Society (everyone, including Shepard) views them as females

Shepard also views them as monogendered beings, and not female.

You're contradicting yourself.

Dammit! Im confusing myself. You'd be too if you were answering to three different people at the same time  : P

They use the terms themselves.  Argument invalid

EVIDENCE: Consider's Aria's "Patriarch" joke.

are you not understanding in purpose? I meant that Asari did not see themselves female before encountering the Salarian race and seeing they had separate sexes. The "Patriarch" joke is part of them seeing themselves as females because that's how they were raised, since other species view them as females. They just went along with it, but they are not females.

No one here gives a hoot what the Asari think they are.

Honey, I understand the cultural thing completely, but you need to get this through your head: if something looks, acts, and sounds like the female of your species, you're going to be attracted to it if you like girls.  Biology.  Duh.

You... DO realize the whole asari thing was Bioware's clever way of duping people like you into not fretting over teh ebul gayness, right?

Pretty much this. <_<

Though, after ME1, I was willing to accept the "Asari aren't really female" thing and move on, so long as neither female nor male Shepard could engage in a same-sex romance with any species that actually has males and females. So long as it's equal, right?

But then Kelly Chambers. :pinched:

The minute female Shepard could engage in actual same-sex content but male Shepard could not, my illusion of equality was shattered. Oh, how bitter reality tastes! How I hope this will be rectified in ME3!

We're talking about what Asari are to humans, not to themselves.

You miss the entire point of the game when it's about having fun because you make your story with your character. What if I want a gay character? Why can't I have one? Especially when I could in Dragon Age?

You can't have children with aliens( except Asari) and with Miranda.

I can picture it now. Jacob starts hitting on Shepard throughout the duration of ME3. Unless you expel him from your squad you end up with an unskippable graphic love scene.

It's simple, they've cured homosexuality by the time ME takes place.

They did not. There is at least one gay character in one of the books. And since practically all women in the ME universe are sleeping with Asari (judging by the LotSB videos) female homosexual behavior is extremly common.

Had to laugh. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie] Felt appropriately bad about it though.

Going for the exaggeration of the century award?

Anyway, if a female non-Asari has relations with an Asari wouldn't that make it xenophilia before anything else?

Topic should be over by now.
Need I clear this up again? They didn't want to take the risk, they dropped it in ME and don't plan on it because of cowardice. They still stuck with the bisexual alien girls because that's apparently more popular than actual s/s romances.

Maybe, but since the Asari are hyper feminine from a human poit of view (they show all the characteristicsof adult human females, in some cases even exaggerated) I still consider it homosexual xenophilia .

And yes I was exaggerating, I know.

I'm pretty sure the alliance have decided that no male/female can be gay in their rank :police:

Asari are pretty much human save for the blue skin and short, slicked tentacle heads.

There isn't much alien about their figure.

Shepard cannot be gay, because Bioware hates gay people! Boom!

Let's not insult the gay community here, even if you are just joking. If Commander Shepard can be gay in ME3, I'm fine with it, but it can't be any pre-existing squadmate. A new character, like James Sanders, is fine with me.

It's just about sales; Commander Shepard on his knees sucking off Jacob's man stick would never sell.
