Are you sure they were actual men? Metrosexuals don't count as real men, btw.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as they're sporting the right equipment, they're men.

Physically, maybe. Mentally on the other hand....

No normal male initiates conversation about make up and clothes.

1. I really liked some of the new hairstyles and clothes in DA2, but as always it wouldn't hurt to have some more feminine ones :)

2. I liked having a real home. I was always curious to return home to see if someone was visiting and to interact with things around the home. I also really liked that some of the LIs could move in with you.

3. I did enjoy the romance interactions, but as always I wished there were more <3 I never tire of them~

I found femHawke's body way too skinny for my tastes. As noted above, maybe for a mage, but for a warrior or even a rogue...ugh. Her arms looked like they'd snap off if her weapon strikes encountered resistance. The wasp waist with the hips plus the running animation just made me cringe; I had to imagine she was buying stock in Free Marches ibuprofen suppliers. Small mercy that she didn't suffer from 'all boobs C-cup or larger' syndrome. But that's a general indictment of BioWare female models, IMO. I wish they'd provide something like the NWN option for bodies - one slender, one heavy - on top of the facial customization. That'd also go some way towards solving the hyper-muscular mage or rogue maleHawke issue.

I did think more hairstyle options would have been nice, or maybe just a reduction in ones that looked like they were straight out of the 1980s. I was surprised there weren't braid options (that weren't just random braided hair within a loose hairstyle).

I liked the home function, but like others got a little tired of having to go back every time there was new correspondence. It would have been nice to be able to designate 'home' among two or three areas - instead of being limited to just Chez Gamlen or Hawke, you could also pick The Hanged Man or a companion base instead, maybe.

As for romances, well... I've liked them so far, but I did think they felt a little short for the overall time frame. I think what I really missed was being able to have long conversations with companions at 'base camp,' and the romance suffered a little because of that lack. If Anders is living with Hawke, then they should be able to talk, not just have Anders use stock phrases like thanking Hawke for his/her support or b!tching about the plight of the mages. Interactive conversations might have helped make the romance feel more like a long-term relationship.

Sorry, not to cut the ride short but I'm definitely not going to get into a philosophical debate on, "What is MAN?"

1. Didn't feel anything of the sort. In fact, was quite happy with the way they treated Hawkette. Her body looked fine and way more proportionate than, say, Isabela's. I would have liked a bit more variety in hairstyles, but it certainly isn't a requirement for me to enjoy the game.

2. Didn't really. But then again, taking in to mind BioWare was only given one year to develop Dragon Age 2, I honestly can't think of anything they could have done to improve the whole 'home/family' aspect within the time limit.

Had there been more time to develop, I would really have liked tons and tons more interaction between Hawke and Leandra/Surviving Sibling. Especially during Act II.

3.  I'll admit, I too felt disappointed by the limited amount of romantic interaction, but again, I blame that on the time limit set on the development.
And honestly, the amount of interaction we did receive, was amazingly well done. So really no complaints there.

1. I liked Marian's body. She was curvy enough where she needed to be. I would really, really have liked the opportunity to put her in some more revealing mage robes, but I agree that it makes no sense to let warrior or rogue Hawke flash her assets like Isabela inappropriately. I would definitely, most emphatically prefer a wider range of hair styles, though. You get clipping in even the shortest hairstyles, so that's not a valid excuse. The only part of lady Hawke that I did not like was her neck. Only the maxed slider looked even remotely proportional.

2. Home base was OK. I liked having a bit more privacy, and I liked having the ability to interact with various objects around the house. I just wish "the friends" would drop by more often. And I sincerely wish they had more to say when they got there.

3. The romances definitely felt short-changed. It was frustrating to have such attractive, sexy characters available and have the romances be so... stunted. More romance-related dialogue and player-initiated dialogue would have made everything better.

Thanks for all of the replies,
As for some more femamine attire, I was not speaking of armor, I was speaking of "finery" or something of the sort when not in battle.

Body mods would be great. because different type of warrior's have different needs. I thought Fenris was a little small for a 2 H, and let alone Lady Hawke!

As for the men, who needed to give their two cents, when I ask for responses from the ladies only, well, you might have some serious issues if you post in a :"ladies only" Q & A thread. LOL!

1. I was happy with the new hair styles, I thought the 'home' casual clothes looked a bit like the original star trek costumes for some reason... but if anything I would have liked Hawke to run like a real person and maybe a voice actor who could deliver jokes without the smug satisfaction in their voice.

