If people are jumping to conclusions (mostly that multiplayer would be bad), that implies that there actually will be multiplayer, doesn't it?

"DA3 rumored to have multiplayer" is not a conclusion. "Multiplayer will ruin the game" is.

I don't think it will be. DA2 wasn't perfect, but if any company can pull off a 2011 release for DA3, it's Bioware.

They could perhaps turn out a DA:2 standard game by Christmas 2011... I'll leave that open to interpretation.

I think he was saying that he wants it to come out later than 2012, so they take their time and actually make a sequel that's...you know...good.

No no no no no no.
No.
This has to be some wild rumor somebody invented just to torment me. I read something like this as well, but you know what? I simply refuse to believe it. That's right, I'm pulling a Turian Council Member on this. I hereby dismiss that claim. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to sit in the corner facing the wall with my eyes closes and my fingers in my ears.

What!!? DA3? Already!?
Too soon!
And multiplayer? I have a hard time seeing how that will help make this a better RPG than DA2.
But i would think it was cool to have some sort of feature where our friend can make decicions with us and not just help with combat. Couse if that all that is going to be implemented then i can live without it.

One million, wowzers. Best selling game ever. Not even a shadow of the total sales of Black Ops.

BioWare has TOR coming out, that should be enough multiplayer for all of you...

Just to clear that up, the picture is from the movie Office Space - I thought it was fitting given all the conclusions people were drawing from a rumor... it would make more sense if you knew the reference.

On the topic, this is simply a rumor and not indicative in any way of anything we may be working on now or in the future. Feel free to continue discussion on the topic though, I'm always curious what people think of various gameplay mechanics :)

I doubt MP for any DA game. The pause and play would make it weird- You are attacking a guy, and then BAM- Paused from someone else. Rinse and repeat every few seconds. But in the direction they seem to be dragging the DA franchise, a title without the option to pause wouldn't be too much of a surprise.

ME is much more MP suitable.

They overcame that for Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, both which had pause mechanics (which were pretty essential to gameplay) and multiplayer.

And don't forget that Origins was originally supposed to have multiplayer (they even promised a special version of the campaign designed specifically for co-op requirements, instead of having to compromise one or the other to accommodate both single- and multiplayer), even though they eventually dropped it.

What a suprise! Didn't expect it being pronounced so shorty after the release of DA2.
I have to admit, that I don't have the need for a Multiplayer-Part. For me it's more important that Bio is focusing on the story and the characters again. Perhaps it would be possible for them to go back to the roots of their predecessor, but that's just my point of view.

I know it's just a rumor, but please, please, please no multiplayer. Not every game needs to incorporate MP. It pulls resources from the single player campaign and that's always been BioWare's strength. In this day and age, single player games are dying. We see shorter and shorter campaigns in genres that include MP, but the reason I think many RPG fans play these types of games are for the stories. I don't want to see that level of writing and characterization sacrificed for the sake of a MP mode.

That's not a denial nor a confirmation. lol

But multiplayer does not work for this franchise unless they are going to start something different like how KotOR is to TOR. Like if they make from scratch a MMO based on the Dragon Age universe. But DA3? Nah, don't do it. That would be a mistake unless they just call it Dragon Age Online then good luck getting console versions of that. Microsoft and Sony are not the easiest to work with on cross platform MMO's on their machines.

Since you just want to hear thoughts on it...

Multiplayer for DA3 would be pretty cool. Most people should be fine with it as long as it's optional. If a toolset is also released along with it, I'm sure that would make more than a few people quite happy with the game overall... at least on the PC. Coop would probably sate many console players too.

Why am I not looking forward to it? I get half way through dragon age 2 and all i wanna do is take the disk out, throw it in the microwave, then start playing Dragon Age Origins. Its kinda a sad feeling when i play DA:O now cuz theres no hope for a true sequel. I liked the graphics. I liked the fact that it really was the spiritual successor to Baldur's gate. What made them loose sight in that for the sequal? Perfect example of why change it if it ain't broke. I say scrap everything from DA 2 and start fresh with DA:O as a guide for another game.

Which tears?
DAO sold 2 million units on the Xbox360 ALONE. And Bioware is celebrating about DA2 selling 1 million units (all three platforms combined).
You can ignore that fact and go "Lalala I don't hear you", it's not like I'm going to care about that.

First week sales were stronger than DAO's (based on brand recognition and the developer's rep), but as you pointed out, it's slowed to a trickle since.  Not really sure what Rinpoche is talking about, beyond a terrible attempt at a South Park reference.

Edit: Nevermind, you caught the mistake.  :P

This basically sums everything up for me.
The reason why BioWare is my absolute favourite game developer, is because of the amazing storyline and characters each title has had so far. Of course that doesn't mean a multiplayer function will take that away, but I'd much rather have all the focus remain on plot development.

That's not to say I won't give a BioWare-developed-muliplayer-fuction-game a shot, however. They haven't disappointed me thus far (yes, I can say that with a straight face, thank you), so who knows. Perhaps it'll end up changing all of our opinions. My inner-skeptic just feels threatened.

I hope they don't bother with multiplayer. It's not something they should dump resources in when the game is already having an identity crisis. I understand that it's becoming the trend to include it with games but oftentimes it can draw away from the actual game itself. A game has to be able to stand on it's solo play alone long after the servers are dead and gone. It would be a waste to try to work it to appeal to both kinds of gamers. Those who prefer solo and those who prefer multiplayer.

Did it matter for DA2? I say put the multiplayer in! Bioware can't ruin Dragon Age any more than they already have.

I suspect eventually most expensive AAA budget single player RPGs will have some kind of multi-player or interactive online component that requires players to regularly connect to a server in order to get the full benefit.

If for nothing else than to help combat piracy.
