There is on page 55 in GameInformer some unknown character for me. Any suggestions? It is up on right side. Obviously some woman, with some long knife (sword?), with some helmet (four red eyes). Is it a quarian?

Nah, quarians have three fingers, remember? It's probably some fancy Cerberus operative.

A Cerberus operative is the safest bet. I don't see batarians have such a state of the art technology. Which is clearly the case with that armor.

I'm pretty sure they will fail during their pathetic attempts to destroy you :D

THEY WILL DESTROY YOU.

Okay sorry I'm done. On-topic now. Cerberus looks pretty dangerous this time around, with the heavy infantry, the elite troops with Eviscerators, and several assassins trying to kill you. Even worse, those troops with Eviscerators seemed to be in a squad of three. But...but that's MY tactic!

I'm hoping that the Assassins will be boss fights. Havin them just acting as normal infantry would seem...cheap, to me. I mean, we know they have swords, pistols, and all sorts of other things. There is also art of one assassin dropping into Shepard's room. Even if they don't make all of them boss fights, if they build that into the game then that is bound to be one.

You get out of your armour and into casual uniform, before walking over to your desk to look at a holopad. There's an explosion, the glass above your bed shatters, and EDI activates the shielding that stops your air from being sucked out. Cerberus assassin. You grab a pistol from your desk (because really. If I were Shepard, I'd be paranoid enough to have about 5 guns in my room at all times) and have a boss fight against the assassin.

aaaaawesome.

I'd like to see some enemies use the Mattock.

It's not like all our weapons are exclusive to us.

Hahaha imagine if one of the enemies would shoot from the nuke warhead launcher at you.

I would actually like that. If it warns me first, like showing a bright light from the launcher so I can shoot the guy before he fires it.

It'd be a nice challenge from time to time.

Mass Effect was an amazing Shooter,  and nearly an RPG Lite by virtue of it's skill system

Mass Effect was an amazing shooter?  Even after I upgraded the weapon skills, it was not an amazing shooter.  It was a serviceable shooter at best and only if you invested your skill points to make it so.

ME2 was a much better shooter from top to bottom.  The only things that ME1 had for it that ME2 didn't improve on in terms of shooter gameplay were the removal of a passive cooling option and shifting to powers rather than mods, though it makes the game flow better than trying to stop the game to go into a menu and swap out a mod.

The weapons in ME2, even though they were "limited" had greater depth and performed noticeable differently.  There's basically a weapon for everyone and you can wield it based on your own proficiency.

The cover system in ME2 was superior as well.  An ME2 Pinnacle Station is a dream of mine because it would have been a much more entertaining ride with the ME2 combat system than it was when it highlighted the flaws of the system in the first game.

As a big shooter fan going back to the early 90's, I feel that what I've heard so far makes it sound like ME3 is taking a solid blueprint and adding in some more value.  If this also comes with greater RPG elements... great.  ME2 could have used more.  That's where ME1 had an advantage.  Not the shooter gameplay.

So I'm going to hit each one of these features.

1.  I'm pretty sure we all saw this coming.  Each species husk will probably fill a different role in combat.  I can't wait to see what the Krogan Husks will be like.
2.  So there's a silver lining?  I wonder what that means.  I've also heard that Shepard is on trial at the beginning of the game.  I can't wait to see how the intro to Mass Effect 3 is played out.
3.  As someone who played the Paragon route, I can see why TIM would be after Shepard, but it doesn't make much sense.  The Reapers are a huge threat to humanity.  Why waste extra resources to take down Shepard?  After all, Shepard is notorious for being a unstoppable force on the battlefield.
4.  I like how locational damage has been upgraded, but I'll wait to see how it plays out.  I will be looking forward to seeing how enemy tactics work now.
5.  I hope the larger battlefields will also include multiple tactical options.  Mass Effect 1 had some big battlefields, especially on uncharted planets and so did Mass Effect 2, but we'll see just what they mean as more is learned.  I really hope this means more verticality as well.  If London is included there should be plenty of tall buildings.
6.  I like that they're including the ability to pick up enemy weapons, but I don't expect to take advantage of that unless its a new weapon or attachment that I need to collect.  I can see an achievement for this already.
7.  I am always eager to hear what they mean by, "RPG aspects are going to be more integrated."  I hope there's more armor customization and more selections in general.  Also, I really liked the big skill trees of Mass Effect 1 so I am glad to see them back.  Mass Effect 1 had too much RPG in it and Mass Effect 2 had too much shooter in it.  I really hope Mass Effect 3 finds that middle ground.
8.  Weapon mods are back!  Hell yes.  I'm interested in what barrels will yield which effects.
9.  Well like I said, I am curious as to what they mean.  Hopefully, we will be able to color our guns as well.  I like having matching guns.
10.  The Virmire Survivor, Liara, Garrus, and James Sanders?  Liking the Mass Effect 1 squad a lot, but I am already fearing for Sanders' life.
11.  Curious as to what they mean.  I figure with Reapers attacking, there may be some infighting caused by opportunists.  Killing a lot of Krogans may come back to bite us in the ass.
12.  Ladders make me happy.  It kind of reinforces my hope for bigger, more vertical battlefields.
13.  Not entirely sure what this one means, but I hope there aren't any squadmates who are unique to people who had their team die.
14.  I really hope the Rachni are a turning point in the battle, but I do fear that if they were influenced by Reapers once, it could happen again.
15.  I really hope to see what posiibilities there are for finshing the game.  It should be very interesting to see how it all plays out.
16.  Nice that we start off at ME2 status and go from there.  I can't wait to see how all the great abilities from ME 2 evolve through ME3.  I'd like to see some Sentinel Power Armor that kicks ass.

