It's ruling out an entire group of people for no reason whatsoever with added hypocrisy to boot. What's cheaper than little imagination and a "Sure." from the devs?
My God, it's not like there is some sort of barrier preventing homosexuals from playing. They have access to the same game as everybody else. The fact that their isn't a specific romance appealing to their sexual interests isn't some sort of wrong-doing on Biowares part. You don't see this sense of righteous indignation coming from other groups with specific romance requests.
Love it or hate it, developers don't owe the community explanations for their actions related to their games. The same applies to pretty much any component of a game or decision to move a franchise in a certain direction. I doubt many of the people upset about decisions related to DA2 gameplay will get answers example.
I don't think gays would find it pandering or insulting if Bioware let them enjoy the final instalment of the series to the full extent that everyone else has been able to until presently. You may find it to be a minor part of the game, but most people- those who actually bother to post in these threads- clearly do not. The romantic subplot plays a large part into how you enjoy the game. It gets you involved on a deeper level. It matters.
And by this justification, it seems you would be prefectly content is Bioware
decided to offer only gay and lesbien romance options, so long as it was
a financially viable option for them to pursue? If your arguement is
that their only responsibility is to make a succesful product, and not to make social innovations, I can begin to see from your point of view.
However, Bioware already showed it's customer base it had some balls with Dragon Age2, and their press release replying to the 'striaght male gamer'. It's time they showed the same balls here. Companies do, believe it or not, have social responsibilities. Not every company takes care of them, but a large part of the reason Bioware has a good reputation is that they've never been afraid to raise the bar. Seeing them fall short here, when they've already come this far would be nothing but a disapointment.
