Dear God no Mass Effect MMO please! The Old Republic is enough for the ruination of a once great franchise at the expense of a quick dollar.

Refuse to play any MMO from KOTOR or ME universe out of sheer protest. Please focus on what the PLAYERS demand! More great single player games!

MMOs have terrible combat and ME is mostly about unique interaction with AI and combat systems. MMOs are bad in both departments.

If you want to limit the potential of the genre to what has been done time and again, then sure, you can look at it that way.

Or, take a look at what Guild Wars 2 is doing with combat though for instance. Completely different combat system. No targeting and mashing buttons. Combat is movement intensive, and you have to physically hit your oponents with your attacks. They in turn can physically block or dodge.

Is this appropriate for ME? No. ME is a third person shooter and that's what I'd expect from an ME MMO. This is just an example of how you can branch off from the norm.

Too many people are hearing this idea and thinking that we're suggesting  a re-skin of WoW with mass effect textures. I don't think anyone wants that. No one worth listening too anyways.

Think more in terms of being able to play in the Mass Effect universe exactly the way you've been able to, except now with far less linear content. Fewer boundaries.. and the ability to interract with the worlds, the universe, on a much deeper level.

To be able to live on Omega rather than just pop by and listen to dialogue loops that you've heard 10 times already, hoping to unlock some new conversation.

That's what I want anyways.

Okay, been doing some serious thinking about this...

A Mass Effect MMO... Name: Mass Effect Online or Mass Effect Universe

Platform Availibility: PC and both consoles

Setting: Five or ten years after the events of Mass Effect 3

Selectable Races: Human, Turian, Asari (fem only), Salarians, Krogan, Batarian, Quarian.

Character Creation: Exactly how it was in the previous ME games, but with the option to set height and build (Obese Asari anyone?)

Gameplay: How it is in the ME games, twitch based gunplay, no pausing when using the power wheel, be smart and do it when in cover, voice comms mandatory for combat in co-op.

Starting Locations for new characters: On character creation, you choose 3 options; Paragon (Start on the Citadel), Renegade (Start on Omega) Neither or Neither (Start on Illium). Quarians regardless of choice start with the Flotilla and set off on Pilgramage.

Space Combat?: Yes.

Play Style for SC?: A space shooter (IE Wing Commander, X-Wing/TIE Fighter) for small fighter or courier craft, a command based system for small capital ships such as gunboats and frigates. And a much more complex command system for larger captal ships for Destroyers and Carrier ships (With the option of launching AI controlled fighters for the latter, the training of the AI is the player responisbility)

classes: Of course, all that were in the previous ME games.

Factions: C-Sec (Paragon only), Blue Suns, Eclipse, Blood Pack (Renegade only, race restricted to Krogan for Blood Pack), Systems Alliance Navy (Fighter Pilot or Marine, Human only) Justicars (Paragon and Asari only) Spectres (Human, Asari, Turian or Salarian only, Paragon, Renegade or Niether, Level restricted)

Grouping: Four players per group, up to four groups (16 players max) in larger instances.

Guilds: Of course

Weapons and Armour: Like ME1, with upgrades, higher level items have more upgrade slots.

Auctions: Yes

Exploration Vehicles: Yes, anything from small hoverbikes (for single players) to Makos and Hammerheads (for groups, the owner of the vehicles driving, and designating a gunner, the other two as passengers)

Thats all I can think of for now

Some pretty groovy ideas there! I like it. I would be interested in seeing the game employ a rich campaign as well, as in SWTOR.

Having the RPG element put back into the MMO RPG is going to become a standard for future MMO's. It's what people love about SWTOR, and it's what they will love about GW2.

If I choose to play an alliance marine, I want to have a story that goes with that. I don't know if having spectre as a faction makes sense though, given that there's only supposed to be a handful in the galaxy really. But that's more of a lore point and not really for me to say.

I'd also like to seem them employ a combat system like GW2 which avoids holy trinities and thus lets groups avoid having to wait around for tanks and healers to show up.

That shouldn't be too hard in a TPS.

Thanks mate.

Yes I agree, RP and RPG elements should be put back firmly into MMO's, the lack of which turned me away from MMO's altogether.

A spectre element in an ME MMO would make players stick to their main characters instead of being afflicted with 'altitis', in WoW, Death Knights cured my chronic Altitis. It's a pity the reward wasn't as rewarding as I hoped.

Also, each race should have a military force, Krogans get to join one of three clans (great opporrtunity for a PvP session on Tachunka IMHO).

Quarian pilgrimages should last up until level 20, then they get a choice of some amazing questing.

Level cap should be 80

Armour and weapon quality should be graded as such

Lets say each weapon and armour suit have a name

Wach peice come in levels 1 to 10, or I to X.

