I apologise if this has already been posted, but I just came across this article where it says, that according to OPM DA3 is already in development and will have a MP mode.

While it is obvious that BW didn't announce anything, and probably won't since DA2 hasn't been out that long, I was wondering what you'd think if this rumour turned out to be true. Personally, I can't see a MP work for DA...maybe 1on1 with arena or something like that, but that wouldn't be worth the ressources needed for that kind of feature.

Anyways, what do you think?

I think a jump in, jump out mode where you could invite 3 friends to control your other party members might be kind of cool. Whoever was hosting would naturally be the one controlling the story progression.

No, not with the kind of stories they used so far. The Warden and Hawke, both of them made an impact in Thedas...a co-op wouldn't have worked there. The host will always be the one who does the talking - who decides what? I doubt that would work. They'd need to change the way the story is told, imo.

Other than that, I could only see competitive multiplayer, which could work to some extent, but I don't think that's what DA is about.

Oh well, it's still just a rumour. We'll see I guess.

I hope it proves unfounded. Time spent adding multiplayer is time they could have spent adding more single player content. Something that was already suffering somewhat under DA2's tighter development schedule.

I'm not a fan of multiplayer, but I do like the sound of DA3.

But Bioware... don't rush it this time, okay? You can do this.

Multiplayer worked in BG2 with text conversations, but I ahve a really hard time seeing it would work with the current type of conversation system.

I don't know that I want multi-player peanut butter in my single-player chocolate.  I would rather the focus remain on an engaging single player experience.

But I do want more (shirtless Fenris) elf sexy time.  Yes please.

If BioWare is pissing away resources on multiplayer given all the deficiencies and shortcomings with DA2's single player, then they really are clueless. I mean, if you want to do multiplayer, have it a spinoff, not a main DA3 game- hell, half of the problem with DA2 is how it was called DA2 and not treated as more of a spinoff.

I hope this is unfounded and maybe just BS from that interview a while back with Laidlaw where he just mentioned multiplayer in a vague manner. Then again, if they're just streamlining DA until nothing is left, you won't get a more mainstream feature to check off and plop on the back of the box than multiplayer. And as others have mentioned, likely multiplayer likely means the end of pause and play and party control:sick:

I get the feeling that Dragon Age will become the "RoboCop" of videogames. Fans will have extreme praise for the first game, and be completely ignorant of the existence of its sequels.

The IP is at a cross road...

...being EA...they may be taking the path more frequently travelled when an IP is at a crossroad.

If they've opted to continue this direction with DA3 - and aim it with some sort of multiplayer element...then adios Dragon Age..I'll remember the Origins of our good times!

I'll be in the ME forums.

If the rumors are true, then it seems they're trying to mix ****** with our already stale chocolate.

Ugh... I mean, if DA2 had been up to snuff then maybe I'd not mind a multiplayer mode, even if it does sound pretty naff. DA2 was not as polished as it should have been though so they can eff right off with pointless features.

If it's MP like Baldur's Gate, why not. Maybe even control your companions. Decisions could be based on voting, as I think Dungeon Siege will try. But, in general, MP fails when not playing with friends. Drop in/out would be a good idea if it wasn't for people to be jerks on internet. Like the whole drop in battle in Total War. Nice idea untill players who loose rage quite or people who won't attack just to spite you.

Edit: think like the new neverwinter, which to my humble opinion will fail. Or in other words, I don't like the way it's described. Really hate companies who think they can get rich by forcing multiplayer on us. If it's done in a way in which mp will be above sp, then it's bye-bye dragon age. Ofc now I'm glad I didn't like DA2, cause I'll wait a while for customer feedback on DA3 (cause you can't trust reviews).

Sorry, but did you not play Baldurs Gate 2?
It had a popular Multiplayer story mode, where different players, controlled different characters.
The idea is to Journey to the end of the game, and engage as individuals in the party.

If Bioware do it right, a Multiplayer Dragon Age could be awesome.
Imagine being in Kirkwall or Fereldan, and telling your party to 'Go Shopping, and meet back here in 10 minutes'.
I think that sort of thing is really cool, and immersive.

If you could be in a Multiplayer universe, tell your party to split up, go shopping or whatever, then meet back, and each player controls his own toon, it would be great.

Of course, it should also be possible for players to get different conversation options depending on who they are.
If party Member and the Conversation is plot related -  Required to be Party Leader for the conversation to progress.
If the conversation is side quest etc, then any party member can initiate the conversation.

Well, they are adding multiplayer to ME3, so it makes complete sense for it to be added to the Dragon Age....sorry, Dragon Effect franchise.

Thankfully it's only a rumour at present. I will say if multiplayer is added, taking away focus on a top-notch single-player experience to make up for the monstrosity that DA2 is, then Bioware loses me as a customer. Permanently.

theres no way this is true..if da3 is in dev which i very much doubt then it must be extremely early on its dev cycle..meaning secondary things such as Mp dont even exist as notions

Rumours are rumours. There is no multiplayer in ME3 (confirmed by devs) so I very much doubt there will be in DA3.

This rumor is false. I remember when Kotaku and others were both claiming Mass Effect III would also have multi-player which we now know is not the case.

Don't believe everything you hear. Until Bioware themselves confirm otherwise, Dragon Age III will be a single player game.
