As for rogue gloves, they'd only be of interest to a rogue Hawke, which I doubt would be the case here.
I always annoy myself when I stumble into a trap and automagically hit 'F9' rather than taking the suitable penalty for my recklessness (especially when I was the rogue who should've been proceeding more cautiously). But the lure of XP is so great…

I've still yet to conclude why, upon tearing their pants, the occupants of Kirkwall see fit to seal them inside increasingly-more-complicated-to-unlock chests. Are they embarasssed? Ashamed? Do they fear they'll be stolen by ruthless bands of mercenary tailors? Who knows.

I am more interested, and disturbed, by the fact that Hawke collects the torn pants, even going so far as to loot them off fresh corpses.
I imagine the pants are just fine until Hawke, in a hoarding frenzy, tears them off the dead body. Disturbing indeed.

This. Especially useless if you're using Varric to pick locks. Nobody but Hawke can wear them.Apathy1989 wrote...
Generally there is nothing special thankfully. Just free xp, a few silvers and rogue specific gear are the highlights.

Clearly, there is a rash of pants thefts occurring over the period of several years. The citizens of Kirkwall, fearful of theft of their pants, take steadily more drastic steps to safeguard their pants as the years roll on.
Back on topic, unlocking chests and disarming traps are little experience point nuggets. Passing them by would hamper your leveling speed somewhat.

Also, how many epic fights did you do in Act I only to get 80xp, and then open a chest for 100 and two traps for 100 each? Rogues = good damage and free gold and xp. I can't see why you'd want to leave 'em behind. Hell, Varric doesn't even need Dexterity. Give him Cunning and Constitution, with a smattering of Willpower for stamina, and you're good to go.

Locked chests have all kinds of goodies. If you don't tote around a rogue with at least 40 cunning in Act III, for example, you'll also miss out on things like the 15gp chest which is behind a set of traps that can only be disabled by the aforementioned rogue.

its not a matter of wether they good or not , just the fact on a second or 3rd run you like to try new characters and try something diffrent. i agree with your post.
i notice someone mentions a mod to unlock all chests , ill get that.
I dont think its worth worrying about items or gold from chest , not missing much there . Xp is the biggest thing though im not sure how much it would all add up to. If the XP is the problem you could always add some in the console

BTW, to the poster that mentioned not investing in Varric's dex over cunning...you lose a lot of damage early game as Varric lacks auto crit abilities. I know, I always take Varric to 30 cun by end of act 1 and to 40 during act 2 if Hawke is not a rogue. His damage output (or lack thereof relative to if I had taken dex to 30) is very apparent vs the Rock Wraith which is really the only time I miss the extra damage. Isabella or Rogue Hawke on the other hand do get auto crit abilities so heavy cun investment is okay.