Anyways, thats what I have to say about that.  Can't wait to pick up my copy.

For enemies I'd like to see Vanguards/Biotics that use; Charge, Shockwave (like Vasir's), Warp, Stasis as well as using stuff like Pull and Throw to launch objects at us.

Engineer types; Incinerate, Combat Drone, Sabotage, Damping fields, Cloak (like the geth hunters) and either Cryo Blast or Neural Shock (similar to Stasis, disabling allies for few seconds).

Generally would be nice to see enemy biotics/techs that have more than one power like they did in ME2.

The removal of mods did suck but with Frictionless Material whatever version you would be able to shoot away and never overheat be it a shotgun or Sniper Rifle. For ME3 I hope this can be avoided. It made ME1 terribly easy by the time those mods started to drop and really made the difficulty easier.

It updated now with a comic preview, with a new date of 4/13/11 on the bottom.

There's more space down the webpage, I guess that reveals via this website are going to be a regular occurrance?

Sweet. :D

Anyone here seen the image from the GI article of Ashley's new look? Kinda a merge of Miranda and Ashley.

Also I must say I am ecstatic to see Liara is back as a squad member.

I am afraid no one knows, originally the date said 11/04/11 as if to say something would happen today.  A lot of people speculated they were going to release the preview on the net today instead they did the Evolution comic preview.

About the only thing we can say about the 13th April is that Game Informer are going to do something Mass Effect 3 related I am afraid.

They appear to be doing what they did with their Portal 2 Cover page/news thingy. Ever couple of days they release some info/screens. Probably wont be any more info than what's in the GI article itself, but thats the case.

I can't wait for Mass Effect 3!!! I been like dying for more Mass Effect, I may finish up some new playthroughs by than. I am busy too now and than, I am not always playing. XD Mass Effect is my favorite game of all time beside that it were the Socom franchise, I thank you much Bioware for the amazing Mass Effect series!!! I hope they continue on when Mass Effect 3 is complete.

I am happy there are going to be new and old things as well characters from the previous games I am glad of that. I am curious though how Mass Effect will turn out. I am sure Mass Effect will be the best of the best of the best, I hope they be. I have a feeling it will be the game of the year for 2011 or 2012. I guess we will have to wait and see, I hope things be well.

Just putting this out there, but the GI article mentioned that there would be Harvester husks which seems to indicate that non-intellegent species can also be husk-ified. Now put that information together with the epic Reaper/Maw battle sequence....

Can anyone say Thresher Husk as a possible boss?

Now that would be insane.

I wonder if Bioware is tweaking the cover system as well. You always knew a fight was coming from the walls and junk lying around.

This all sounds great. I'm wondering about the cerberus thing.. First they want you alive to save the galaxy and now that the galaxy is under attack, they want to kill you? Huh?

Also, no mention of Tali? i'd be very surprised if she wasn't in it!

To the people that have the actual Game Informer issues: Did you buy or did it arrive in the mail? I'm asking because I subscribe to the magazine and it seems like they take forever to get to my house. I really want to see these pictures everyone's talking about.

Can you comment on Enemy Tactics?

I'm heading out for coffee right now... but maybe later!

Sooo... one thing we're focusing a lot more on in ME3 is enemy composition. We have a handful of roles that enemies fit into. So, take husks for example - when fighting husks you generally don't want to be in cover. They're pretty mobile, and can do terrible things to you in close range. So, when engaging them you generally want to be able to move around a lot. They fall into our "cover buster" role.

In a given fight we might combine husks with a "suppressor" type of enemy. Suppressors try to keep you pinned in cover. With both of those types in one fight, as a player you have to decide which is the larger threat. Do you send your squadmates against the Husks? Do you try to find a position where you're more protected from the suppressor enemy and take on the Husks? Or do you run headlong towards the suppressor in the back, and try to take it down quickly while avoiding the Husks?

Obviously that's just an example, and normally a fight is comprised of more than just two different roles (additionally, "suppressor" / "cover buster" combinations are pretty damned hard to fight). So you might be able to see how just with interesting composition you can get extremely dynamic experiences that can vary significantly from attempt to attempt.

This is also not going into any of the synergistic elements of some of the enemies either... some enemies have ability sets that help or modify other enemies, making them potentially a *lot* tougher... if you let them...

That's interesting. Did you factor in how the different class powers will affect these battles? Take Vanguard for example: he can just ignore the cover busters and charge dirrectly into suppressors.
