Well, well well. Now this is the Mass Effct I always wanted.
As one of the few who were disapponted with ME2 I must say everything sounds great.
My only peeve is Ashley's look, pleash te tell me that's not what she fights in Bioware. She is a soldier through and through, she wouldn't be caught dead on the frontlines with that outfit.
There's sexy time and then there's fightig time.
The two should NOT mix.
Unless it's a catfight.

I don't know why there's a lot of arrogance and blind prejudice by RPG fans against "shooter elements".Synobal wrote...
I dunno the addition of more shooter elements seems sort of meh, to me.
Firstly, Mass Effect was never a cRpg, ever. It was always a 3rd person roleplaying shooter.
Having all aspects of their respective genres refined can only be a positive thing. It's not always black and gray. Don't think of Mass Effect as an RPG. Don't always classify things into genres. Mass Effect is an amazing video game. Deus Ex was an amazing video game.
It's not blind prejudice, it's understanding the topic at hand. You cannot be an RPG and a Shooter, an RPG is character skill based, a shooter is player skill based, the two systems cannot coexist, they are polar opposites.
Deus Ex is a great example, it is a Shooter with it's interface intentionally crippled in order to tack on the facade of an RPG, by reducing the crippling with each level. At some finite point the Player's ability overcomes the crippling, and the game is a full on Shooter from that point forwards.
I find it no end of entertaining that people scream "Arrogance! Prejudice!" when faced with the issues that preclude the combination of the two distinct and unmixable genres, rather than actually take the 2 minutes to understand what the problem is.
Further, that whole philosophical attempt at dodging the topic really doesn't work. The genres are distinct, defined, and everything falls quite neatly into them. Just because some marketing person tries to claim "Hybrid!!!!" in order to sell more copies doesn't make the Genres any less real. A game falls into the genre that it's gameplay is defined by, no matter how much marketing stuff is put on the box to sell copies.
Mass Effect was an amazing Shooter, and nearly an RPG Lite by virtue of it's skill system
Mass Effect 2 was an extremely poor TPS
Deus Ex was a pretty decent Shooter
Neither you, nor a marketing person, can redefine the Genres. Just like you cannot redefine Movie Genres, or TV Genres, or Book Genres. They exist, they fullfill their purpose completely.

Oh son, I have to disagree. There is nothing sexier than a good-looking lass who also knows her way around a heavy machine gun.
Sexiness.

I'd rather continue this discussion in a thread specifically about comparing Shooter Elements and how you think they cannot truely harmonize with RPG mechanics. Feel free to create a topic on that if you like

I just wanted to let you know that people like me actually like the idea because all my characters made different choices. I am not even dreaming about changing your mind. That's all. Carry on as if I was not here.charmingcharlie wrote...

I also have a lot of Shepards. For me it would be great to see which character did what. It also allows me to check if I forgot some important decision. If so the game generator will pause and prompt me. I think that is great.
That is great for you, if you want to sit through a 20 - 30 minute comic EVERYTIME you start a new game with a save import then that is just fine I have no problem with that. I on the other hand will not want to sit through a comic retelling me the story of a game I have spent nearly 4 years enjoying everytime I want to play a new game of Mass Effect 3.
All I require is a "you did this and this and this" on a summary screen so then I can dive right into Mass Effect 3. As I said I have no problem with the comic. I think the comic is a fantastic idea, I do have a problem with the comic being made mandatory for those that do not need the thing. So all I am asking is that the devs ensure that those importing a save game are given the option of skipping the thing completely so we can get on with playing Mass Effect 3.
Anyway I am going to shut up about the issue, I don't want to put any downers on what we have read so far. Hopefully Bioware will realise that a lot of people are not going to want to sit through the comic everytime they play the game and give us the option to skip it.

The roll seems unnecessary and I don't see how much benefit that could have unless it's cover to cover.
The ladder also seems like an excellent way to die. The ramps atleast served as cover sometimes. Either the ladders have to be covered from the front or they have to be out of the way to even be remotely usable.
I would love this but the way they're describing it is as a way of rolling away from rockets not cover to cover.

Pfffft. *swear removed* So things like romantic comedies, rap metal and mockcumentaries don't exist in your world? Or are you purposely ignoring that those genres didn't exist until there were products that came to define them?
Genres can be redefined and created. Neither you or anybody else can say they can't.

Probably I'm gonna be beaten to death for mentioning this game, but in Gears of War is used to dodge enemy's attacks, and is VERY usefulAlphaJarmel wrote...

And the stairs will probably be used out of combat.

Well the difference is in Gears, you can one shot an enemy with a shotgun by rolling up to them. In ME that is obviously not the case except for husks. The roll will be useful for them and maybe some of the other rushers but I would much prefer a cover to cover roll like in Uncharted.El_Chala_Legalizado wrote...

They're implying the ladders will be used to get to higher vantage points which helps to give a sense of verticality to the game. Which is good but it's also a great way of getting killed especially on the higher difficulties. If the ladders have no cover then they're going to be useless but if the front is covered then it should be fine. I can't imagine trying to get up a ladder in Insanity. My shields would be gone before I get halfway up.

Or have additional ass and back platings... I imagine it being an upgrade where - "Commander Shepard realised how much potential danger lays in climbing ladders. In attempts to prevent expsure to enemy fire while climbing ladders he reinforces his butt with additional ceramic platings: -25% dammage while climbing ladders and bending down for heat sinks."

Or you can play Vanguard and just Charge up there. Ladders are for lesser classes.
