I wouldn't mind one, but I don't know how it could be much different than TOR.

It genuinely does sound like an ME MMO is what they're planning next for the series. On one hand, I love the idea. On the other hand, I am dying to see what happened to Revan and the Exile after they went in search of the Sith Empire, and I am dying to go back the Jade Empire.

Well, it's rumored that Blizzard new mmo called Titan is a shooter of some sort so why not? Blizzard with a fantasy type mmo and a shooter mmo. Bioware with it's own type of fantasy mmo ( Star Wars ) and a shooter mmo with Mass effect. Between the 2, I vastly prefer the Mass effect mmo idea.

If an MMO doesn't involve a subscription (like Guild Wards for an example) then I might consider. You just buy that game and play it whenever you like. New expansions are released (and fairly cheap) which you can buy at the time you want. If there is a monthly fee and/or credit card involved then bye bye ME MMO - I won't be playing/paying you. ;)

I agree AFW, I've never paid for an MMO before and well, I don't intend to. I don't like the idea of it all. if I want a community to geek out with, I'll go to the forums :)

You do realize that the only reason blizzard would even consider making another mmo is because their cashcow is bringing in insane amounts of money

Anyone else trying to bring out 2 mmos without a similar wow-cashcow would be comitting financial suicide

But then again bioware has made some weird decisions lately (DA2 dev team).

I dont like the idea at all

I do like Guild Wars. And I am looking forward to GW2. But, to be blunt, an MMO based on subscription looks like cashing in on the replay value. Which is fine. Those companies need to make a living too. For those with enough money there is no problem. For work horses like me things are different. And maybe I am just blind here, because I did buy nearly all the expansions for GW, but I feel that I don't have to play because I've payed. I can do so whenever I like.

I wouldn't play a ME MMO because the one's I've played before are mindless time sinks with no storyline or really weaks ones. Why should I pay 20 bucks a month to randomly kill stuff that respawns just so I can get another level to mindlessly kill more stuff that respawns?!

Multi player for ME in some fashion would be fine if it were done say in a similar fashion as Splinter Cell games where the main storyline is told through the single player game and then there are optional multi player shooter modes for online play.

I doubt we'd see one due to the Old Republic. If its a success then they wouldn't want to step on its toes. If its a failure then Bioware/Ea would probably be reluctant to give a scifi MMO another shot.

Also there would be the issue of establishing a canon. Would the Rachni still be around? The Council? Thats not even taking into consideration what I'm guessing to be some crazy different ending for ME3.

2 MMO's at the same time?

How about we wait to see if TOR is a colossal failure?

Ideas: Don't do it.
Fears: They will do it.
Hopes: They don't do it.
Dreams: More SP.
Ideals: MMO's have stagnated with the current level of technology. Until the technology improves, all you will ever achieve is a variant on WoW (which is a variant on earlier MMOs).

The Universe may lend itself to an MMO fairly easily; expansive worlds, trillions of beings, multiple races, a dozen classes with pre-made specializations... But, honestly, BW RPGs are often special because of the amount of time SP games can be focused on.

MMO content must, almost by definition, be wholesale. Sure, there are a few good boss encounters... However, the story always suffers, and there's an outer limit at the amount of high quality content that can be created.

Not worth it. SP games are where RPGs are at until a much better MP-party system is implemented with A.I. programming that anticipates multiple characters and responds in a semi-realistic manner. Probably won't happen for 5-10 years.

I wonder how BW wants to integrate the story in the MMO. Is it a series of missions that (much like the single player ME) create the story? Every time you play that will be more or less the same. Or is it more dynamic? I.e. The game world is persistent and has a splitting story line. GW2 (sorry to mention it again) is experimenting with that to improve replay value. I know that BW can write good stories, but what will an MMO add to a single player experience? The article doesn't have enough info to decide yet.

And it's close to impossible. Some investments are so big, they can't fail.

MMO's are great if done right. However, there is the problem. There has only been 2 MMO's that I've been able to play longer than 5 minutes (WoW and Everquest). Don't get me wrong, i would play a Mass Effect MMO in a second if it was done well, but if it was terrible it would just leave such a bad taste in my mouth from such a great single player franchise. I could picture years from now talking about the good ol days of video games, kind of like, "Oh remember mass effect? no not that horrible mmo the single player game."

I am surprised that he said this. BioWare is freaking out about SW:TOR. Very high level people were fired from that project because it is over budget and has gotten behind on schedule so many times. That doesn't mean that SW:TOR won't be awesome. But you would think they would be careful talking about this space until they see how SW:TOR does.

MMOs are expensive. 100 - 200 mil before you see a dime of revenue. That is why everyone is going to social games. Lower cost and much higher return. Heck, I know some of the people that worked on DA:Legends. Given the size of the development team, that game has a chance of being a better return on investment than DA:II.

I'm not a MMO player (I hate them) but it looks like a logical step, the good thing: Bioware is already busy with another MMO (SW:Tor) So maybe we won't see this for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time

Yes and No
For a start I love the idea of exploring the galaxy for a near endless amount of time (This is one of the reasons that I prefer ME1 over ME2) and being able to imerse my self in the ME universe.
On the other hand I don't want it force me to play in a team and allow me to play it solo if I wish (Because I prefer to play on my own rather than be forced to play with a bunch of random 12 year olds shouting "LOL" and "NOOB)

I hate MMO's. I never play MMO's. I don't even touch Multiplayer.

But I see an awesome potential for an MMO in the ME universe. In fact, I might even give it a go.

The thing is BioWare is now large enough, and now funded enough, that there is nothing really stopping them from working on a ME MMO AND working on a single player experience in the ME universe in addition to the DA and SWTOR games.
