Shep gets eaten by the giant Thresher Maw at the end if you fail to upgrade him with extra speed. That's the bad ending. He trips, turns around and sees a giant mouth with giant sharp teeth opening up to swallow him. If his background is the one where he survived Thresher Maw attacks, he has a flash back and you see all of that happening and then he gets eaten.

Perhaps the "Honored Matres" are really the Reapers.

I honestly don't think the Thresher Maw is even necessarily "giant".

Anyone have the Thresher Maw Codex entry handy? Doesn't it say that they're exact size is never really known, nor what the lower parts of their bodies look like, as they never entirely leave the ground?

This could just be the first time we see the entirety of a thresher maw. And knowing this, we may never want to fight one again.

I do believe a thresher maw can go as far as hurt a reaper I doubt it can defeat one. In the GI issue it even said the thresher maw got the upper hand but only for a moment.

I'm gonna lol if Thresher Maws end up being genetically created by a pre-Prothean species to combat the Reaper invasion and the Protheans seeded them on various planets before they were wiped out along Relay hotspot planets in order help the next generation survive.

true, for all we know they can be very long. But I have a feeling this one was a colossal one or "the" colossal threasher maw

I'm picturing a Thresher Maw squeezing a Reaper like a boa constrictor, then bursting and having it's acid do heavy damage to the Reaper. This allows Shepard's forces to finish it off.

Given that thresher maw acid can penetrate kinetic barriers, a ginormous one actually hurting a Reaper is at least plausible. No way it would win of course.

Yeah this event on it's own is strange at best thresher maw vs the reapers and the maw wins but as mod said we don't have context. Was their reaper comming down with a cold so bad it couldn't see straight? Or was in wounded and looking for a place to lie down and the maw hopped up and ate it? We'll have to see but if this scene isn't totally plausible and sound I'm so gonna hate it.

In the GI article, it states that after the thresher maw drags the Reaper underground, Shepard sees lasers being shot from out of the ground; after which, Shepard is thinking it's time to get out of there, Which to me, indicates that the reaper annihilated the thresher maw.
