People call her cute because she's cute. Being a child is not a necessary prerequisite for being cute.

The correct term would be "sweet" she has a very sweet personality.
She's not a child.

I understand. You have some Chiramu-specific definition of 'cute' and have decided to complain because the rest of us English speaking folks dare to not abide by it.

Of course, you've also said that cute can apply to adults, so you're not even bothering to be consistent in your complaint.

How is she "sweet"? Because she is clearly not made of powdered sugar.

How finely are you planning to split this hair?

Err, not that I liked her much in the Dalish origins in the first place but turning the serious and stern Merrill into such a babbling, annoying idiot for the sake of teh cute let me facepalm hard.

Seriously.

She's not a babbling idiot when she speaks to the other Dalish. She's perfectly serious, whether it be Marethari, the craftsman, or any other of her clanmates she's speaking to. There's your Origins-style Merrill.

Merrill is both sweet and cute. I'm a native English-speaker.

I thought I was going to be annoyed by the overhaul of the character, but quite frankly, I like her a lot better in DA2 (not surprising perhaps - in DAO she was just a stock character, and when they wanted her back for the sequel they decided to make her unique). That said, I still think there were obvious changes made - though unlike some of the other things in DA2, it was for the better.

I don't know why everyone keeps calling her "cute", Merril isn't a child.

Merrill has cute boobs and a cute butt. She is cute all over. I'd need a looking glass and a bucket of baby oil to try to find any hidden caches of cuteness that might be lost on her person.

Oh Christ yes Merrill underwent DRASTIC character changes since her 20-minute appearance in DAO. Unacceptable. The TEN lines she had there do not match AT ALL with the complex, clearly-defined personality she had in Origins.

These ****ing forums.

I honestly never understand why people make this argument. Being bad socially doesn't mean someone is an idiot. Merrill had culture shock in a human city as a member of the Dalish and she was somewhat of an introvert. I don't think you can compare being socially inept to a lack of knowledge - she demonstrates her intellect and her proficiency with magic numerous times, as well as re-constructing a two thousand year old elven device with a piece of glass.

It's about damn time I've seen sombody make this argument. Being fairly bad at social interaction myself, I never really saw her as stupid, just bad with social subtlety.

It's like assuming Sten was an idiot because he never spoke, and usually only spoke simply. He just thought he didn't have anything worthwhile to say (Not saying this is Merrill's case, just an example of how you don't need to be witty, clever and yammering to be intelligent).

Merrill #2 is much better than Merrill #1, although that's a nearly universal consensus. Didn't annoy me that she was made better in every way, and the reasoning is pretty much self-explanatory Posted Image
