"Sacred Heart" amulet from Alistair, yay! Wait...it's basically the same as the other amulets? And no codex entry? Nothing at ALL to say what it looks like? Just a name? Oh...ok, that's far less cool. *sells to next merchant*

I remember wearing the Reflection amulet in DAO just because of the item description, because the healing boost certainly didn't work. But there are gamers who play for the action who don't stop to smell the sprig of Andraste's Grace, and gamers who play for the cool details...

I was the same with Reflection. It took place of the Warden's Oath around my Cousland's neck! However, I never got rid of the latter.

Ah yes, Warden's Oath, the Cousland family sword and shield, Adaia's boots for Tabris, the Aeducan Shield...so many Items with sentimental value... *sigh* :)

I think the only item in DA2 I attached ANYsort of sentimental value to was Wesley's Shield, which wasn't even Hawke's! Too bad Aveline accused me of selling it, when I'd actually put it into storage >.<

I like the new unique items titles. Like "Three Wolf Boon", it still makes me chuckle. Although the best one wasn't even an item description it was the Act 3 Slaver Gang name of "Reining Men". I laughed so hard and long I nearly choked.

I like some of the unique titles. :) I just miss the descriptions.

Oh carp. I was going to leave the shield in storage. Now I'll feel obliged to carry the stupid thing around. Daft Aveline!

Cousland family sword and shield: I carried them with me everywhere *wipes tear from eye* After I felt my character had grown close enough to other party members, I'd let them use the sword and shield from time to time. BONDING THROUGH OBJECTS!

Bonding through objects, rofl! XD So true!

Oh, and don't feel obliged to carry Av's shield everywhere! Just make sure she has it equipped when you give her-- *glances at No Spoilers Warning* --give...her...a roughly shield-shaped gift. :)

It's sad for both FO3 and DA2 that item descriptions were lost, since they were a good way to detail the gameworld, and sprinkle humor throughout.

I completely agree, op... I really miss the item descriptions too. AND I also miss having rings that had names instead of Ring...

I miss them too. Some of the items (like Alistair's runic worry token, Anders' fox pendant) added little bits about the characters that never came up otherwise.

I agree completely! It made me feel like I was handling an actual piece of Thedas history or lore; it may be because I'm an information junkie, but I really enjoyed reading all the item descriptions and the unique names of armors, weapons, amulets, rings and whatever.

I hope it returns in DA3.

Yup. Missed those too. Just one of many little details removed to get the game on to shelves and money into pockets.

Same...I loved the description for the Keening Blade:

This blade makes a eerie wail, just on the edge of hearing, whenever it cuts the air. Twined runes are carved into its surface, hinting at the enchantments bound inside.

I mean seriously, is there anything remotely that cool and legendary sounding in DA:2? The same for Lifegiver, and the Summer Sword. Even something as simple as spellfury just adds character to an item.

While very funny, I kind of also think its an inside joke of them laughing at us... what designer actually though it was a good idea to have men parachuting from the sky in waves to attack us?

Hey, I'm a console-gamer who plays RPGs that people might consider "action RPGs" (I'm a fan of the Tales series, for instance) and *I* miss the item descriptions, too. I don't always read them, but when I do, they're a treat. I don't miss them enough for them to be a big complaint about DA2, but they totally affected me when they were there--my City Elf Warden wore her wedding ring the entire time I played her. I couldn't bear to get rid of it even if it meant she couldn't wear another ring that would actually give her stats.

The lack of descriptions is a pity. I also missed the item illustration in the inventory, now we have generic sword silhouette, generic helmet silhouette etc. Very dull.

I missed them too, and also thought that the somewhat "baroque" interface added a little extra to these descriptions.

Word :).
Unfortunately a lot of little things that made the original feel alive and epic were cut from DA2, most likely because of the short development time. The game still turned out tolerable (except for the bloody bugs! Patch your horribly broken game already for crying out loud!), but I really, really hope they will take their time with the next one and add little details like this again.

Thats what happens when you try to appeal to a broader audience that don't want depth or don't play these sort of games to begin with.

I totally agree.... The item descriptions in Origins provided some of the best laughs I got outside of Oghren, Morrigan, and Shale. I remember the descriptions on one of the liquor gifts said, "It tastes like burning!" That made my day.

Yes, THANK YOU! I do miss the descriptions so. Some of them were so humorous. I too kept the Warden's Oath and Reflection on my character for most of the game, not so much for their stats, but because they felt very symbolic to me.

I found about 10 "amulets", 10 "rings", 10 "belts", all with the same icon. Made it less easier to decide which item to pick. You had to move your cursor over all the amulets, rings, belts, just to look at the stat bonuses. The item rating system is useless because the decision is made by the player and they can choose which item is better. Sometimes the rating system can get the ratings absolutely wrong. To add to this, you can't manage all of your team's equipment in the same place like you could in Origins (at camp). Fail streamlining.

On topic: The item descriptions were short and didn't take long to read. Some of them were quite humorous and some of them gave you a background story. I don't know why Bioware decided to cater for people who are too lazy to read. Maybe they got lazy themselves or maybe they ran out of time (which is likely the case).

Overall, the inventory system got worse.

Edit: The only new feature that I like is the ability to move items into a "junk" section and the ability to sell all the junk with one click.
