I feel her story is done though (for the most part). What else is there for a GW when she ends the Blight?
Hawke might have more to her story but I would be happy if it was just DLC stuff. Not sure I want to play her for DA3.
Frankly, I am hoping we have to choose either a mage, a Seeker or a templar PC next game to get all enmeshed in the whole Chantry/Circle mire.
And I'd like to learn what happened to the Warden and Hawke, both of whom disappeared (not necessarily together unless Flemeth brought them to the same destiny-junction).
I just hope Protagonist #3 doesn't get 'rescued' by Flemeth in the start of DA3...that's a story hook that's already wearing thin with me.

As to the framed narrative: Drakensang did it better, imho. And it worked -really- well for Monkey Island 2. I rather hope they either improve it or don't use it. But it's Not like it can't work

Unless there is an epic expansion to DA2, I really don't feel as if they could leave Hawke's story as it is. It felt like it was only just beginning at the end of the game. And the final scenes of the game really made it seem like he/she will have continued importance in the coming events of Thedas. So, I'm guessing either a decently-sized expansion or DA3 will feature Hawke.
Personally, I really like Hawke so I hope he/she sticks around. I loved my Warden, but I can't imagine going back to the silent, expressionless protagonist. I might be okay with a new person entirely, but they would need to finish up Hawke's story first.
See, that's one of the reasons why I feel it's time for a new character. Hawke had a whole game to tell the Hawke story and at the end of the game....there really wasn't much to Hawke's story. What happened in Kirkwall will have repurcussions; there's Mage war and the Qunari will apparently return soon now. But Hawke? There wasn't much interesting in Hawke's story.
Not hating on the character, who has an epic life that could fill a game? But I just think it's time for a character who has an interesting story to step up. There's a massive war on, let's see someone who's willing to fight for something.
And I think the most interesting thing to do with Hawke now, is to make Hawke (imported from the game) as a companion for the new hero. Hawke only has two voice actors and can have a few companion quests that harken back to the second game.
It'd be interesting to see the protagonist of one game being a follower of a new protagonist. Besides, Hawke's more of a follower than a leader anyway.
Yeah, I see your point. To me though, that just makes me feel like they sold me half a story - not that Hawke was/is incapabile of having a grand part to play (eventually). I guess I liked him a lot despite his Days Of Our Lives set-up story. I think it's almost a tragic waste of characters (not just Hawke even, I'm talking about Varric, Anders, everyone) to have put them all in such an unfinished story that felt more like a prologue.

I'd like to see a DLC where we play an unvoiced Warden, in which they die or otherwise exit the scene in a suitably epic way.

Would love to play my Warden again, and if they did it believably I'd like that. (it could be done with 2 VO's, one for male one for female). Kind of miss my canon Warden, but seeing him as First Warden or a cameo or an important NPC would be just as awesome I guess.
Hawke.. Never again, the character is so incredibly "meh". Don't like him/her and the story should be finished with a DLC. Hawke would probably be done best as a companion if they insist on having him/her in DA3.
But a New protagonist that isn't restricted by the classes in DA2 and has an Origin Story would be awesome as well (Give me back my dual wielding warrior goddamnit!)

This will most likely be the way it will go, being how Dragon Age 2's ending confirmed both the Warden and Hawke are missing, we need a third hero that will discover the plan behind that and behind Flemeth (Seriously, this WILL be covered eventually! I KNOW IT!).Mike 9987 wrote...
I would rather have a new protagonist with the warden's and Hawkes's stories coming together.
Hawke was a disappointing hero in a disappointing story, so I could actually happily live not having to play him/her in a sequel.
I adored my Warden, but I know her story in done and she needs to stay in court with her Kingly hubby being a good Queen...
...Or she would be, if someone hadn't made her disappear.... FLEMETH, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.

Haha, I wondered about that. In my case, Alistair the Grey Warden was on a happy qunari killing spree, and I kept thinking: *grin* that must mean his woman (my Warden...) is probably somewhere around here too! She must have a field day now that combat has become so much more epicLilyasAvalon wrote...

EDIT: that's not how you spell qunari.

Thing is though..they've already had the Hero of Fereldan, and the Champion of Kirkwall, so would it be too much if there was yet another saviour everyone looks up to? hmm

At this point, I'm fine with all of the choices.
The only thing I NEED is some sense of closure with both The Warden and Hawke.

However I'd like to see Hawke's story progressed. Where is he now etc? (since though I never completed DA:O I assume hawke had a much less "magical" ending) I mean im pretty sure it wasnt "oh well now theres gonna be a war...better get the crap out of dodge." Would be nice to see how everyone slowly splinters off and goes their own way as well as see how kirkwall progresses.

Three "Viewpoint" Characters:
1. New NPC
2. Warden
3. Hawke
New NPC
The majority of gameplayinvolves this human character with two voice actors (male and female). He/she has three origins: Warrior, Rogue and Mage. As such the greatest amount of recorded dialogue involves this character.
Warden
Makes important decisions that affects the overall flow of story and has a branching narrative based on decisions made in DAO. He also has some "high level" encounters. Your quests and decisions would differ based on if you're a Warden Commander replacing an Ultimate Sacrifice Warden, a still living Warden that took the Dark Ritual, a still living Warden that had someone else take the Dark Ritual, etc.
While this character involves more voice actors, his role is smaller meaning he has a smaller script. So that partially offsets the need for extra VA's.
Hawke
Much like Warden, he makes important decisions that affect the overall flow of the story and has high level encounters. Admittedly, having Hawke with "mage supporter" or "templar supporter" being his possible "origins" could offset the need for the new NPC outlined above. Either approach works.
Also note that the viewpoint characters would never be in the same party. Seeing a former viewpoint character as an NPC would be negatively impact immersion.
I realize this is probably too ambitious to actually make it into a game. But I'd like it.

QFT.
Although I won't loose sleep if I have to play as Hawke again but no more Warden/Darkspawn please.

The main reason why I found playing as the Warden more enjoyable than Hawke was the fact that he didn't have a voice.
Giving him one would just completly destroy my character.
