I remember before DA2 came out, people were wondering if it would Anders or Nathaniel that would be returning. I was excited that it was Anders but there was a slight disappointment that it wasn't Nathaniel

the cameo cheered me up though!

I couldn't imagine Nate not being in DA2 given it was taking place in the Free Marches.  I had hoped he'd be a companion and ngl, I was very disappointed when I found out he wasn't.  The cameo did take away a little of the sting though

It did make slightly more sense for Nathaniel to be in the Free Marshes and it did get my hopes up. heres hoping for a full companion appearance in an expansion/sequel!

I know!  I played a little Awakenings the other day (purely for research purposes) and he gave me that line about "All this walking reminds me of that one year in Kirkwall."

There was handwaving and swearing on my part.  "You bloody tease Nate!"

@Mel Your Hawke seems very happy with her situation in life 

Nathaniel was probably one of the only characters in Awakening that i would be tempted to romance and cheat on my LI from origins. Even in DA2...I would have made my Hawke jump him

I really hope his story isn't done. Unlike some players, I loved being a part of the Grey Wardens. I would still like to explore what is going on with them, even of the PC won't be a GW in future content. Who better to introduce the player to the conflict than Nate? (I guess there is is always Stroud, but his mustache frightens me.)

I found it interesting being an observer of Grey Wardens this time.  I'm not sure if its deliberate or just that they aren't in the game much, but I really got more of a sense of the way ordinary people view them.  Very mysterious.  I liked that a lot.  Hopefully we will find out what's been going on and get a chance to 'interrogate' Nate about it.

I first played Awakening with my Queen Cousland.  She was all about Alistair, they were in looooooooooove.  BUt then she gets sent off to Amaranthine, and Nathaniel is there, and he's a HOWE!!  She was soooooo angry at him and hated him.

The more time spent away from Alistair, the lonlier she got.  And she started to kind of like Nathaniel.  They were both sexy people, so sexy things happen.  Oops.  Sorry Alistair!!

You just explained a ton of the reasoning why I started my Nate fic right there.  Totally opportunity lost and I had to pounce on it.  Yep yep.

It would have been a great twist to a romance story for Cousland/Howe in DA Awakenings, Family friends....then betrayal....and revenge... Fan fiction is great for those sort of plots and it is a wasted opportunity for the game.

Really, he is the most sane person, and with less mental issues. I think that meeting the Warden settled his daddy issue. He is not unreasonable, he understood that it was his father's fault...and he even takes in a good way his recruitement in the Wardens.

And I am still curious about the years he spent in the Free Marches...they said it was not a coincidence, but it wasn't addressed in DA2...maybe lack of time, or maybe they just dropped it. Anyhow, more Nate would always be good.

In teh Anders' thread we wondered if they maybe wanted to bring him back in DA3 as a LI...but aside the fact that I FEAR drama will ensue and I'm scared for his life at this point...they thought that a Nate at 40 or so would be too old...what do you think? :happy:

I never got him either on my first playthru (warrior, Cousland saves) but I got him on the next (mage, mage saves). Dunno. Did all the same choices in Awakening ;D

Yeah I just don't see the Warden completely settling his daddy issues.  Those are the kind that always linger in the background.  He might let them rule over his life, but they still exist and color the decisions he makes, etc., even if it is to swing his actions to the extreme opposite of what dear old Dad would have done.

Plus, as it's been said, Rendon wasn't always a bad father, at least according to Nate.

A 40 year old Nate is NOT too old.  Look at Teagan?    I would take a well seasoned and peppered Nathaniel anyday... oh yes.

I would love to see him at that age after he had been a warden for some time.

I just think it is hard to hate your own father, he had to find some pleasant memories about him, no matter what he did later. Nate doesn't have apparently many good memories of his in childhood, if I remember correctly the dialogue about his mather's portrait too. I think the only happy glimpse of his family life was when he talked about his brother getting drunk lol. Then he speaks fondly more of the servants of the keep (the one we find dead in the tunnels or the one that sends us to Delilah)
Still, he has courage to admit his fater was indeed wrong and accepts the reality without going crazy.
The influence of Rendon might be indeed that now Nathaniel wants so badly to clean his family's name. But honestly I think he is a good and capable guy, he would have done good deeds anyway...despite his rogue training xD
