What's up with that? Is it a bug?

I killed The Architect. I hope this doesn't have any major effects on my story.

That pesky white haired scientist with a Delorean has been re-writing history again.

I don't know if it's a bug or retcon. We'll probably find out in 1.02.

Did you bring Nathan with you fight the Mother? Nat never showed up in my game. I know the codex claims everyone who you left at Vigil's Keep died while the ending says they survive. Wondering if the codex takes precidence.

I never did any quests for Cullen (dialog options made it seem like he had some). Is it on one of those quests that he shows up?

yes. go figure. BioWare's flags aren't being read right. Or, like Conrad in ME2, they just don't give a ****

Supposed to be a bug.

If it is, it should never be fixed.

Another bug or failure to read flags: Zev in my import was dead.

That also explains why the Kirkwall marketplace changed from Twin Pine Mall to Lone Pine Mall halfway through...

I wonder when they'll fix it (and the Merrill Act III bug).

When the patch has gone through "EA certification".
Because I completely and totally trust EA and their ability to certify anything.

You guys are making it sound like you have no choice but to kill him. I didn't kill him.
***Spoilers below****
As for him being mentioned in DA2, and you load a saved DA character that did kill him, why are you shocked that he's mentioned? After all, for those that killed Leliana, she still happens to be alive in DA2!

I encountered this too. Its THE most annoying bug in the game. DA2 is crap so I dont care much what happens in the game, but when DA2 ignore important decisions in the actual good dragon age games, then I get angry, whats the point of importing saves?

The next DA game needs to be planned perfectly. Bugs like this are...*cough*...unacceptable.

For those of us who killed him, we were expecting him to remain dead.

Darkspawn eat people and violate women. They are the most dangerous during a Blight because they are being commanded by the Archdemon - i.e. they demonstrate intelligence (like when they attacked Ostagar and misdirected the Redcliffe forces while marching the main horde towards Denerim). Helping the Architect give intelligence to the darkspawn - who so far used that intelligence to launch a sneak attack against Vigil's Keep and tear Amaranthine apart in a civil war - wasn't something I condoned.

Considering that they procreate by violating women and turning them into darkspawn, I had no intention of helping the species maintain any longevity as the Warden-Commander of Amaranthine.

Because the Architect is supposed to be dead?

@LobselVith8: That was very well said! Nice job.

And yeah, it'll be fixed in the patch most likely... there are 100 fixes, so it's not unreasonable to expect they figured this one out. It's annoying as hell and has happened in every game I've played...

So is Leliana.

Sorry, but this is the result of the game doing things like they did with Leliana.  Makes me lose sympathy for any "bugs" that result in dead characters appearing.

Oh I believe they're completely certifiable.

That's annoying, but I'm willing to give BioWare a little leeway in assuming all companions survived DA:O - but not in assuming The Architect lived.

I love how everyone complains about Anders, Leliana, and the Architect being dead, but nobody's discussed Justice...I cut that spirit to pieces before taking on the BroodMother...

If someone killed Leliana on their run, she should have stayed dead, too, and I can imagine that if Act III is any indication, I don't hold much hope for the "explanation" of her resurrection for people who killed her during their storyline in Origins.

To get back to the OP, the Architect being said to be alive was mentioned three months ago, and while the devs had time to completely revamp the game mechanics, this bug still remains unresolved. Three months ago, Luke said:

Luke Barrett wrote...

It should be noted that the DLC packs "Return to Ostagar", "Darkspawn Chronicles", "Leliana's Song", "Golems of Amgaraak" and "Witch Hunt" have no plot flags that are checked inside of Dragon Age 2 right now.

Also, the Architect flag is being read improperly in the conversation with Nathaniel right now - it is being investigated.

The developers were aware there was a problem, but while the devs could make completely overhaul the system they spent a year designing within three months, they haven't fixed this issue despite the fact that they had months to do so.

I'd heard that this was supposed to be fixed as of the latest patch - is that wrong?
