My God, it's not like there is some sort of barrier preventing homosexuals from playing. They have access to the same game as everybody else. The fact that their isn't a specific romance appealing to their sexual interests isn't some sort of wrong-doing on Biowares part. You don't see this sense of righteous indignation coming from other groups with specific romance requests.

Love it or hate it, developers don't owe the community explanations for their actions related to their games. The same applies to pretty much any component of a game or decision to move a franchise in a certain direction. I doubt many of the people upset about decisions related to DA2 gameplay will get answers example.

The reason a male bi/gay option should be given to ME3 is because again it's an RPG that allows us to make our character they way we want them to be. So why can't my character as a male be gay? Because of the limitations the developers give the players and that's not right since that obviously shows that developers in some form are saying. 'Lesbians are interesting but gays are not' really. It's obvious the developers are targeting males that go 'Oh there's lesbian scenes? This game is awesome!' I'm not gay nor bi but I understand that there are people out there that want to play as themselves and some of them can't because they don't have the option in ME when that's part of the appeal of the game.

Sure, why not? Seriously, all this whining about a hero not being able to be gay. How about those soldiers of Thebe? The whole (male) Olympic games are nothing more but a semi-erotic worship of the male body.

What's wrong when a MaleShep would be able to romance another male character, especially considering that a Lesbian Shep (with Kelly) is available. That seems like catering to straight males that think lesbians are hot and gays are filthy.

Just don't, never force a romance. Like BioWare did with FemShep/Jacob and MaleHawke/Anders. That's kind of unsettling, regardless whether it is ******- or heterosexual.

this is a shooting and rpg game of a story about saving the galaxy, leave your personal w/e at home. Buy sims or dragon age games if you want to be a bi,gay, lesbian and such. Maybe in a future mass effect game they will inplant it but it just wont be in these series, I would honestly find it distubring and weird even if its hinted at me,idc if some are who they choose to be and like,I just wouldnt like it if its hinted at me that a guy like my character in a game, just move along with it, its gets annoying how some people keep posting the same crap everytime.

Exactly!  Leave your personal w/e at home!  Buy 99% of the other games available if you want to be a hetero!  I would honestly find it disturbing and weird even if it's hinted at me.  I don't care if some are who they choose to be.  I just wouldn't like it if it's hinted that a girl likes my character in a game, just move along with it, it gets annoying how some people keep posting the same crap everytimes.

Bingo.

I didn't read through all 7 pages of this thread, but did anyone else bring this up?   Maybe the writers wanted to make Shep hetero...wild thought I know.

I also liked ReconTeam's post...well done.

As far as the children theory goes, I kind of doubt it.   What if I played and chose not to romance anyone, there is always that option.

Bingo.

The fling with Kelly was totally straight. Liara, by human standards, too.

I don't think gays would find it pandering or insulting if Bioware let them enjoy the final instalment of the series to the full extent that everyone else has been able to until presently. You may find it to be a minor part of the game, but most people- those who actually bother to post in these threads- clearly do not. The romantic subplot plays a large part into how you enjoy the game. It gets you involved on a deeper level. It matters.

And by this justification, it seems you would be prefectly content is Bioware
decided to offer only gay and lesbien romance options, so long as it was
a financially viable option for them to pursue? If your arguement is
that their only responsibility is to make a succesful product, and not to make social innovations, I can begin to see from your point of view.

However, Bioware already showed it's customer base it had some balls with Dragon Age2, and their press release replying to the 'striaght male gamer'. It's time they showed the same balls here. Companies do, believe it or not, have social responsibilities. Not every company takes care of them, but a large part of the reason Bioware has a good reputation is that they've never been afraid to raise the bar. Seeing them fall short here, when they've already come this far would be nothing but a disapointment.

Bioware did comment on the situation, and the response was rather hypocritical considering the abundance of F/F content.

I don't feel entitled to content by any means, but I should be able to roleplay a Shepard however I like. I think saying Shepard can't be what you want him/her to be takes away from ME as an RPG. What's the point of making Shepard look like me or in any other way than the default if he can't be what you want? What's the point of the dialogue system?

