Third set of Nate sketches from Jakface:

(Original link: http://jakface.tumbl...ostume-have-the)

Love leopard skin Nate, but the over-the-shoulder look in the upper left here...yeah baby... ;)

OK, just checked the mail...guess what arrived? My calendar...and my Nate sketch!

Jakface must be a mind-reader, because I was given the exact one I was swooning over in my previous post above (upper left).

I'm seriously grinning like an idiot. Someone slap me! :D

/slap! Well, you asked me to ;-)

Those little cards are great aren't they? I'm going to pop mine in a frame I think - make sure it doesn't get lost somewhere.

I've just discovered how to create gif in photoshop - I feel something Natey coming on.

Whew! I needed that. Thanks Avilia!

And yes! The cards are wonderful. I keep gazing at mine every couple of minutes. (I'm pathetic, I know...)

Something Natey? Yay!! Can't wait!

Buntie chats with Nate:

Linky

Be aware I have a rather odd sense of humour :wizard:

I've linked it because its not DA2 related but taken from Awakenings.

So, I'm curious, did you have any preconceptions about Nathaniel before Awakenings? As far as I recall, he was revealed as a Howe out for revenge before the expansion came out and many spoke of killing him with quite a bit of glee. What were your thoughts about him?

I had to think about that one.  I'm a bad person to answer this because I'm pretty sure I bought Awakening and Origins at the same time (good old Steam).  I can't remember though..blasted old age.  I didn't care for Awakenings much at first but it grew on me.  It took me ages to actually finish a run and see what all the fuss was about the ending.

Anyway - I didn't have any preconceptions because prior to that I didn't really come to the forums, or know about them in fact.   I know I never felt the need to kill him.  Seems a bit silly to kill someone for what their parent did.  Plus he was so cute with his "drinking wine and chasing skirts".  I'll admit I was a bit more attached to Anders initially but Nate snuck up on me.

I should also add I don't play Couslands and my rp'ing is minimal in most cases.  I probably stood my elf there, peering past the bars thinking "you look a little pale mate, come on out and get some air" or more likely "you'd be my rogue then, wonder if its bow or daggers?".

His intention to kill the Warden didn't worry me - my girls are usually Zev romancers so they're used to cute men trying to kill them.  Plus we know the Warden wears teflon undies - makes her impossible to kill. ^_^

I liked him almost right away. I liked the fact that he had spirit, and that he didn't need or want anything from the Hero of Ferelden.  His voice was sexy and held a hint of menace- like a mini Loghain or something. It made me want to know more about him.

I don't think I ever came close to killing him, even though he sassed my Cousland upon meeting her. I think he just had some repressed anger- nothing a good spanking wouldn't have fixed. Posted Image

When I heard about a Howe, I was like, "Rawr, where is my murder knife". But I also knew that was the reaction the writers wanted from us, and that once we got to know him, we would become bffs. And we did, more so for me after playing DA2

I think I considered murderknifing him with a Cousland, but my first run through Awakening was with my WC ending Dalish, so he got conscripted. And then I was pleasantly surprised by him, so he's survived every playthrough.

And one of my favorite lines from that conversation is "Some of my best friends have tried to kill me."

Well, I guess there's no harm in saying how it literally went down.

(Crimsy's house -- Sometime in the PM hours before Awakening -- Checking the computer for updates on Awakening)

Crimsynn: Hmm? New character? Nathaniel H...? Well don't trail off on me you piece o' crap. Full names are good, ya'know? (Clicks on the "World Update" tab. Scrolls down the "Characters" list and clicks on...)

Crimsynn: Nathaniel HOWE?! (Chokes) No way! I'm not having a Howe in my party-- that's suicide. I *killed* Rendon Howe-- all we know, this could be a brother or something coming for revenge.

...

Crimsynn: Unless Howe is a common name... No hurt in finding out. (Clicks "Nathaniel Howe")

(Reads info. Watches little video.)

Crimsynn: My Warden is going to be dead. (Begins to sob) She's going to get shot by Rendon Howe's son.

OK, well, maybe cut the sobbing part, but that was my initial reaction. I didn't even rationalize that we'd *probably* be able to kill him. Then I got into the game and I went, "You've got fire. Howe or not, I like you already. Let's just get you out of that cell there and into my party."

Ditto - I always angle the conversation around so I get that line.

My other favourite is :

"You are a very strange woman."

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact I've had people tell me that in real life...Posted Image

I wonder if that's a deliberate echo of the "You are a very strange human" line that the Warden can say to Alistair during their first meeting at Ostagar.

@MadameRose: That's hilarious. My Dalish was not in a good place mentally at that point, so she was more like, "Howe who? Oh. That guy."

Personally, when I first heard of him, I sort of stuck out my tongue a little, but I could understand why he would be so angry at the wardens after they killed his father and took his lands, so I gave him a shot. Good thing too, as he immediately became a part of my Super Awesome Crew of Super Awesome, along with Sigrun and Anders. Though I sadly must suffer the injustice of having his glorious face replaced with a generic model since I'm just a lowly PS3-owner.

Woe.

Those three are also my dream team, unless I'm hauling Oghren around to get his approval up.

Sigrun: "The darkness of the Deep Roads has seeped into my soul. The world is dead; my heart is black. Alas. Woe. Woe!"

Nate:...Let's stick with perky.

Edit: I'd forgotten how many snarky lines the Warden gets in Awakening.

After the First ends up in the Fade with the Warden and company:

Warden: Looks like someone was considered expendable. *trollface*

*Sigh*

My immediate reaction was "Wait, Howe has a kid?  OMGTEHDRAMAZMUSTWRITEHEADCANONSTORYOFLUUUURVE", I am ashamed to say.  But seriously, he was all "Grr, you killed my father!" and my literary mind was just like "Oh my giddy God's pajamas, this is BEAUTIFUL!".  The conflict that's already there (especially for a Nate/Cousland pairing) is a fantastic set-up for a love-story, or any relationship based story really, as has been demonstrated by a few extremely talented authors (Tasmen, I'm looking at you).  Not making him romancable for the Warden is just...such a wasted opportunity.  I shake my head in saddness for what could have been because it could have been wonderful. :crying:

The First is not being expendible! I love those guys. Mark Meer does a great job with their VO. (He did those I think). Pity we couldn't recruit him to help fight the Mother.

My initial reaction? Ngl, it was hot damn. I immediately thought about female Cousland and a Howe child together and how tragic that was. I love my tragiporn. I had not been excited about Awakening until the Nate announcement and then I couldn't get my hands on the game fast enough. I just knew he was going to be my fav... and he did not disappoint.

The Warden gets to do a lot of snark in Origins as well. I just came across one line in the City Elf origin when you speak to the crippled beggar, which has me in stitches; "You are pathetic. Rent yourself out as a table, or something."
I haven't actually taken it because it's just too mean.

Also, I love the one where the Dalish begins the tale of their people by attempting to teach the children about the birds and the bees before being promptly shut down by Hahren Paivel.

I play a Cousland, so she wasn't too impressed to discover a Howe in her dungeon, but she wasn't going to kill the guy for trying to get back some of his stuff. He's one of my favourite characters, and, well, someone that good a rogue would certianly be useful. My team is Nate, Anders and Sigrun. Occasionally I swap Sigrun out for Justice - gotta love that foreshadowy banter!
