Over the April 9, 2011 weekend, some of our Dragon Age: Origins content servers experienced an as yet unidentified failure. As a result, users began to experience error messages when attempting to access their downloadable content, indicating that the DLC was unauthorized.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are currently investigating and working to resolve the issue on our end. We will update this thread once we know more.

UPDATE - Tuesday, April 12, 5:40 PM

We're continuing to investigate, both here and at EA. We have some theories about what is occurring but no firm fix at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and request your patience while our engineers continue working towards a solution.

Thank you.

UPDATE - Tues, Apr 12, 22:16 MST

This should now be fixed - please login and retry.

Thanks looking forward to a fix, though you should have informed us sooner so we didn't have to spend all that time trying to get it to work.

It's about time we heard something on here, there are threads all over the internet now talking about this, yet this is the first official response I've seen. Not being able to play my single player game due to a server error is unacceptable. Please fix this issue ASAP and in the future do not design your content with a fail point such as this.

@Rob Bartel
To avoid future complications, just release a small patch and remove the need for authentication. Your game is cracked so anyone who don't want to spend money on it will not do it anyway.

Ah, good riddance! The official post on this matter. Finally we can rest after a long weekend of typing, contacting Customer Service and relaying information to the forums ourselves about this issue. Thanks for the post Rob Bartel.

This post is what some of us have been fighting for since Friday evening. I want to thank @RaenImrahl for having the initiative of keeping the community of players - Especially the new players informed about this since then over at this thread: http://social.biowar...index/6997911/1

Let us hope this issue gets the priority and solution it needs now that it's a Weekday.

Agreed!!!
And hire someone to monitor both the servers and the forums, 2 and half days after the problem started is not going to cut it when you want to run an MMO!

Well, at least I know where to go for the official updates on the problem. Thanks.

However, this part ["an as yet unidentified failure"] is what scares me.

More thanks toward Raen from me, as well. I also support the notion of removing constant authentication online for an offline game, especially one that's no longer the most recent.

This is seriously unacceptable. Being unable to play a SINGLE PLAYER
RPG because of some SERVER issue on their side, for several days?
That's just absurd. They should have had this fixed on Saturday.
They're obviously not aiming for customer retention.

Rob,

Thank you for the update. I hope, once the immediate issue is resolved, Bioware/EA will consider one final patch for Origins. Ultimately, the best way to prevent this again is to make changes on the client side, to insure DLC needs to be authorized once.

It is a shame it's taken an event like this to get an official response in this forum. Setting aside the server error, DLC-related issues are the number one complaint gamers try to assist each other with on these forums. The actual installation and authorization was poorly designed and executed-- a fact also evidenced by the changes in how DLC is handled for DA2.

I still hold out hope that Bioware, and by extension EA, are companies of good character. Once the immediate issue has past, the larger, looming issue should be addressed professionally and with finality.

Thanks for finally getting around to this. We really enjoy your games, so its only natural we'd get angry when we can't enjoy the products you put so much time into.

I'm really glad that finally someone from BioWare has come forward to give us a response about this issue. I reinerate what others say here, esp. RaenImrahl.

As for myself, I just reinstalled the game. I cannot see the list of DLC to download at all within the game. I'm currently wondering why this is now.

I want this man (RaenImrahl) running for some sort of Office that affects me directly. (Like US Presidency) or... Bioware (and/or E.A.)'s cunsumer affairs.