Bioware make Shepard be the players character not the other way around and as such players should have a right to have their Shepard just as they did with their character in Fable and DA2 be gay/bi/lesbian. This is my Shepard and I want him to be gay, why can't he? Just because is the only reasoning I've heard so far.

wait femshep can be gay but not dudeshep, kind of funny people are telling me my Shepard can not be what I want them to be. Female, male, Renegade or pargon, I play my characters how I want them to be and I'm not going to take Biowares god awful excuse that they wanted to make a PG 13 game like setting.

I want my Shepard to be an elf, with a bow shooting rainbow laser beams. I can't? Darn you Bioware for taking ME away from RPG. Seriously, spoiled much? Go play Planescape: Torment, BG, KOTOR or something - they all had great straight romances and no one complained.  Ppl these days always find something to moan about, even if 99% of them are straight IRL and want homosexuality in their games just for the sake of being. Better that romances are fewer, but more developed, fun and have integrity, than spreading "Shepard Love" all over the place. I've had enough of the feeling that Normandy was a pimp ride in ME2, let alone seeing Shepard hit on anything that moves in ME3, be it male or female. Next thing ppl would want that Shepard should hit on krogans.

Wait for everyone to try (and desperately) prove you wrong by somehow attempting to make Asari seem something other than female.

It has to make sense in the setting, obviously. It's what Shepard THINKS (within believability, of course) and not what s/he can do.

Maybe they want equality in the games?  I doubt most straight people who are in favor of adding s/s romances are just trying to ****.  If so, there's a million other things to **** about, most with funnier reactions from people.  That being said, if a gay player can play a straight character, why can't a straight character play a gay character?

Nobody's asking for something ridiculously out of context for the universe (or, if they are, they need to STFU.)  The Mass Effect universe has gay characters- Hendel from the books, for example, and from the looks of it, possibly Preitor Gavorn- so a gay Shepard wouldn't be jarring as would, say, a rainbow-shooting elf.  I think what most people are calling BS on is the double standard.  FemShep can be straight, bi, or a lesbian; MShep can only be straight or, if you're one of those insisting that the asari aren't female, asarisexual.

JMO.

Fine have it this way - ALL Shepard's companions are straight (except for ambiguous Liara and promiscuous Kelly) and THEY don't want to hit on same gendered Shepard. Deal with it B).

Some probably would, as would some straights. Again you're speaking in terms as if you're being denied something, which is flat out not the case. Such a companies motive must be to make a successful product, not push social agendas or argue politics, especially when in doing so they sacrifice time and effort making a better game. I'd question their integrity as a developer if not for the fact that different teams work on different projects.

Now I for one didn't realize it was a ballsy move to behave in a condescending manner towards you're customers and the bulk of your fan-base. The customers which happen to be the reason behind success or failure as a company. People, the majority of people, want Bioware to raise the bar in the standards and quality of their games. Some would argue DA2 did the exact opposite. Most don't visit these forums or even know who Gaider is, let alone his politically correct statements and said controversy. They care about the game, not IRL political correct non-issues. Raising the bar and showing integrity as a developer is making a better game and not taking advantage of your core fanbase. To do that they shouldn't pander to small groups for the sake of non-issue IRL causes; which are simply free-press for little effort and a means to ensure lawyers won't  hassle you someday. If it is about "doing good" they should be donating to a charity or something rather than playing the game of political correctness and making some noise for the media.

That's perfectly fine.

I've said multiple times that I don't care what Bioware does or does not include in terms of romance options for ME3 at this point.

I'll just repeat here something that was said by devs some time ago on that matter - actual gay auditory is a minority and it's not really profitable to double work the romances to cater them. Probably Mass Effect budget is big enough as it is to pay extra to writers and celebrity voice actors.

Gay romances aren't double work. Far from it. There will never be a gay-exclusive romances and whatever difference there will be for the different genders romancing some bi person will be minimal. A few extra lines and that's it.
