They're allowed to be greedy.  There's no reason to be in business if you don't make money.  However, I would bet anything there is more money to be had by continuing to release games for the core audience (in DA's case, RPG fans), but making them so good that people outside of that core also enjoy them.  This is not done by making a watered-down game designed to appeal to more people.  DAO appealed to plenty.  And for the people who didn't like it?  Not everyone is going to be a fan of RPGs.  But it makes sense to make RPGs for people who like them, rather than for people who do not.

Double word. And add in a 'to yo mutha!' as well.

As long as multiplayer means co-op it would be fine by me, but some sort of online WoW or CoD type thing would ruin the game for me.

I don't believe this rumor but if it were true they would lose a customer.I refuse to buy a DA game with MP.I do NOT support it at all.

Just to clear that up, the picture is from the movie Office Space - I thought it was fitting given all the conclusions people were drawing from a rumor... it would make more sense if you knew the reference.

On the topic, this is simply a rumor and not indicative in any way of anything we may be working on now or in the future. Feel free to continue discussion on the topic though, I'm always curious what people think of various gameplay mechanics :)

Pfft, come on you were working on DA2 before DA:O even shipped. I think saying that it's not at least being discussed is highly unlikely. ;)

I think DA3 is such at an early stage of development that can fit every sort of rumour, from the idea of making it 3D to including aliens in the storyline.

Regarding multiplayer, it's not a bad thing in itself. The problem would come if they put DA3 as an exclusively multiplayer game. I wouldn't be so shocked if it included a multiplayer option "à la Neverwinter Nights", for example.

P.S.: notice that from "being discussed" to "already in development" there is quite a jump

Whether it's currently in development/planning or not, if it's anything like DA2 I won't be going anywhere near it.

I really don't understand all the fears toward a MP extra. AC:B and RDR both have a very very very nice MP and the SP is first class if you like those kind of games. It seems like you people are not even able to use your head.

Rumor: "DA3 will have multy".
"Community": "OMG, DA3 will be a Multyplayer game, Bioware, what are you doing, you sellout to evilz EA"...

It's like you cannot see the difference between having a MP extra and being a MP game. Are you retarded or what?

A multy extra is a great way to fight piracy, to add longevity, to bring back some kind of PC love and most of all to have fun for the people who like those kind of things. Personally, I don't use MP but since there are many people who like it and since DA2 combat could be played pretty well in MP mode, I don't see the problem. Then, the SP part should stand on his own legs off course. I don't think that anyone will be tricked by an MP extra if the SP part is not good enough.

BioWare are known for having great single player experiences so I think a lot of fans are scared that MP would take away from that since it takes time and costs money to add. At least that's how I feel.

DOing multiplayer will pull away precious resources they need to make the single-player campaign better IMO. Any multiplayer mode would feel tacked on. As the great Yahtzee said, a good game should be able to stand on it's single-player alone and not have to depend on multiplayer. UNless it's intended to be a multiplayer oriented from the start like MAG or WoW.

I have no interest in playing Dragon Age 3 with multiplayer unless it is optional.

I hope they do nothing of the sort, time will tell though, rumours are only a slight step up from "flat out lies" after all.
But I fervently hope they choose to not do any sort of multi-player, not even an option.
It´s a personal preference but I´d rather have all resources pooled in creating an immersive, wonderful single player experience.
I know it might be controversial, as a lot of people loved NWN, I didn`t.
I thought it was tremendous disappointment and felt it was a huge step back from role-playing and a huge leap forward to pure action (hello Diablo), and I worry that including multi-player options will do the same for a potential Dragon Age III.

Step back from role-playing? NWN was/is the best CRPG of all time!

Wow, some pathetic posts around here.

Tons of people saying "I DONT CARE HOW GOOD DA3's SINGLE PLAYER IS IS, IF IT HAS OPTIONAL MULTIPLAYER IM NOT BUYING IT!"

It's like you cannot see the difference between having a MP extra and being a MP game.

Exactly. They can't!

I am glad Bioware considers them the vocal minority and doesn't always take them seriously. 90% of the time people around here respond with some stupid knee-jerk reaction at ANYTHING being changed or added, with absolutely no knowledge as to what they are talking about, how it could be implemented, etc. etc.

It's actually funny!

The only reason this would happen is because Multiplayer sells, even if it doesn't always work. It's kinda like Communism....on paper, it looks damned great. In real life...well...different story
