Hello
I'm on my second playthrough, this time as a rogue.
My first was with a shield warrior and since I was always the one charging in first I had no problems with party AI.
However, as a rogue, my party AI is acting very annoying.
As a rogue, I do not wan't any alpha strikes on me, so whenever I see a group, I wanna stealth and sneak behind, while the rest engages. But, whenever I get close to enemies in stealth, my group just stands behind with weapons drawn and refuses to engage by themselves, not until I'm hit, or they are hit will they start do anything. They won't lift a finger until anyone has been hit, doesn't matter if 100 enemies have charged in and surrounded them.
This is very annoying cause if they aren't close enough to actually aggro the enemies, nothing happens, and if they were to aggro the enemies, I have to wait until the enemies have charged my party and actually hit one of them.
That means I have to either engage myself and have my party run in from far behind or I have to take over a party member and send them in. Sure, this is fine for some fights, but it's annoying to have to do it every single encounter.
Is there some tactic command I have missed? I have tried a few different ones but nothing seems to break this behaviour.
Tips on party AI, engaging enemies.

Take a look at their tactics screen, what is their behaviour set to in the top right?
If it's set to "Default", then they won't engage the enemies unless they are attacked first or you tell them to attack. If you set it to "Aggressive" they should attack automatically.

Party members won't engage an enemy until they are attacked or the currently controlled character initiates an attack. Leave your rogue stealthed in position, take manual control of your warrior and have him attack, then retake control of your rogue and hit'em where it hurts.

It sounds to me like the OP needs to change the Default Tactics setting and spend some time working with the Combat Tactics screen in more detail.
Plus I wonder if (s)he is (or is not) using the party hold key (H - or running person/hand) under the character portraits.

Or you can set a tactic up so that they attack any target that you have. That is what I do. This also helps them focus fire on who you are attacking. Then what you can do is just target (but, not attack) an enemy and they should move in to attack your target. I've discovered that the hard way when I accidentally targeted an enemy and then my team moved in when I didn't want them to. I'm not sure if you have to change their behavior at all to get that to work as was said by an earlier poster, but try it out and see if it works for you.

It was the aggressive behaviour thing! Thank you! Never considered that!
Now it seems to work alot better, almost considererd rolling a DW warrior so I could just charge in

The other behaviors are kind of iffy for me. I did start off trying to specify different behaviors depending upon the type of character (ranged classes, for example, using "Passive"), but it was frustrating to notice them sitting there doing nothing in the middle of a battle when even by the rules of the set behavior, they should have been doing something. I've been using Aggressive for everybody ever since the Ogre battle and it's just better. I micromanage my characters so much, anyway, that the only thing I want it guaranteed that they'll do is attack something when they see it.

I always had everyone on default I guess when playing warrior. Didn't notice anything since I was always first in and that way started the battle.

I had the same problem when I took control of Zevran to scout enemy positions. I suppose setting everyone to aggressive or using attack target of my controlled character described above would be the way to go. It would be more efficient to have an aggressive/defensive toggle button though. At the moment I never have enough combat orders on the xbox 360 version.

The only other really notable setting is Ranged, I think, since it makes them pull out their ranged weapon if they're not in melee. Default, Aggressive, and Ranged is really all you need, heh.

Try setting them all on aggressive and to attack your tanks target. Have your tank attack nearest visible or nearest visible class. Have the tank auto-taunt and then you can play your rogue free-style. The party will be ai controlled. You can also set the party to self heal as well.
Wynne is great for this since she just buffs, heals and staff attacks so complex strategies are not required. She also have quite a bit of tactic slots.

Yea, I have pretty self-sustaining tactic setups, it was just that behaviour thing I was missing
