They could have done it without too much handwaving. You don't see his execution, do you ( how should I know?). Some pro - Howe guards/executioner could have helped him escape. And re. the epilogue card where he dies - Anders et al. survived somehow, too.
And rak, your explanation is of course the best/most logical: the guard was too afraid of Nate to rat him out.

I just love how they cut the idea of a Nate DLC because he could be killed in Awakening, but have Leliana show up even though she could be killed in Origins.

Oh well. I'll take what little we see of him in DA2.

Perhaps the devs felt it would be too much handwaving for us to swallow by having Leliana AND Anders AND Nathaniel... It would have been a bit much.

Ah, Nate... Even if Bioware doesn't let you come back, you'll always be the perfect LI in my head. No screwball retconned personality changes for you there.<3

Edit: Not to say I'm happy that it was Nate that didn't make the cut. Ugh, how depressing.

Eh, I'd swap Nate for Sebastian any time. In fact the vague hint that it might him in the DLC is why I preordered DA2 in the first place.

Fangirlism gets me in the pocket again.

You don't see him die iirc - he gets marched off by the guard. I think if it took five wardens to catch him, one measly guard would have no hope. Dying at the Keep - eh, he could have escaped with Anders ;-)

See I retconned that in three seconds - it could have been done.

But seriously, his background in Kirkwall, his involvement with the Wardens and this mysterious Deep Roads expedition he mentions in DA2 - it screams continuation to me ... or maybe wishful thinking...

I guess this means we won't be seeing him again. I imagine we will be stuck with Stroud and his stupid mustache if we want to learn any Grey Warden secrets. I am taking this waaaay too hard. *sigh*
