which prevents me from helping. But according to the walkthrough I should be fighting Ogres until Varel's fight concludes. Nothing for me to do except watch as Varel fights.. I double checked the east wall to make sure all the beasts there were dead.

Any ideas on what is happening and how I can fix it? (I did check through search first but could not find an answer)

Shameless bump - I had contacted EA Support who suggested going through the forums looking for help. Do they not know how many complaints about possible bugs there are????

I know that the Seneschal is supposed to die defending the gates but the problem is he won't. Even with his health bar empty he continues fighting. I deleted the game I was playing and started again and removed all mods in case there was a conflict, but in the next run through the same thing is happening. Any suggestions before my PC goes flying through the window?

You know, I never played that ending.  However, it appears it is replete with bugs, according to http://dragonage.wik...of_Vigil's_Keep

Mods may be a factor... how far back did you go when you restarted?  One possibility is to restart before you make the decision to fight at either the city or the keep.

I was blaming the mods but very few affected Awakenings, most of mine are for Origins. I did take all off to be on the safe side. I went back to where the lords meet in Vigils Keep and a woman runs in to say the Amaranthine is being attacked. When there the servant from the Architect appears to advise that the Mother is attacking the Keep so have to decide which to save. (As Bann Esmerelle is such a nasty piece of work I let her city burn!) But as soon as I get to the point above it goes wrong.

Edit - just read through the Wiki article which says a cutscene should start showing Varel fighting when I approach teh gates after killing all the Children at the East Wall. I know that they are all dead as I doubel checked in case I had missed something. This would appear to be the problem.

Still waiting on any further contact from EA support but as their last reply said I was welcome to post in the forums and gave me $20 dollar discount for the Store I got the feeling that they were finished with the issue.

Hmmm... if I have some time this afternoon, I may dust off an old saved game and see if I can replicate your results. Could it be something as simple as a pathing/triggering issue? The next wave doesn't start because you're not where the game say you're suppose to be? Dunno.

Just to speed along the process, could you post your hardware specs and OS information?

Thanks,

RI

As a complete technophobe this means nothing to me!! But hope this helps:

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2.5Ghz
2.7 Gb available RAM
GE Force GE240 (1 GB VRAM)
Widows 7 64 bit

(I know RAM is an issue as cannot use recommended settings but have had no issues. On saying that getting a new motherboard and more RAM tomorrow)

As to the pathing the Guard Captain had an arrow above his head which disappeared during the Children fight. That may be part of it as he was the one who was telling me where to go kill beasts.

Alas, I though I had a save towards the end of the game, but I don't. I suggest you follow the pathing issue. Also, are you experiencing any slow-down or choppiness during this mission? Your specs should run the game, but if the CPU is working hard because there's a lot of enemies on the field (or recently killed), this could be an old fashion calculation problem... in which case, lowering some graphics settings/resolution *might* help.

No slow down or choppiness and the game has been fine during much busier fights. As to resolution I have lowered the settings as I knew that there was a memory issue with the game. I will try again once the computer is upgraded just in case as it does struggle if I play for too long.

Are you reinstalling Windows w/ your new hardware?  I ask because there is always the "nuclear option"... backing up your saved games and doing a full uninstall/reinstall of the games.  I don't suggest this lightly, of course.

Not if I can help it. But I have done a full back up, just in case.

Oh well, no change. New motherboard installed, now 8 gig RAM and game now shows as way above the recommended level for playing. But, still when I kill all the Children the cutscene that should start will not commence. On the map the white arrow that shows a quest is still there and highlights a Warrior. I suspect that I need to speak to him as he is the trigger but when I click on him nothing happens. Is there a way around this to move on?

Thanks - had searched the forums - not too sure how I missed that. I will try it out tonight and see if that does the trick. If it does, you will get my thanks. If not the scream of frustration may deafen Glasgow.

Well, let us know either way... if it does work, I'll make that link more prominent, somehow.

Many thanks for your help. The console script worked though had to jump to the final battle with the Armoured Ogre and The Herald as it seems that there is another bug when the enemy does not move from outside the Keep. At least the Siege is done and I can move on to the Mother's Lair.

Thanks again
