- James Sanders: it would be silly introduce a new squadmate only for a temporary role.

Wilson, Jenkins?  From Dragon Age there was Mhairi in Awakenings.

Jory and Daveth?

EDIT: And Tamlen?

And Ser Gilmore?

If Garrus is only back for a single mission, It would screw up his character arc for me. The thing that makes him so awesome, that makes so many people love him, is that he's always there for you. He's your "bro4life" as someone in the previous thread put it.

I agree...unless he is killedImage IPB

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Seriously, right now I'd take a bullet for Garrus over anyone else. There are even character I like more than him, but nobody has earned my loyalty like he has.

I don't think they'll kill of james sanders right away, they said he is there to reflect the perspective of a new player coming to the franchise

Thing is, unlike Tali, Legion, Mordin, Grunt, Liara, even the VS, I can't really see Garrus as actually being intimately connected to any potentially critical plot mission - even if we go to Palaven, I don't really know what role Garrus would play there. As such, I think Garrus being perma-squaddie is rather likely.

That's totally why they need to kill him off as you escape earth. It instills an appropriate level of despair in the newbs. B)

I agree. I see Garrus as a Human in a Turian body, for the most part.

Every guy that gets killed off exists to introduce you to the universe.

This could be done really well, if it treads a very delicate line. I could see some really great comedy, if he steps onto the ship and Legion is there, and he completely freaks out. Nobody has freaked out enough about Legion yet, in my opinion.

Or if he comments on the recruitment "Let me get this straight. We're going to pick another guy up. We already have the ex-cop turian and that Krogan with the dinosaur collection. Now we're going to get a Salarian who was in Special Tasks? How did you even meet these people? Where did you find the time?"

(It's dangerous to make too much of a "new viewpoint" character: Nikki and Paulo were supposed to fulfil this role on Lost. Remember what happened to them? Most hated characters ever, bitten by spiders and then buried alive.)

As much as I hated Nikki and Paulo, I really think Lost went a bit too far with their deaths. I mean, they didn't even try to make them likeable.

And I like your scenario, I could get on board with James if it's done like this. It has also made me realise what a bunch of freaks Shepard hangs out with. I mean s/he has TWO genetically-engineered 'perfect' individuals on their squad, and that's not including every other misfit and their mother.

Also your sig scares me.

Kal Reager freaks out about Legion pretty well. Basically as much as the story will allow and still stay on track.

I'm 90% sure a good deal of the fanbase will hate Sanders anyway. Like Kaidan, and Jacob. Mass Effect doesn't have a good track record with leading men.

If Jack's out, Mass 3 will be very disappointing to me. (Not that I'm one of the idiots who "won't buy it" if my favorite character isn't a squad member)

The problem is with an insiduous anti-human prejudice amongst the fanbase!

Semi-serious about that. In any case Sanders hopefully won't have problems external to the character to derail him: Kaidan had the Carth connection that people seemed to enjoy clinging to, and Jacob was sunk by Hale's "I was just interested in talking for a bit." delivery.

Oh, you think THAT is scary?

Here is what your character select screen will look like, if you killed your whole squad in ME2:
Entire Team is Jacob.

Nah, the main problem with Kaiden and Jacob is that they're plain normal guys in a squad of aliens and more interesting humans. They're both likable but they're just...... there.

Ha! I was going to comment that Sanders would be filling the role of Nikki and Paulo from Lost, or someone like Lando from Star Wars (I know he came in during the 2nd movie, but still). I was never clear if Nikki & Paulo were introduced in order for them to be hated and killed. They were just so unlikable. If it works, though, Sanders could have some great moments.

I would probably select Flying Jacob and Big Jacob for most missions.

Yeah, Kaidan was pretty boring, and used  to explain Biotics and a little Alliance history and not much else. Jacob is underrated. What I like about him is how solid and boring he is. He doesn't have any problems to work through and he obeys orders, does the right thing, etc. But I really can't see either character being a favorite.

YMMV. As a normal guy, this is a positive for me. I'm very much in favor of normal guys. Not that I would want tons of them in the game, but they are a great counterpoint to the weird stuff going on the universe. Makes everything else seem more real.
