You can read the article here (in the Specifications section)

It would be cool to see different ME3 aircrafts in cutscenes. In the game Crysis, they're using both, the attack helicopters have a large amount of ammos while the VTOL gunships have less but faster than its counterpart.

What's weirder is that we have yet to see aerial combat taking place within a planet's atmosphere. Maybe we'll see VTOLs trying to desperately flee with civilians on board while the Reapers tear down buildings and escaping aircrafts with their giant lasers.

You realise that VTOL means 'Vertical Take Off and Landing' right? That's...um...that's how helicopters take off and land :)

I think he meant VSTOL which means Vertical Short Takeoff Or Landing. Give the guy the guy a pass on his statement

Mass effect fields would make lift and thrust created by helicopter rotors completely obsolete. The game is set in the future where mass effect technology has revolutionized vehicular travel. Why don't we give Shepard a muzzleloader while we're at it?!? I don't mind some more variety and I'm totally with you in that regard. The past two games had WAY too many carbon copies of everything, especially vehicles. So every flying car in the galaxy is the same make and model? Give me a break!

That thing from Crysis looks like a total rip off of the A-61 Mantis, by the way.

The main point of the OP is "let's see aerial combat in cutscenes!". I agree with this sentiment.

The vehicles you linked: the first makes no sense in the ME universe, the 2nd is basically already in the ME universe :P

Might see a helicopter in a bombed out museum but thats the only place they should be in me3.
But aerial fights going on overhead while Shepard holds off waves of husks would be cool.

The Alliance still use rotorcrafts because its cheaper and easier to maintain than all the high-techy aircrafts.Of course they dont look like present day helicopters/gyrodynes,more 2180s look similiar to the Mantis gunships (better protection, armored rotors/shields/thrusters/etc.)

Why would there need to be helicopters when you can utilize mass effect fields?

Ever read the Codex?

Assuming every single country on Earth trying to escape Reaper attack can even afford Mass Effect generated equipment.

I wouldn't mind this as long as the design of it fits the atmosphere, I would dislike it, if it looks like Soviet-era tech (even though I wouldn't be suprised if there's still going to be some Soviet weaponry in use by the 2180's, they really build there equipment to last, but just keep it out of ME). :)

Let's say they can't afford Mantis gunships or the like. Would they still maintain attack helicopters? Or would they just accept that they can't compete in that area of weaponry anymore? An unshielded helicopter would be awfully vulnerable -- hell, they're vulnerable now.

I wouldn't mind using a Mantis gunship in ME3. It makes a lot more sense as an exploration vehicle than the Mako and Hammerhead.

As for helicopters; no, they won't be in ME3.

Probably the Russian Federation already collapsed in ME timeline, then the rise of new Russia (United Kingdom of Great Russia?) Posted Image

As for the design,I'm thinking about...

2180s attack helicopter with high-speed NOTAR system (replaces the older tail rotor)

VTOLs in Crysis use jets'.

wheras in ME, its all about Mass Effect fields, making helecopters a technology of the past.