2. I liked having a building, finding areas that gave you insight into other characters

3.  This is one of my bigger gripes with DA2, in DA:O you got to talk to you LI a lot, in 2 you can only talk to them in a scripted occurance. And half the relationship seems to happen off screen because of the time skips... makes it hard to really follow the relationship

I prefer my video game characters to be heavily armed and armored. 'Feminine' isn't really appropriate in a game where demons and worse are trying to eat your face. If I want to feel pretty I'll go do something else; moreover having Hawke sporting a pair of ****** even bigger than the ones she already has would look ridiculous. In short, I don't really give an eff how 'girly' she is as long as she looks like she could reasonably cleave an abomination in twain with a full-force blow, and has full plate armor.

You say that about a Game where Isabella runs around?

1. The rogue armors (except the Champion set) were fugly on Lady Hawke. Didn't mind the mage robes or the warrior armors. The pajama-thing she wore at home was also kinda ugly. I wanted to run around my house in my underpants damnit!

I didn't really mind the hairstyles, but the hair itself looked... kinda funky... like it was sculpted from wax or something.

2. Indifferent to the Hawke Estate. Didn't really visit there unless it was quest-related.

3.  I actually thought they tried to stuff too many years into the story. What I found lacking was the character interaction. A few talks a "year" just didn't cut it for me and it's one of the main reasons I hadn't romanced anyone before now. I'm currently trying out a Fenris romance to see if I feel any connection, but... eh...

Why do women always stereotype
themselves by talking about clothing in game? You could have made a very
nice joke about it, but not being serious. She's a freaking warrior,

As for the looks, I (but I'm
male) think she looked fine. Kind of a gothic look, pale, tall and dark
so fine with me. But then there is always something to complain about,
even when she would have had long hair, blond hair or ig muscular
shoulders.

In short: women.........

Why do men always stereotype themselves by acting like sexist asses? *le sigh*

Like I said, Hawke looked okay, except warrior Hawke who needed a bit more muscle. She just didn't look right with her battle axe, ya know.

To the person who equated talking about clothes as typically women, I'd suggest he go into a motorcycle club and start making fun of their outfits. Secondly, I would like the person who said that REAL men (whatever that is in his mind) don't talk about clothes to bring that argument to them.

I have sat through a whole night with some of them discussing which boots/jackets/pants/ were better, where to go shopping, what to look out for, etc...

No, they are not outlaw bikers, they're everyday people from bank managers to auto mechanics. They simply go apesh!t over motorbikes, leather clothing, helmets and whose beard is the best/thickest/best groomed.

Woo. Can't resist a ladies only quiz.

1. I thought she looked pretty cool actually. And the fidgets were amazing. I went with default female Hawke and felt absolutely no compulsion to change her face or hair. She's perfect, IMO. I'd play her again.

2. Being able to visit NPCs at home, or Hawke's home? I thought both were fine, but Origins camp did feel more exciting somehow.

3. I thought the romances (so far) were the right length, very evocative and well written. (But I am a combat junkie and prefer less, more meaningful dialogue.)

Ladies,
A couple questions that have been on my mind.

1. How many of you felt that Lady Hawke's body and clothes was lacking in comparison to the NPC's in the game? I am a very feminine gal, and I felt ugly! :/
Anyone wish for some better hair styles?
I mean this is a RPG!

2. How many of you enjoyed the "Home" aspect?

3.  How many of you felt that for a time span of 10 years that the romance  interactions in the game were way too few? My Hawke was LONELY!

Thanks for your answers. Just wondering how you all felt, as our dollars count too!! Image IPB

1. My main problem with looks were there is so little variety (look at all the identicalHawke avatars).  I loved the body -- I hated the walk.

2.  Home was irrelevant really.  Very little happened there.  I actually preferred the camp and the fireside chats that happened there.

3. I wish there had been a few more romance dialogs and cutscenes.  Perhaps been given a gift.  Definitely had the option to kiss or maybe hug when walking around.  The three year gaps really were too long as well which added to a feeling of disconnect to the romances.

1. I didn't really mind. I prefer to make my characters tough women who can triumph over gender-based rules, so me having Lady Hawke being a sarcastic, short haired, 2h Swordsman made her lack of femininty in other areas fine. I spent a good deal of time customizing a face that I thought was pretty, and that was good enough for me. As for hair and make up, thats what mods are for ;D

2. I felt home was just too barren. Sure I had my dog, and Bodhan and Sandal, and that elven servent girl. But it was a tiny house with like 3 rooms, and I felt like it was a mail box and more a place to store ****. I much prefered having a camp, and being able to look around and see my whole party and it felt more like I had a family and friends.

