The gears of Official PlayStation Magazine's rumour machine have been turning and according to the mag a third game in BioWare's fantasy role-playing series Dragon Age is currently in production, complete with an all-new multiplayer mode.

Multiplayer in a story based game is tedious. Baldurs Gate had multiplayer , but these are not the sort of games you can drop in, play a map for a few hours and then drop out.

However multiplayer does not always refer to the story. Given Biowares recent penchant for ripping off the Japanese.

I'm not surprised. I've seen this kind of published rumor before in the first week after DA 2 released. Mike Laidlaw haven't confirmed on that matter tho. He didn't say it's going to be Co-op or MMORPG either.

Call of Duty in armor. Three kills in a row and you get to call in Flemeth for an airstrike...:(

Given the success of the COD series, what publisher/creator wouldn't consider some variation of multiplayer that might be as successful as COD? Don't need much a single player story since it will be primarily a tutorial - thus minimal need for VA and story line. Concentrate on player maps with additional maps and equipment as DLC and variations of 'perks'.

Done right it could become popular as a change of pace to the COD series.

Blah... I personally don't want multiplayer. But if they do it, the only way it can be done right in my opinion is if it's Co-op style, not competitive. You could use your own player character/warden/Hawke and team up with other player's characters, and you would battle against strong monsters and have the ability to access insanely hard battles. Or something like that.

That's why the only way to do it would be co-op battles with other players, one character per player.

No co-op campaign, but co-op battles. Skirmishes.

Edit: This would mean that MP wouldn't need pause, but SP would still have it.

More than likely.

I want to see how Dungeon Siege 3 turns out before I dismiss it completely. I do like drop in multiplayer as a feature.

Depends how many years and resources the have this time to finish game.

If it means even more streamlining because they had to move priorities from Story/Gameplay to multiplayer then ...
that would be end of my adventure in world of Thedas

Lets wait and see.

As much as I love every single BioWare game I have ever played, it's clear BW & EA want to take their franchises into the multiplayer genre.

I seriously cannot justify buying a multiplayer RPG game, as it destroys the whole feeling that YOU are the hero. What with every other game being watered down to add a pointless co-op or MP mode, but give amazing firt day sales, I imagine the next Elder Scrolls will be the best and last single player game we will see...then next will have MP and bomb.

Some games need to look at Take2 for an example. BioShock was an amazing game that was still selling units years after its release. Fans begged them to keep the sequal a single player experience and add to it, but devs and publishers wanted that MP money.

First day sales were great, but just a few days later the online was dying because there were better online shooters out there already. 3 weeks later and almost every store was selling the game for.......my PS3 doesn't have a frkkin pound symbol...

3 weeks later the game is being sold for 12-15 quid, and the shelves are hammered with second hand copies. So in the end they upset the first game fanbase, the multiplayer gamers already had better shooters to play, and now no one is arsed about a third game.

Build a good enough game and you don't need MP to sell millions.

I think these days it's innevitable for a game franchise to at least incorporate some sort of multiplayer feature. All we can do is hope that the developers handle it gracefully.  Games like demons souls make me confident that there are still some good/fresh ideas out there.

Best way to do it is to follow Rock Star's example with how they did Red Dead Redemption multi-player. Had nothing to do with the story.

If the multyplayer is present i hope will be like the one seen in the title neverwinter nights

This allow much things
-Playing in a persistent world and roleplay your character
-Have a great toolset that permit to make evrything
.Have a Dm client that permit to play online and make always great quest story driven
-Have the chance to make persistent world...

If its like a MMO or have a COO only mode im not interested in that... I don't play MMO because they are all only hack&slash online and you are not able to roleplay a character..

Anyways i don't think this is going to happen... Why? it requires a lot of work...and

A system like neverwinter night can give great choice on all tastes...
Action: For people that love only action
Interpretation:For people that love to roleplay
Adventure: For people that like living a campagn

Necessary Features
-Lot of customization: this is not the way bioware seems to take
-Long time of development: Bioware is EA now and looking for east cash (short streamlined sequels)

(Co-Op) Mutliplayer has been in RPGs for a while now, though it worked much better in hack n slash type RPGs such as Diablo or Dungeon Siege compared with more traditional RPGs (anything on the Infinity Engine, really).

It would also be difficult to accommodate the cinematics.

So I'm guessing it will be detached from the main story. If in at all.

This is a rumor, after all.

Persistant Worlds & Custom Content Multiplayer ala NWN would be amazing though.

Having a multiplayer option will kill it. *Ok we are breaking new ground here lads and lasses...let's concentrate on making the MP the core of the game...and never mind too much on the single player part of it.*

NO NO NO NO NO.....No Multiplayer.

hammmm sorry but i dont understeand the point... a multyplayer ala nwn can give a lot of replay value and can bring your character to live an endless adventure... But you prefear have an adventure already told and with an end? I really don't understeand it...Its like people are scared by interarcting with others..

Yay, another single player game with content cut short so that they can tack on a totally unneccecary multiplayer mode. Thats exactly what we need.

Bioware, please keep doing what you're good at, and resist the temptation to go down this path. Please.

Mhhh i don't think dear... Nwn and Nwn2 have the same multiplayer... And you can find a lot of contents for those games... Visual ones..like new staff... new monster new npc... Also Adventure modules or new campaing...A game maded in that way can have a lot of content maded by the game maker or owner...Its a nice deal if you think how is bad the content maded for DA2.. And you have a lot of replay values... Example im still playng in a nwn2 persistent world.. With toons of added content maded from fanbases.. New classes.. New visual stuff... See if a game have multyplayer and a toolset we have less content for the singleplayer game.. This is not true.. In fact you can find even now great campaing to play for nwn games... So the adventure never ends..

Red Dead Redemption wasn't cut short...and had a pretty fun multi-player option. Done that way, I wouldn't mind it.

Apparently most people never bothered to check out NWN's wonderful multiplayer options, something that kept the game alive for years and still does. The option to play DMed campaigns and roleplay in a persistent world is far from "dumbing down" or "taking away", it only increases the value of the game if done right. Dumbing down is what they did in DA2 so far.
However, since the NWN concept of multiplayer won't fill EA's cash box, there's no doubt they'll do something else instead that probably ruins it. I have no high hopes, but a NWN-style multiplayer DA is what many people were already hoping for long before Origins was released.

No please. They is plenty of multiplay games we don't need DA becoming one as well.
