Can I get you a ladder?

Did Bioware simply feel their game was too perfect so they needed to add in something as craptacular as your characters talking smack in order to balance out the game?
Having your character shout "Can I get you a ladder so you can get off my back?" or "All Right! All Right!" every time I click on a chest or try to loot a corpse has got to be the most irritating experience I have had in a game since "Follow Freeman".
I have two questions for the guys at Bioware:
What the Heck were the developers thinking? and were all the testers deaf?
Anyone know how I can replace my character's responses with custom ones?

Ok, seriously! What genius though it would be a good idea to make your character talk smack to you when you're controlling him/her?
Given the choice between the game with and the game without such things, I'd go for the one with the added dose of humour. Interactions between people are not all sunshine-and-lollipops, and the jibes party members give both each other and the player IMO makes the game more fun.
If you don't like it, toolset it out.

Pick a different voice for your character next time.

Another problem with the voices is that they don't sound consistant from one phrase to the next. Like when my violent voice says the "ladder" line, he sounds like Robby Williams, but when he's saying something else, he sounds like he's got a more deeper and gruff voice kinda bellowing voice. It sounds like a different person.

I think the real problem here is that players character is somehow aware of the player "floating somewhere behind his back". its ok with other characters, because it looks like they listen to the main character and receive orders, but it is a bit odd when your main says something like that.
Thank you. My point exactly! I absolutely love that the characters interact with and talk to each other in the background during downtime in battle, I'd never ask for that to be taken out. But holy crud is it ever annoying when your main character starts griping at you when you're trying to ask them to do regular tasks like opening chests and looting bodies.
As for Tool Setting it out, I'd love to if I knew how. I'll probably make a voice pack for the "Violent Voice" to replace the irritating lines this one has once I figure out the tool set. I love that Bioware gave us options for different character voices, but I think categorizing them into "Violent, cocky, Smart, Mystical etc." was a poor choice. I chose the "Violent" voice because it seemed to fit the look of my character the most, not because I wanted my character saying violent things. The option of different voices should be the same as the ability to customize the look of your character. We shouldn't be forced into a specific type of character attitude just because we wanted our character to sound a particular way.

Trigger it 1 time in 30 and it's ok, 1 time in 3 and I want to send my character after a revenant solo.

'Can I get you a ladder, so you can get off Can I get you a ladder so you Can I get you a ladder so you can get off my back?' (and I'd like to respond 'Can I slap you silly to make you shut the hell up?')
I love that voiceset overall, minus the ladder issue, but facing an area with 20 or so items to click on makes me groan because I know I'm going to be subjected to ladderspam. I try to use other party members as much as I can for such things but my character is the rogue of the party. :/

Hopefully someone can make a voice pack that modifies this one to remove the ladder spam. Heck, if they even cut it down to 'get off my back!' I'd be so very very happy.

I also liked that voice set for my tough little dwarf, but I deleted her after I heard the ladder comment a few times.

I picked the Experienced voice so I get stuff like "On it!" and "That shouldn't be too hard!". Those particular responses aren't bad, but I understand where you're coming from. It's like "Are you talkin' to me?!"

Ugh, if you want 'breaking the fouth wall' try playing Sacred 2. The mage actually refers to you as 'player' and 'user' every four seconds. Freaking annoying as hell.

Just goes to show you can't please all of the people all of the time - for me, this is one of the things that instantly endeared the game to me, I absolutely love it!
I particularly LOVE Alistair's sarcastic comments when you control him
But I agree they could have had this as an extra option (e.g. call it "backchat") rather than by default, as I can see it would break some folks' immersion, and in a game that's centred around immersion ...