3.
I WANTED TO FLIRT WITH PEOPLE. This was so unfair, the severe lack of informal romances (save the what, 4 prostitutes?) was highly dissapointing. And then the lack of scenes and experiences for the romances you got to pick just seemed so flat, and more like once every three year flings. I rather enjoyed being able to stop my party randomly, turn to Alistair and make out with him right there as Morrigan pukes in the bushes. Its sad I get a  couple of flirts and then boom, one night of sex and somehow we're star crossed lovers.

1. I like the way hawke looked, but I'd never say no to more variety... that's always a good thing.

2. The home was a little stale, but I liked Hawkes casual clothes, it was nice to not have her walking around in full armor at home.

3. Definitely too few interactions and although I do like the game overall I absolutely hate that hawke cannot get any dialogue from companions at there homes unless part of a quest. It would make such a difference if there were some non quest related chats to be had at the players leisure. The ability to get a Kiss from the LI would also be a major improvement IMO.
The interactions we do get are excellent though.

Clothes only bothered me for mages--but they never have much variety so I wasn't surprised (hooray for Robe of the Norotious Pirate!). Overall, eh. I'm not playing Dragon Age: Fashionista

Don't care about hair styles. There were plenty, and mods provide more if you're into Dragon Age: Makeover

Yes, this is an RPG. And I can roleplay just fine with a bald, badly-dressed Hawke. :)

Or with a 16 colour sprite that you can't even tell is male or female!

Those were the days...

2. How many of you enjoyed the "Home" aspect?

It was nice to have a home.

Maybe in DA3 we'll have Dragon Age: Homemaker, where you can spend gold on a lyrium-infused jacuzzi.

Oh man, that'd be awesome. Magic bubble baths are all the rage at Hogwarts, you know.

3.  How many of you felt that for a time span of 10 years that the romance  interactions in the game were way too few? My Hawke was LONELY!

Alas, Dragon Age: Dating Sim disappointed many. I admit I missed the option to spontaneously kiss my LI as in DAO, invite him to my tent whenever I wished, or get a brief conversation instead of a one-line bark.

But I was impressed that after a certain [spoiler], my LI visited me in my time of grief and offered comfort. I thought drawing out the romance to align with quests/gametime worked better than a simple approval/single personal quest deal. And hopefully the bug stating that my Hawke ran off with Anders after the game when Anders was [spoiler]ed has been fixed with the latest patch. Because that'd be creepy.

But generally speaking, I was able to survive the constant feeling of loneliness in my poor Hawke's life. She was a brave brave girl.

Thanks for your answers. Just wondering how you all felt, as our dollars count too!! Image IPB

I think the money I spent on Dragon Age 2 was not completely wasted. :)

Thanks for asking!

1 - Her body and clothes did not bother me but now you have mentioned it, she did have a very masculinesque look I suppose. I would definitley agree with the hairstyles - I was not happy from the go with my Tor Hawke's bonce! I think the 'look' of your own playable character is a very important aspect to playing and RPG and maybe..just maybe BioWare should ramp this up for the next game.

2 - You mean returning home to Momma Hawke and the mansion?? I enjoyed it BUT I firstly missed the campfire scenario as in DAO. There you could at least re-equip all squadmates if and when required, without having to select them, change them, de-select, then select the other lot. Bit of a headache there. I liked being able to converse with everone in the camp too..where here you had to go all over the shop to see companions and even then they seemed to have little to say. So, in a nutshell - I did like my mansion, but maybe MORE should have been done there/with it.

3 - Yes yes and yes!! I have had this argument myself with my other half. It is hard to imagine that (for example I romanced Isabela on all playthroughs) what happened, took ten years to happen. Sure, I suppose (certainly in Isabela's case) it makes the romance sweeter by the fact she sort of waited..and it took ages etc.. BUt..but..it just doesn't work. The whole ten year thing as a whole doesn't work. Take DAO - about 40-50 hours to complete and about 1-2 years in actual gameplay? That makes for some nice detailed writing and romances to take place (albeit, not perfect). But then look at DA2 - about 30 hours to complete and about 10 years in actual gamplay? The hours to complete is SHORTER..and the inside years counter is faster, therefore LESS DETAIL (in story and relationship). I think this is one aspect that reall really did not work for BioWare. It is a pity as well cos it could have been an IMMENSE game. But yes..my Hawke was very lonely and had trouble filling the time listening to Isabela's usual quips and repeates..