1 and 2: Low quality starting gear
3 and 4: Common
5 and 6: Uncommon
7 and 8: High Quality
9: Epic
10: Legendary

Armours would come in Light, medium and heavy grades

Weapons classes as follows:
Pistols
Heavy pistols
Assault rifles
Shotguns
SMG's
Sniper rifles
Heavy weapons
Grenades.

The same grading system for Omni Tools, Biotic Amps, weapon upgrades and armour upgrades.

Hope I didn't miss anything out.

Hi there,
just stumbled upon this entry while searching for the latest news on an ME MMO and I want to add my crazy ideas as well.

Setting:  30-50 years after ME3

Races: Asari, Batarian, Geth, Human, Krogan, Salarian, Turian, Quarian,

Story: A separate story for each race. Additionally you can win favour with factions across the galaxy or you can be a threat to them. By winning enough favour a faction will eventually take you in and a faction story will become available. If you manage to get another faction to hunt you some more mission will be available to get them off your back.

classes: None; just define if you want to be biotic, tech, or mix. Unlocking new abilities is done according to your playstyle. The more you shoot with a shotgun, the better you get. Levels for weapon and ability types are the consequence and certain levels are necessary to gain new powers. What you become depends on what powers you use.

Quests & Missions: RP, story and dialogue are most important. To get a bit more fast paced action into the game I would like to get some randomised "dungeons" where you can fight wave after wave in a team.
For gameplay I would like an hybrid of Alien Swarm and "traditional" WoW style gaming. But I think the ME2 style - a bit farther away from the character - would work as well.

Last but not least, character design: There should be an advanced option! I want to be able to give them tattoos and pick the eye colour from a palette and not out of 5 preset colours! I want to give my character a background story which actually infulences the stats and - but I guess now I start dreaming - I'd like to see that physical stats (size, body fat / weight) have an impact on the stats as well!

I set up my very first site to share this ideas. Check it out if you want more details.

This is an area i don't particularly agree on. If there's one thing I can't stand in MMO's it's stat and number inflation. I can't stand WoW now. It literally disgusts me because the stats have been inflated to rediculous proportions.

What is the advantage of having 200,000 hp over 2k? It's absurd. And then having subsequent expansions further inflating these values is equally terrible.

This is where I feel more MMO's need to take a page out of Arena Net's book, and learn how to structure MMO's with less stat inflation, and expansions that don't only provide vertical growth, tacking on new levels for the hell of it.

Love these ideas but I would prefer to have a more freedom based story than what I experienced in TOR, I loved TORs RPG Elements but it seemed too constricting too me I dont know why.

I know what you mean. It often feels like you're forced to go in a certain direction.. But if you step back a bit, you quickly realise that there's almost nothing you HAVE to do in SWTOR.

You don't HAVE to complete your story to progress. You don't have to go to all the planets. You can instance, pvp, space mission your way to 50 and only drop by on random planets as you see fit.

This aspect has left me feeling considerably more free than other mmo's. In fact most other mmo's don't give you optinos at all. You just go to the designated area, complete quests and move on.

This is one of the first mmo's where I have felt truly free to progress as I see fit.

I loved the Crew part of TOR but it felt odd being forced too have a single crew member that you will get from that story no matter what, They should have had Choices and such even more editing options.

I guess that would be nice, but even most single player rpg's don't give you that kind of personal story customization. Expecting that from an mmo is a bit much. Especially when you consider the fact that all of those interactions with companions need to be animated and voice acted.

Well at the very least let you customize the appearance too a larger extent and rename, so you dont have copies everywhere

Well, you can go to vendors to pick up a variety of appearances, and obviously you can dress them in whichever armors you like- which are customizable because of the mods system.

As for names.. again, voice acting. You can't. They get mentioned in dialogue all the time. I can honestly say this is an aspect that I really don't have many complaints over.

However, one thing I think would have been good? Having 1 or 2 companions on some of the characters, be determined by your light or dark side decisions..

Like in ME2 when you have to choose between Morigan and Samara.

Right right, Morinth! I knew I had it wrong. But yes the crew system is a lot of fun. Especially later in the game when you get quests that pull a few of them in at a time. The trooper quests did this nicely late in the game.

I don't think a Mass Effect MMO is necessary with The Old Republic being out. There would be a lot of overlap there in my opinion. Bioware please release Jade Empire 2!!

MMO's take on average 5-6 years to develop. Mass Effect 3 is still in the works. You figure atleast a year for concepts to be drawn up etc.

We're looking at 7-8 years until an ME MMO could be realized. SWTOR will be a thing of the past by then.

It could be brilliant and I could be in love with it. BUT, not if it's another mediocre, tried, tested, true and TIRED mmo and really hope a Mass Effect MMO would dare to be more action oriented and forward thinking in core design concepts.

I would completely avoid this mmorpg if it were TOR with an ME coat of paint.
