Does anyone know why your eyes appear to have halos around them when you look at your reflection in a foggy/steamy mirror?  The halos are quite subtle, and are usually white, but mine have been black lately. :/

If anyone hasn't noticed this effect, check in the mirror after you've had a shower.  You may notice it more at greater distances from the mirror.  I literally get this EVERY time.  I have no idea how this works, and I can't find any explanation through google.

EDIT: It basically looks like this, albeit more subtle.  (I must say, I'm rather frustrated that the only visualisation of this I could find wasn't on a scientific website)

Your eyes have died, and gone to heaven. Contact medical assistance immediately.

I have no idea :(

In fact, I think there's a similar effect when you look at lights through a foggy window (e.g. street lights as seen through a fogged up car window). I think... I haven't been in a car for a while.

Really?  I'm pretty sure it's just an optical illusion - surely I cannot be the only one who gets this!

I'm gonna try this tonight when i get a bath. I always fix my hair as soon as I'm out and have to clean the fog off the mirror but never noticed what you're talking about o.0 I'll have to pay close attention to my eyes I guess.

Nope, no lasik. Really, no one sees this after a shower? I assume there must be something odd about my eyes or visual cortex then :/

I've told you it's Korrok trying to break into this dimension.

Well, he's sure taking his sweet time ;).   I've noticed this since I was a child - I assumed everyone had this... until I decided to google out of curiosity a few hours ago :/

It's the eye-pandas. Don't worry about them, they're just trying to propagate the species. In your corneas.

What kind of lights are in your bathroom? You might be getting a unique reflection that no one else is getting because of the type or angle of your lighting. Do you shower in multiple places like the gym and notice it everywhere?

I've noticed it in every bathroom I've ever showered in.  I'll have to double-check, but I'm pretty sure I see a similar ring-halo effect around street lights at night, when looking through a foggy car window.

Hmm, maybe I should see an eye doctor... but I have seen this my entire life and never had problems.  It's only now when I look in a shower-fogged mirror that the halos look dark instead.

Yes, yes you should. Now that I've read over it again, it sounds like this glary thing my sister's eyes had. They can coat glasses with stuff to combat it, or something.

Hmm, I'll phone them up tomorrow...  Even though I only really see this in a steamy mirror, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to at least ask them.

Since the first picture was a just a photoshop, the following is sort of what each "eye-halo" looks like, except the radius is vastly smaller and eye-socket sized.
